  1. Don't know if it will matter but you baked your jigs about 25 minutes longer than I do. If you're only going to paint them black you might want to pick some up from Harbor Freight (1lb of flat black for $6). I use the stuff in white, black, and red (only other color available is yellow). I'd have to check the temp my oven is set on though.
  2. If you have a drop shot rod that is what I use for trout each winter.
  3. Thinking about doing some night ops on Melvern tonight if anyone is interested.
  4. I tried it but didn't like it. It wasn't any better than Red Label or Super in my opinion but it was more expensive.
  5. I usually fish mine on 15 but as long as there isn't too much brush for them to dive into, I'd go with the 12.
  6. Jon's dad caught a sunfish DOUBLE on a spook last week. I caught a bass/sunfish double on a popper at Lenexa several years ago, but I've never seen a sunfish double.
  7. I enjoyed Hunter's Ed when I was a kid. I've been through the class twice. First time when I was 8 and taking it for myself. Second time I went through the class with my "Little" when I was in Big Brother/Big Sisters. It hadn't changed much in almost 20 years. Hopefully the class you take will have a lot of the basic survival and game ID stuff that the classes I took did, very good information to know.
  8. That's too bad. The way it let you drag it in and then shot away and broke your line sounded a lot like a move big pike and muskie seem to pull a lot when hooked on light tackle, almost like they don't even know they're hooked until they see the boat.
  9. I was in jail...
  10. Won't matter if you're over the weight limit and a GW catches you out there.
  11. I've had very good success with Pline C21 and CX Premium and Gamma copoly.
  12. I grew up fishing a 30 acre lake that was overpopulated with 12-14 inch bass. I started keeping every bass I caught under 15" and 5 years later it was a much better ratio of small fish to big fish with fish over 18" becoming pretty common. This was a private lake that didn't have length/creel restrictions so the process was accelerated versus what you'll be able to do on a public body of water though.
  13. Any muskie or pike where you were at? That's kind of what that fight sounds to me like.
  14. I use a 6' 8" M/F. It's a good all around topwater rod for most everything except frogs and buzzbaits.
  15. I'm guessing it split his chin open. In my experience, someone hit in the nose doesn't get knocked out like that. It's pretty surprising how much you can bleed out of your chin and a hard shot to the chin will make almost anyone's lights go out.
  16. I wish Strike King still made the Pork O. That was a great big fish trailer to add to a jig. I still opt for pork trailers when I'm targeting big largemouth. It just seems like the big largemouth just prefer them for some reason.
  17. It rust your hook. I've forgotten them a time or two after bank fishing excursions and it will rust them rather quickly.
  18. I've broke probably a dozen of the DT series baits before I gave up on them. I've had the bills break while cranking them through rocks, had them pull out snapping them through grass, and worse of all I've had them pull out while fighting fish.
  19. You can do it without them, but your life will be so much easier with them. I've done mine on my older trailers a bunch of times but not sure of a good quality video about how to do it.
  20. My favorite is a Ghost Zell Pop (kind of silver/white/copper). I also like translucent colors and black.
  21. Zoom Meathead on a T rig with a 1/16oz bullet weight and #1 EWG.
  22. It does okay but I wouldn't buy one just for that, at least not the older 7' H version. Haven't held the new one, it may be a little better with the extra length.
  23. I do good with black or red either one but it's not really a deciding factor when I tie one on.
