Set the hook or not?
Two Tap Rule: I always follow the tap one...avoid tap two at all cost ! First tab, the bass bit, the second tap is me tapping you on the shoulder telling you that the bass split out. Bass don't have hands; you feel anything strike....set the hook! If you wait too long the bass will either spit it out or swallow it Proper Form for Setting the Hook: 1. Before setting the hook, you should be in a stable position with your legs about shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent. 2. Your upper body should be relaxed, but ready to spring into hook-setting form at any moment. 3. Get rid of slack line to ensure proper sets. It is critical to reel in slack line and point the rod towards the fish before snapping it back. 4. Elbows ! To get a powerful set, keep the elbows tight to the body to move the rod, line and ultimately the hook. 5. Once the slack is gone and you can feel weight, keep your elbows in and quickly snap the rod up and over your shoulders using your forearms. 6. Timing is everything. A good rule of thumb is to set the hook fast. On the flipside, if fish are in a neutral or negative mood and hitting baits lightly, it's better to wait, let the fish take the bait, and set the hook after you feel the weight of the fish.

Wacky Rigging: Hooks working too well. Advice?
I have been using Owner Weedless Wacky Hooks 2/0 for tournaments which is bigger than the Trokar hooks. I just wish that they would make it 3/0.

The Annual Boom or Bust Lure thread - 2017 edition
BOOM: Super Fluke: Its my trusty lure where they just hammer it like breakfast where I go Texas Rig: Ever since I got the NRX 803C JWR with Shimano Core 50 MG7. My Strikes has gone up 50% as I can feel the bottom with the craws. Bust: Frogs: Where I fish, There is thick lily pads..might be a problem lol Ned Rig: Tried that and I always go back to wacky which they hit it more if I put the weights on the Senko.

Know nothing about cleaning but I gotta say this, love that ol' school reel.

Dobyns savvy sensitivity?
It will just do fine as long you keep it in that range (3/16 to 1/2 oz) For me, I would step up to 704C due to the power (4) as I tend to fish with heavy grass and those are always hungry in the morning. I still have the DC 734C set up for heavy grass while texas rig.

Cabelas brand rods??
I love it when someone get a bargain price Great Job !
-
Dobyns savvy sensitivity?
I would just keep at the Champion/Extreme Level. I was using DC 734C F/H for Texas Rig for a while until I got the Gloomis NRX 803C JWR (6'8 MH/XF)

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Just Received another Curado 70 XG that I placed as Buy it Now on Ebay for $103 plus FREE shipping. That seller had good marks on it until that week where he was getting bad reviews lately. Saying that they never gotten their items or was marked as shipped but not received it. Today, I got a email from the post office that I worked saying that my item arrived. You bet that I dropped everything to run over there to pick it up. I was little baffled at first since the box was from "Cabelas". I opened the box which contains the Shimano Curado 70, Looked at the invoice which was marked at $199. Did I just make a semi-killing score there on ebay and got this from Cabelas ?

New NRX
This is what I end up with: NRX 803S JWR ( 6'8 Med-Hvy, Xfast Action)

New NRX
Exactly why I got the NRX last month. I wanted something for bottom contact with Texas Rig. I thought I could feel the bottom but it was a game changer... I can feel everything, I can feel the bass make a "fart" sound Its a great rod and Im considering getting another one. It was my wife's idea...she saw how happy I was.

Need help on which reel to get
Like everyone says, some of the reels might fit better on your hands than others. I have been picking Shimano every since I got the Curado 70. I have sold all of my reels and replacing them with them since I like the small profile and it just works good for me. The only outcast of my reels is the Daiwa Zillion 100SHA 7.1.1 which is set up with my Dobyns Champion as Lipless setup. Its perfect for me and I can throw miles on this without any backlash... Everyone has their preference, just go out and try ..bring your rod to the store and test it with choices that you like.
