  1. Telescoping lure retriever Seriously, if I can reach it, I bet I have over a 90% recovery rate, and most of the baits I lose are jigs/T rigs or other bottom contact baits that get wedged. They might seem a little expensive at first but after I get a couple LC baits unsnagged or get a few expensive baits out of the trees that others have left (I got 3 Lucky Craft, 1 pre Rapala wart, and 1 Megabass out of the tree in a day last time I was at Table Rock), they pay for themselves.
  2. You won't find any of my baits in trees, a telescoping lure retriever insures that. When I find someone else's bait in the tree, it does a great job getting that bait out too.
  3. First one is a Smithwick Rogue. Next 3 are all Cabela's Fisherman Series Jointed Walleye Runners, look like the smaller size. Last one I'd guess is a custom painted hologram blank or maybe one of the KO baits sold by tackle supply companies like a Jann's Netcraft Springer 100.
  4. It's possible they were moved if you haven't checked that. Go to your profile and go to your content to find if it was moved.
  5. Deep water near where you caught them last in the fall. Channel swing banks, bluff walls, anywhere they can move vertically quickly. Banks that get a lot of the afternoon sun (northern side of the lake), tend to be a degree or two warmer. Jigs, jerkbaits, jigging spoons, and shakyheads are usually good options during the winter.
  6. Did you go back in the river? That was the best bite for me other than for wipers Thursday. The south/east side was not even an option for me Thursday though.
  7. Sounds like they're a blast! I've heard they're extremely difficult to catch on artificials, live bait seems to be the standard when targeting them.
  8. A good bunch of stuff to outfit my kayak.
  9. Yes, those are some of mine I make just for all the muddy lakes around here.
  10. They certainly can be. If a fish gets a prime piece of cover where the hunting is good, they might not be real big on the idea of sharing it. They don't always have set ranges though. The studies I've seen always show that some fish are homebodies, while others are roamers.
  11. I've had Cabela's Guidewear and currently have the BPS 100 MPH suit. If I was going to buy either again, it would be the Guidewear. The 100 MPH suit has been a disappointment to say the least. I've already had to return one suit because my seams were coming undone around the wrist and allowing water to run down my arms (being wet pretty much ends a winter trip). My current suit isn't doing much better with the seams and the velcro strap that is suppose to go around my wrist is pealing off after less than a year. I know I fish a lot, but I don't abuse it either and it's designed to be worn. The suit is warm and good at keeping the water out elsewhere, but for the money I spent, I have not been impressed. My old Guidewear suit was over 10 years old and still going strong, but somewhere between my late teens and mid 20's they seemed to have shrunk noticeably.
  12. Braid in grass, fluoro for everything else. I've been using Seaguar's new fluoro designed just for flipping and have been really impressed so far. Despite it being 25lb test, it handles surprisingly easy and I've been able to horse some nice fish out of some nasty places with it and it barely leaves a mark on the line.
  13. Bladed jigs in dark or bright colors. My personal favorites are black and blue, chartreuse and black or a firetiger type color I call spicy shad.
  14. You can buy a few to get you by for now. Depending on your location, it's almost past the most effective time of year for spinnerbaits so you might be better off going without and just buying a few good ones this winter. Sorry about your loss, I hate thieves!
  15. I fish small squarebills on 10lb Big Game, traps on 15lb. Never have seen a reason to spend the extra money on flouro for cranking.
  16. I fish my own, almost always a 3/8oz. Black and blue seems to be good in colder water, especially for big fish, water clarity doesn't really seem to matter. I've also had good luck with green pumpkin and a color I call Bream that is green pumpkin, brown, and some blue. Here's one from early this year, and yes I was fishing 2.4' of water despite it only being 45 degree water.
  17. I encounter that same problem often and a suspending jerkbait is a great way to combat it.
  18. Rapala BX Balsa waking minnow is similar but designed to be fished on the surface.
  19. That is not what a tiger bass is. Tiger bass are a very carefully bred cross between a specific kind of northern strain largemouth and a pure strain Florida bass. The results is a very aggressive and fast growing largemouth bass. A friend of mine lives on a lake that is heavily stocked with Tiger bass.
  20. I very rarely put a trailer or trailer hook on my spinnerbait unless it's dirty water or I'm fishing for smallmouth.
  21. Zebra mussels are the reason a leader is a must for me.
