  1. That's pretty close, just a little further down the bank to the south. I never catch anything along that part.
  2. Mine was on the huge brushpile on the last cove before the trees start to get thicker. It only weighed 3lb 3oz on my scale though. I guess maybe she ate a couple big shad or gills after I caught her.
  3. Hmm, I just bought a 6' 6" MH/F Avid X and put a 70 HG Scorpion with 30lb braid on it. I have a couple small frogs, I might be giving this a shot.
  4. Sorry for your loss WW2. It really hits close to home, I lost my grandpa a couple months ago after he had a long battle with multiple ailments. I watched my grandmother age considerably from the stress of their day to day life. I still miss him badly, but I know it was what had to happen so both of them could rest again. Sounds like he was a great man.
  5. I don't use fluoro for DSing, but if I was going to, it would be 6lb Tatsu.
  6. If it hadn't been for the slammer fish at the end of the day at Mound, I would have had more fun at Miola this week. There were assorted high jinks throughout the day at Mound.
  7. The fish was still on the back of the bait flopping around when it happened (3lb rainbow trout, which is like trying to grab a wet bar of soap that moves). Funny thing is, my dad's biggest concern in the whole thing while he was at the hospital was that his bait not get damaged in any way (he didn't think to just take it off the split rings, instead he took the whole bait to the hospital).
  8. My dad sent me this picture after catching the first fish he'd ever caught on the first Megabass Vision 110 he'd ever bought.
  9. Big, aggressive, hard pulling fish, sounds awful I'm with ghoti, if I lived by the ocean, I would own a lot less bass gear.
  10. I tie direct to the split ring.
  11. I had one a few years ago that was 24.5"X14" that went 7.51. If anything, I'd think your scale is weighing on the light side.
  12. Contact Spro, I'm sure they'll take care of you if it's a defect like it sounds like.
  13. That is seriously all the weeds available to punch around here. If there's 6" of water under them, I've fishing them. Maybe matted weeds are different, but we have water willows that only grow out to about 3 or 4 feet deep, and the fish love getting in them.
  14. I like the Slider Pro in 1/8oz. Black is the only color I get.
  15. Zman tube and creature bait (going to be a killer swing head bait). Pfluegar President baitcaster looks great, and if it's anything like the spinning reel. Do-it Ned Rig mold with a keeper. Please, please, PLEASE have more than 1 cavity per size so I can stop pouring these things one at a time. Seaguar Finesse fluoro and Rippin mono Hardbaits were pretty disappointing.
  16. Love fishing a jig above all else.
  17. Yes, 50lb works perfect for frogs. To the OP, straight braid, no need for a leader in this situation.
  18. I have a Casitas and like it really well so far. I'm using it for jerkbaits and topwater.
  19. That's a 1oz football jig in the picture. A bass can create enough suction to inhale a prey item from several inches away, they have no problem suctioning in a 1oz jig. If you've never seen Glen Lau's "Bigmouth Forever", it's a real eye opener on how easy it really is for a bass to inhale a bait.
  20. I wouldn't (and don't), use a leader with them. That leader knot is just one more thing to fail and the stretch/shock absorbency you're getting from 2' of mono is so minimal it's not worth it.
  21. Hula Poppers are pure poppers, no walking going on with those things. Never tried the GY baits. I think a lot of people overwork their poppers. A couple light twitches and let them sit for a few seconds, repeat. Don't need to do any massive jerks and big chugs most of the time. Poppers are a target bait to me. Cast them at cover, weed edges, next to docks, fish them a little ways past then reel in and repeat. If you want to cover a large area you'll be better served by a buzzbait or a spook.
  22. Look at the Ethos rods if you're near an Academy Sports. They're great rods and go on sale for $40 and even less pretty often. I have several, they're great for the money.
  23. Do you believe this is due to visibility? Or maybe because 12lb test is way more stiff and doesn't allow the typically small bait on a DS to move naturally like 6lb line does? For weightless presentations (which a DS basically becomes once the weight is on the bottom), I've always felt that lighter line is better because it keeps the bait from making odd/jerky movements.
