  1. Welcome!
  2. Normally they're set near the surface as that's where most of the plankton and smaller organisms will be, which you have to attract first to start the food chain effect.
  3. I don't have weekends off. I'm off Thursday and Friday instead. Makes going fishing a lot easier.
  4. What price range are you looking to stay in?
  5. steady retrieve is one of the retrieves often used, even a few inches below the surface. They're surprisingly resistant to snags, even with an open hook if you use the recommended gear. It's the guys that try to use a bigger hook or heavier head that end up snagged all the time.
  6. It's good all the way until the water gets hard if you know where to look and how to catch them. They just get fatter and hungrier until the water gets about mid 40's.
  7. Believe it or not, Wal Mart is where I find the best EC hooks around here. There's a pro signature series with some serious worm and treble hooks.
  8. Change colors or retrieves. The bass likes your bait, but something about it isn't quite good enough. Also, are you sure they're bass?
  9. I switch to a higher quality hook, upsize if I think I can get away with it.
  10. I think there's a drain hole in the middle, wouldn't even have to pee off of it
  11. Booyah and Terminator are both serial offenders of the same crime in my boat. I've watched so many blades fly off of both when a fish jumps that I don't buy either anymore.
  12. It's a lot of personal preference and using what works for you like everything else. I tried a glass rod and it just did not work for me. I went back to my MH/F and doing just fine. Maybe I'll try one of these glass rods built specfically for bladed jigs though and change my mind.
  13. There's several retrieve techniques for fishing the Ned rig. Personally, I like either the deadstick or swim-shake-glide retrieve. More information from the man himself.
  14. So the blades stop if you slow down your retrieve then?
  15. Something isn't right somewhere. I have that exact same motor and it pushed my 12' johnboat easily on even the slowest speeds.
  16. I bet it's fun in the wind.
  17. I use to have a 3.8:1 Lew's that I used all the time for worms. It's not ideal at all but it can be done. Nowadays I wouldn't want to use anything other than a 7+.
  18. Well since this has veered into a Shimano V Daiwa V Lews V everyone else thread... LOCKDOWN!!!
  19. I've tried Trokar hooks and have not been impressed. Personally use Eagle Claw hooks for about anything anymore. A lot of guys look down on EC hooks but they've revamped almost their entire lineup while keeping their prices very reasonable. I used the Gamakatsu wide gap finesse hooks previously for my wacky rigs and they worked very well.
  20. I would think hookup ratio would be terrible with circle hooks on a crankbait. The way they're designed to hook fish just doesn't seem like it would work well for them. Single hooks will work on a crank. You can also use a long shank, single hook ran through the back split ring but actually attached to the front split ring so it's not hanging down a long ways and isn't swinging around as much.
