For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Both could have been much heavier but I'm not sure if they ever really get very fat in that lake. Only the second time I've ever fished it, so don't know much about it. It did have shad though, so they should get a little fatter later in the year.

Which one would you rather have
Rage gets my vote. The Zoom only works for me as a jig trailer and the Rage does that just as well.

Ned Rig guys - do you find creature profiles like the Nikko Hellgrammite anywhere near as effective as the TRD or do you almost exclusively use stick baits?
The 10,000 Fish Sukoshi Bug is one of my favorite Ned baits.

Hardbaits. i simply suck with them.
I've had a little more success than normal on cranks this year during the warmer months, but that isn't saying much. I go months without taking a cranking rod out of the box, and that's just fine with me.

Casting accuracy?
Man, there's a great gif that I can't use here, basically sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe not so good.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Most all the lakes around here can provide good numbers, it's the bigger fish that have been harder to find lately. I did finally get a couple big ones Sunday though. Almost all my fishing is out of a kayak anymore.

What are you scared of?
Heights, I can't even look up at tall buildings without my legs getting wobbly. Bears, they eat their prey alive and like to hunt around the water. Something that big shouldn't be able to be that fast and quiet either.

Men best friends vs women
It's a different feeling when you're putting your life on the line with another person. You go through so much with those people. I occasionally see people from my past department and the joy it brings getting to see just that they're alive and well is pretty amazing.

Anyone else a metalhead?
Looks like a good list to me. I also enjoy Korn, Godsmack, Disturbed, Stoned Sour, Chevelle, several others.

Catching Long Nose Gar with Live bait
That's a huge longnose. I caught my rod and reel PB on a 4" chartreuse grub. Next to a 6' 8" rod and 30 sized reel for size reference. Tried to weigh her because I think it might have beat the state record, but instead she thanked me by biting the heck out of me and flopping back into the water.

Channel catfish baits
Catch a couple bluegill, cut them into quarter sized chunks, put on a #1 kahle hook, cast into the blue stuff and wait, channel cats will come. I don't use any leaders, swivels, weights, bobbers, nothing. Put it on a spinning reel with 10-20lb braid and give it a little toss out there and leave your bail open if using more than 1 reel. I was cheating in this video, going to where their food is handed to them, but it's the same thing in a regular lake scenario, just a little more waiting usually involved.

Leader
IMO, if I'm fishing braid on a baitcaster, then what I'm doing doesn't require a leader.

Escaping the Fishing Rod Rabbit Hole!
I have an older model of that TCS frog rod, it's an excellent rod that I use mainly for jigs. A newer rod that I've found to be very versatile is the St. Croix Victory 7' 3" H/XF. It doesn't fish like a heavy to me, and it's proven to be excellent for t-rigs, jigs, smaller swimbait, even spinnerbaits in a pinch.

what time is it? Watch Talk.
I look at the time on my phone. I don't like wearing a watch.

The best rule is, there are no rules, mostly opinions.

Flying Lures
I've been hit with baits, rods, and small fish.

Went out Sunday to a residential lake I've only fished 1 time before and didn't have good results. Heard it has big fish though so I wanted to give it another shot. Water was way lower than last time and there was no grass so wasn't sure what to expect. I saw some brushpiles I couldn't see the first time so I started fishing those with a big Hoodaddy. Caught several small to smedium sized ones and was running out of water and about to turn out of the cove but fired a long cast to one in less than 2' of 85* water. It was heavy when I picked up and a big one boiled out of the water when I set on her. It gave a heck of a fight, jumping clear out of the water and diving under my kayak. I've been in a long dry spell for big fish, haven't broke 5lbs since April, but this one jumped right past that into the 6lb club at 22" and 6.01lbs. I fished all around the little lake, never saw another over 2lbs. As I got back by the ramp and the brushpiles, I was for sure fishing them again. Switched to a homemade jig and fished through them with no bites. Got back to the shallow pile, long cast again, again resistance when I lifted, again a big fish when I swung. This fish got hung up bad twice, but both times it worked free. Got really lucky because she was barely hooked. This time it was just over 5 and 21.5". 11lbs or 43.5" in 2 fish out of 1 little laydown! There was one more big pile by the ramp that I caught one out of earlier. I picked it apart with the jig, missed a couple and caught a decent one. Then my jig just disappeared on me. Another good fish went airborne and when it got in the net, I found out why I just lost my jig. A nice 3.5lb, 19.5" to finish out the day. Not too bad having 15lbs or 63" in 3 fish in a few hours on a lake I don't know ?

Live crawdads, to use as bait. Large or small?
I fished live craws a lot as a kid and the little 2-3 inch craws were always the most effective.

Pulled a long overnight trip last night in the kayak. Not something I would have done if they'd have been even remotely close with the wind forecast. Somehow, 1-4 mph winds had small whitecaps rolling across the lake and pounding into the shorelines I was trying to fish after midnight, good times. Glad some fish were biting to keep it from being a total bust. Last one right by the truck before I loaded up and went home.

watermelon seed vs watermelon red flake
watermelon/red flake catches fish for me, plain watermelon/black flake doesn't. It's a mental thing at this point but that makes all the difference in which one I'm going to be using.

Best trolling lure for largemouth bass?
Shad raps were always my go to trolling baits when I had a 2 man and was moving spots. I caught a lot of bass trolling a buzzbait over shallow flats also, especially if there was grass.
