How many fish have you caught this year?
I had a very slow morning this morning and only put 12-15 fish in the boat. The one year that I kept track, it took me until April 30th to hit 1,000. 100 fish days are not uncommon in our lakes (home of the Ned rig afterall), they just aren't very big a majority of the time. My big one from this morning was only 3lb 5oz on a frog, which is a very large fish for this lake. I didn't see the "Any species", part. I maxed out this one before the end of January no doubt thanks to the white bass in the power plant lakes. For a idea of numbers, this trip is on a power plant lake with @gardnerjigman the first week of February. It's edited way down, with over 100 white bass left edited out. To give an idea of how many fish we were catching, I left the camera going for 5 minutes at one point.

Bass Fishing Youtube Videos
Lots of guys on the board have channels of their fishing trips. Those are the type videos I enjoy, real guys fishing just for the sake of going fishing. Most of the big channels are too much advertisements and too much guys trying to make a big production instead of just fishing for my taste.

Smally set up
Great looking fish! Looks like he's really into it. Do yourself a favor and buy the components to put together some Ned rigs, you can thank me later.

Live vs Artificial
I fish live bait, go ahead and judge. Personal favorite is free lining gizzard shad during the winter months. I'm mainly targeting hybrids, but I don't get disappointed when a nice largemouth latches on. I can catch more fish on lures most day because I can cover more water and fish places live bait can't go. Some days, they just aren't eating anything but the real thing though. Is it more sporting? I don't think so. Fish I catch on live bait are usually in an inactive to neutral mood. I've watched them instead a bait for 10 minutes or more in clear, cold water, and all that just to swim off without biting.

New from Minn Kota
I like that part, electric steer motors are always a pain to deploy and stow, the ones I've dealt with anyways. Not sure how they'd do cable steer with spot lock, but I hope someone figures it out. Nobody I know has a Motor Guide. It would have to be instantaneous to be able to steer through timber, especially the old reservoirs that have lots of broken off trees that are hard to see. I'd love to see someone do it though. The spot lock and autopilot type features would be awesome to have, but even the slightest delay in steering is something I personally can't accept.

Inside of rod tip broke
Youtube a video up, go to the Mart of Walls and get a replacement kit and lighter if you don't have one, fix tip for a couple bucks. It's so simple, even I can do it.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Quick trip to Olathe this morning to try to get revenge on the fish that wouldn't eat a flipping bait last time I was out there. Caught a 2.10 first flip just shy of 18". Flipped a frog into a hole in the grass 2 cast later and caught a 18.25" that went 3lb 5oz. Only frog bite I had. Caught some flipping, some on a wobbler, baby brush hog, and a jig. Biggest 5 right around 13 pounds, almost all solid Olathe fish, but I was working for them and there was no real solid pattern. It was still a good time. I don't mind grinding when it's a good fish every time I set the hook.

Drive it through standing timber, then I'll be impressed. Electronic steer just leaves so much to be desired if you're steering around lots of obstacles and working in tight quarters.

Mounting a Lowrance Elite 4 Chirp
Most depthfinders are pretty simple to install. I'm not very mechanical myself and have done several on a several different boats and never had an issue.

Line Size for Whopper Plopper?
The 130, at 1 3/8oz, is a very heavy bait for most spinning rods (it's heavy for a lot of casting rods for that matter). You should still be fine with 20lb braid with the 130 as long as your rod is heavy enough to be able to handle that heavy of a bait.

How to fish this
A hollow body frog or weightless plastic right along the edge, but a frog without a doubt.

Help with fishing the 7 inch line through ospreys
That sounds a little large but I'm not real familiar with the size of the Osprey baits. Seems like I remember them being a fairly thin bait. I would think a #1 would work but if the 1/0 doesn't look awkward then go for it.

Best rod, reel and line for frog fishing.
Height has nothing to do with how long of a rod you're capable of using. A longer rod in heavy cover allows you to keep the fish's head up higher to keep them moving over the vegetation instead of having to drag them straight through it with a shorter rod. Not saying you can't get away with it in most cases, but it's not ideal and it will cost you some fish in the long run.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Picked up a 6' 6" MH/F Avid X from Scheel's today. I saw they had several severely marked down when I was there with the wife and boy on Saturday. Avid X's were marked down to $120 for whatever reason, but they only had 2 left. I wanted it then, but had to wait to go back on a solo mission to avoid the backlash of buying another rod that I didn't really need. For some reason the "But it was on sale", excuse doesn't apply to anything I buy. Glad I got back when I did, because it was the only one left.

minnow size
A small trout will no doubt eat a tiny minnow, provided you can hook and keep it on a hook. It doesn't have to be alive, trout have no problem scavenging dead minnows.

Help with fishing the 7 inch line through ospreys
I fish them basically the same places I'd fish a spinnerbait. Over and around grass are my favorites places to fish them. Along docks, through trees, around laydowns, across points, any likely fish holding area really. You do fish them faster than a Hudd because of their tendency to snag if they contact the bottom or a piece of cover.

Best rod, reel and line for frog fishing.
I prefer a heavy rod for frogging, but a MH will work. I also prefer 50lb braid, it just fishes better on a baitcaster for me. Didn't list the length rod you're using, 7' is the minimum for me and I use a 7' 3" at the moment that I really like.

Bps brand swim baits and rigging.
Assuming you're talking about the Speed Shads. They're stiffer than a Keitech, but still a good bait. I like to use them on a keel weighted swimbait hook because they're more durable and a little cheaper if you find them on sale. The smaller ones are good trailers or on a small jighead also.

Line Size for Whopper Plopper?
I fish mine on my frog rod with 50lb braid. If you're fishing the 90 on a spinning rod, you'll be fine with 10-20 pound braid.

Jig Fishing Fiasco
Just be glad there's no zebra mussels on those snags. It's easier to just cut the jig off and throw it in the water than it is to try to drag through those things. Those days I'm snagging a lot just makes me glad that I know the guy that makes my jigs

2010 Triton Bass Boat - is this a good deal?
That's going to be way under powered for a boat that size. If you fish mostly small lakes it won't be an issue though. Not sure what you mean by a Minn Kota TM on the outboard? He has a TM on the front and back of a bass boat?? You can look up boat values on NADA. If it was me, I'd be disappointed after the first month of using a severely under powered boat. I wouldn't give over 10k for it personally, but honestly I wouldn't have given it a second look after seeing it had a 90 hp. Triton makes all ranges of boats and they're all pretty nice.

What size hook?
Depends on the worm. A thin little worm like a Zoom U tale gets a 2/0. A thicker worm like a 7" power worm or GY gets up to a 4/0.

What gear ratio do I want?
I have 3 H2O Mettles and a Menace that say otherwise. I spent $30 on one of the Mettles and the Menace, they've been great reels for a few years now and I've fished buzzbaits on both of them with no issues. As to your original question, either would do just fine keeping a buzzbait on the surface. I use a 6.2:1 200B Curado that fishes buzzbaits with no problems getting them, or keeping them on the surface.
