  1. Fenwick makes nice rods. I have one I use for a jerkbait rod and really like it. Haven't used a Fish Eagle in several years but wasn't a fan of them the couple times I tried them.
  2. I've never had much luck night fishing for smallmouth, I suspect because they are very visual feeders for the most part. They can certainly be caught though. Most of my smallies I've caught at night have been on jigs or single Colorado bladed spinnerbaits.
  3. Welcome!
  4. I don't flip or punch much late fall through mid spring. We just don't have a lot of heavy cover to do it in until the water willows start growing in late spring to early summer.
  5. I do my best to make sure plastics end up in the bottom of the boat after they're worn out for just this reason.
  6. I don't know if I could ever pick a favorite, but these two are up there.
  7. One of my buddies used to say it was because I was running the trolling motor so I was getting first shot at the fish. While this might be partially true, the wind always blows here, so a lot of times I'm fighting the wind with the motor while I'm trying to fish. I offered him the trolling motor one windy day so I could sit in the back and do nothing except concentrate on fishing. I think he understood much better what I was talking about it not being as much an advantage as he believed after that day.
  8. That is a NOT a shad, it's an Asian Silver Carp, the ones the are infamous for their jumping skills.
  9. I always seem to do better in the tough tournaments because I don't give up and keep fishing hard from start to finish.
  10. The picture suggest the wrong size fish Small panfish have soft mouths and it's tough to get the right sized hook to fit in their tiny mouths. Don't worry about hurting them though. They're pretty hardy as long as you get them back in the water fairly quickly.
  11. My buddy wanted some fish to eat, so we did a little crappie hunting. I'd found them last week, and they hadn't moved an inch. 15-18 feet of water with a 1/16oz ball head and panfish assassin.
  12. The fish will still hit them, they have no idea how big they are (or aren't). This was from today with a 6th Sense Cloud 9 Magnum squarebill (4" and 1.5 ounces), literally the first cast.
  13. Excaliber Zell Pop, now the Booyah Boss Pop. I have one with hundreds of fish to it's credit, no eyes left and not much paint, a damaged face from hitting a rock on the cast, but it just keeps on catching.
  14. I've seen several hooks break on the Shrooms heads and have broken hooks on the regular chatterbaits, but the newer Project Z and Custom versions have much better hooks.
  15. They're a good trolling bait, but I have not had much success with them casting for bass. I've fished them in the same areas and times I'd use a shad rap and had no luck, just to go back through with a shad rap and catch several fish.
  16. 3/8oz black Cavitron Or a 1/2oz Croc-O-Gator head knocker, take your pick
  17. I use a 2/0 EWG Eagle Claw Magworm when I'm fishing a weightless trick worm.
  18. Long distance cast into heavy cover is asking for trouble.
  19. Only if someone is endangering others or someone's property. You don't even need a permit to carry a gun in Kansas and I know lots of people carry. I'm not risking getting shot over something minor.
  20. Only to people who give me a reason to be. I'll share most of what I know. Just because somewhere knows where and on what I caught my fish, doesn't mean they're going to be able to go catch them too.
  21. Welcome!
  22. I think that was the joke.
  23. I am, and you're probably right.
