Alternative hooks for wacky jiggin?
Jackall has them, but they are expensive. I use them with their flick shake worm.

Private Pond
Nice fish. It looks old. I see old ones get bug eyes and that one looks like that a little.

any suggestions on spinning combo
Have a look at the Pfleugar Supreme. I bought the 8030 and it is awesome. It was the lightest weght, best built spinning reel I found in that price range. I am using for dropshotting. http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/products/products.php?p=9

G-Loomis Spinnerbait Rods
I've got the SBR811, SBR812, SBR813 and SBR864. I started with the 812 and loved it. It is perfect for regular spinnebaits and buzzbaits. I then bought hte 864 and throw Revenge 1-1/4 oz blades with this. It can cast it a mile. Then I got hte 813 for some 3/4 oz blades and at the same time said, "what the heck, might as well get the 811" because I really like the others. I don't use the 811 enough though....It's good for 1/4 oz blades Loomis puts an X-fast tip on these that helps get a better cast. Plus you get a strong but section and good sensitivity. Has anybody heard of a GLX Version coming out? I heard a rumour...

Need help selecting a rod.
If you like the Shimanos, I think those Crucials are a pretty good rod for the money. Check ebay for the Cumara, which is the higher end rod.

Soft plastic storage bags
For a regular ziplock, 4 mil. For a laminated bag, I think they are 2.8 mil.

Tackle boxes: soft vs. hard
I vote for the soft. I really like my falcon.

hooks
I agree with Chaddy and HesterIsGod, and I'll add that i almost always throw EWG (Extra Wide Gap)

Fiberglass Replicas
My dad had a replica made and he told me for now on to keep a fabric tape measure in the boat...it helps with getting the girth. You could also just use fishing string around the fish and them measure on a tape measure.

Swim Bait Questions
I do not agree with that. Gotta agree!!!! That is not always to case. I've stuck fish on a trout bait in a pond where trout don't exist. IMPY03 - Where you saying you wanted info on "swimbaits", or 4" "sissy shad's" : Big difference!!! Just make sure you know what your getting yourself into!!! Agreed. I don't think there are ANY end-all, be-all rules in fishing. I, too, have caught bass on trout swimbaits in waters that have none. For a guy starting out in it though, I would still stand behind the advice

Can't get my self to use crankbaits.........
I might add that you should have the mentality that you are going to lose them. I see people too afraid to lose them and they don't fish the right stuff, the right way. Don't buy Lucky Craft if you are too afraid to lose a $17 lure. The Norman lures are an excellent lure for a low price. The pros throw them all day long. Also, and this is just my opinion, but crankbaits do best from a boat when you cover some shoreline.

jon boat painting
Some food for thought for you.... I had a jon boat back in the day and put roll on bedliner product on the bottom of it. It really helped with scratches and dents. You can get it in different colors, too and match the paint to it.

odd ball colors
Bubblegum has done well for me in clear water. Fluorescent colors in low light conditions or stained water.

Minitournament This Morning (Good Bass and a PB)
Nice fish...beautiful lake! ....that lake looks fishy ;D

planing
Oh yeah, if that does not work...then make sure your weight is balanced on the boat. If the nose is riding high and not coming down, then take some weight out of the back and add to the front.

planing
Biggest mistake I see people make is that they don't trim the motor all the way down and gun it. Also, sometimes it helps when you start from a complete stop.

Caught my First Skrub Fish
Either that or some bait glue. It will make a big difference.

girlfriend outfished me 5 to none
Good for YOU! I wish my wife would outfish me...she is more of a spectator for lmb. She will striper fish wiht me if I hook her up with bait. Keep your gf going man...that is really cool

Fishing can kill you!
Another reason you should always try and wear sunglasses. I've wizzed lures past my head so many times and each time it reminds me why I wear them.

Would you rather...
I'll take the 9 pounder and no camera. It's nice to get the photo and share with friends....but if I didn't have the camera I still have the memory.

Dead Shad???
I don't know if you have gizzard shad out there, but I know they get big. I'd report it to your local g&f...especially if you see any other species floating around.

Gblanks Rods?
Those are nice rods. A buddy of mine traded in 20+ G Loomis Rods and switched to these. I don't know if I'd go that far...but he swears by them.

Melting wheel weights
The Lee pots are pretty much a staple for doing it. Lurecraft has them: http://www.lurecraft.com/catalog.cfm/pouring-equipment

Have you tried these guys out? http://lisa.staton.home.insightbb.com/?vbseorelpath=../
