A Nice One.
Bass are their own biggest predator in a vast majority of waters. Not that they wouldn't eat them, but gators target mostly land animals, catching a slippery fish is a lot more work than sneak attacking a critter walking along the bank. Yep, tons of fish bigger than our state record and tons that I'd love to catch! No, because Dottie was foul hooked. That is a list of the biggest bass ever legally caught.

How Did You "know"
You don't until you try honestly. I started in a bass club, but you can jump into it at almost any point you want other than the very top. Bass clubs are a good place to try to get a feel for if it's a good idea for you to try to go further or not with very little risk involved.

Brown Trout Pb Through The Ice
Oddly enough, ran into a guy Monday morning that grew up fishing for browns in the harbors on the Great Lakes. He was telling me about how he used to complain about catching 5 pounders, as we were catching 1 and 2 pound rainbows. I'd love to make the trip up there to fish for some of those monsters!

Thought It Was A Bass
Where's Goose with his album of grass carp with RES hanging out of various parts of their bodies?? I've caught a couple trap trout out of the local lakes that stock trout in the early spring. The ones I've caught on them really hammer them.

Same Bass 9 Months Later? (Pictures!!)
and colder water. It most likely just moved up from deep, winter haunts where it lost most of it's color.

Pond Bass Fishing With Swimbaits
I agree with the suggestion to get a bait with some good thump to it and maybe rattles also. I catch bass in ponds with stained to muddy water on swimbaits all the time. Not the best option a lot of the times but they will catch fish. The R2S S Waver has caught me quite a few pond bass. I think the Shellcracker would be a good option and you might want to look at the new Lucky Craft Real Gill. I haven't gotten to fish mine in anything except extremely cold water but it does have a lot of thump and a good profile that I'm very confident will attract some big fish in a pond. Rats and wake baits should work well also.

Kc Spring Get Together
We're hoping to be there by then but depends if I can find someone to cover the back half of my shift.

Kc Spring Get Together
Jon and I are planning on getting there Friday morning and staying until Sunday afternoon.

Red Treble Hooks
I use them on most every bait, mainly just the front hook anymore. Only time I feel they might really make a difference is on topwater and shallow running baits since red is the first color in the light spectrum to disappear under water, so once it gets very deep it loses it's color and becomes grey.

Red Treble Hooks
It's a confidence thing for me but admittedly it probably makes little if any difference in most occasions.

Kc Spring Get Together
That sounds much better. I'll try to remember to check them out. Do you happen to remember what the prices and sizes of the cabins were like?

Wasn't that the place that said we'd have to charge our batteries in the rooms each night?

A Nice One.
The only fish over 20 pounds from Florida that there is any hard evidence ever existed, was caught in 1923, but even that isn't verified. Take that fish away and the state record is 17 1/4 all the way back in 1986. Florida doesn't have the high protein, high fat foods that can be caught with minimal effort like California does. If there were 20 pound fish out there (or even 18 and 19 pound fish), there would be some getting caught on occasion by all the anglers out there.

Kc Spring Get Together
Okay guys, we need to get a move on before everything is booked that weekend. Curt checked out Spider Creek. It sounds like there's going to be some hassles with going there like some nasty red dirt roads and gated parking areas that may or may not have enough room to park our boats hooked up and are potentially going to be a pain to park the boats in general. We may just be looking at having to unhook the boats in a parking spot and hook back up in the morning, which is a pretty minimal hassle really. Curt suggested Thurman's Lodge where he's stayed before. It looks decent and isn't crazy expensive. Let's hear some opinions on it and get this ball rolling before we have to sleep in our boats at the ramp

Crappies
Now that makes sense. I've filleted my share of fish (even, GASP, bass!) because the landowner of a pond asked me to bring them some fish in exchange for fishing their pond.

What About When The Water Warms Much, Much Faster Than Expected?
It seems that around here, despite the surface temps being in the high 40's/low 50's, the water temps lower in the water column are still much colder. The bass are still responding as the would normally be this time of year unless you find them in very skinny water. I don't know if bass do the same as other species but it seems most fish lay their eggs about the same time of year each year regardless, as the females can't speed up egg production just because the weather is nice.

Slug Go
Back in the day when we walked 15 miles to school, uphill both ways, and we liked it! I'm only 28, but I feel like I'm from a different planet than kids today.

Lightest Line You'd Throw A Jig On?
10lb is what it takes in clear water some times, just make sure not to jaw-jack them on the hookset and you'll be fine.
