I have a HB 570di. I'm still getting it dialed in as well. There have been several problems reported with the 570di. Mine would lose depth reading in 10ft or less and I would have to shut it off and move to deeper water before turning it back on. It is a known issue and Humminbird will update software it you get one with the older software version, but you have to send it in. They sell a kit to update yourself that cost about $45.00. I bought/built a kit and they sent me the software. It seemed to fix the issue. I have now heard that they are going to stop providing updates to the 570di in the future so my kit maybe worthless soon. I to am a little underwhelmed with the images. I think it is me and the way I have it setup. The 570di can also pick up a lot of clutter in the water so you have to turn down the sensitivity which hurts your images. If I could do it again I would save up more and buy a color Hb 596di. Keep in mind that sonar only "see's" 1/3 the depth up to about width is equal to depth. I mean on the 570di the narrow band only shows a 5 foot area if you are in 15 feet of water and the wide band shows you a 15 foot area in regular fishfinder mode. In Di mode it will show you about 15 feet to either side of the boat in 15 foot water. Either way in shallow water you just about have to go right over the target to see it. P.s the screen on the 570di reflects the sun really bad. I went to Walmart and bought a generic ipad screen protector that helped reduce the glare. My other unit is color and I can see it 10x better in the sun.

OK reservations are made! Be in Jacksonville 3-25-12 through 05-04-12. I just want to catch some fish after class and on weekends. Be a shore walker. I've read some of the other post about Jacksonville fishing. Here is an image of the area I'm looking at for after classes but on the weekends I'll extend my area if there is a good place. I've never been to Jacksonville and am going to miss the big spring push here in KY and also my first spring with my BassCat and I'm really bummed out about that.

My 98 Sabre with a 150 Merc has a 24p Trophy on it. During heat of the summer with a good load (2 guys, full of fuel, good amount of tackle) if I get on it and am not paying attention the motor can turn well over 5800rpm's and still be climbing in rpm's and speed. All vent holes are open I'm not worried about speed, I want good hole shot and protect the engine. 5600 is redline according to the engine spec. All vent holes are open and I think my holeshot is pretty good( never had anything to compare to). Should I go up to a 25-26 pitch or just not go to WOT. Cost is a big issue, so any recommendations on brand? Should I stick with a Trophy or is there something better for less $. In order of importance 1. Protect the motor 2. Holeshot 3. Cost. Money is tight I'll have to sell this one to get another.

Got a small Mom and Pop tourney in 3 weeks on Lake Barkley on the northern end. Anyone willing to share a few tips, what their biting on or spots from about Barkley Lodge north to the dam?

Thanks guys. I did not do so good last weekend but I will give it a try again in a couple of weeks. There was not current at all last weekend and I think it hurt ledge fishing alot. I found a creek bend about 100 feet off shore. From the shore to the old creek channel was 6-8 feet deep, then dropped to 13 feet with a big brush pile, then dropped into the creek channel that was 25 feet. I fished it for 3 hours thinking for sure there were fish there. Caught 1 14". Really thought I had found the spot to be at.

Ok I'm going to go night fishing some starting this weekend. All I hear about is that the "ledges" are the place to be this time of the year on KY and Barkley Lakes. I know "ledges" are the drop offs into the old river channels. My questions are: How do you pick the right spots? How do you fish the area? Texas rig, Carolina, Jig and pig??? Spinner? Parallel to the ledge? From the bottom up or from the top down??? Ok things fell through for my trip, BUT 03-2012 through 05-2012 I will be in Jacksonville with a vehicle. I'll be staying near UNF at Candlewood Suites near Butler Blvd and I-95. I am excited to get down there and fish. Billgator has given some good suggestions. Anyone got any other suggestions for a shore fisherman on the south-east side

Thanks for the replies I tried both clear and max. Clear was better but I think I have a long way to go on getting it right. I mean I was fishing "shallow" 30 feet or less but there was so much junk on the screen that a 10lbs bass could have swam under the boat and I would never have known it. Just hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.

Had 100's in my Jon boat. I think they got in because it was a dry location during a long wet spell. Terro liquid ant bait. It will draw them out if you put it where you see one. Let them feed on it undisturbed and in a few days they will be gone.

Got my Humminbird 570DI installed and went night fishing last night. Depth readings were fine as shallow as 2 feet so no worries there as some others have had. I was fishing Barkley lake (sister lake to KY lake)trying to fish some ledges and flats near the ledges. Started with factory defaults and started tinkering. Using split screen I could see bottom contour pretty good, but the "water" was nothing but clutter (pixels). Turned "clutter" sensitivity up and down and everything else up and down. The only way to clean things up was setting sensitivity to 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. The water was very warm 88 degrees if that matters. Never really saw a fish arch in 2D mode even though I caught a nice bass right under the boat and wondered if I dialed my settings to far back. Just hoping some people here could give me some advise on settings or anything else I did wrong. I've never really set a fishfinder up before.

Guys and Gals, I need to buy me a new, or new to me fish finder for under $300. Give me some real world experience either for or against. Please also give me real pros and cons. I have not bought a fish finder in 15+ years. Will be bow mounted on the Trolling motor. Color screen is not that important to me. Max depth I'll be fishing is about 50 feet. 8 -20ft is the norm. Finally got me a boat that is all mine!!! 1998 BassCat Sabre 18ft 93" wide 150 Merc EFI Fast as all get out, During test drive had it at about 4800rpms, thought I was doing about 50mph. I was WRONG! Looked at digital speedo and it was rising fast as the rpm's were moving up. Speedo was going 63,64,65,66,67. I backed off fast and picked the seat out of my butt from the pucker factor. I still had 1000 more rpm.

Guys I need some quick responses. Looking at buying a 1998 BassCat Sabre with a 150 Merc EFI. Scale of 1 to 10 it is a solid 9. No rips/tears in seats, clear coat is great. I'll list some of the stuff on it Hydro Power lift jack plate Keel Guard 56# motor guide 12/24 trolling motor 3 bank charger 3 Interstate Deep cycle marine batteries (2 yrs old) BassCat trailer with brakes and new tires (Sticker still on the spare) SS 4 blade prop with no nicks Original owner used the boat 2 or 3 times in 10 years total! It was the "Dingy" for a inland yacht in Arkansas. Current owner (2008 to present) used it 6-10 times a year. Estimated total hours on boat is less than 100 (probably closer to 60 hours). Guy wants $8500 but will go for around $8000. I got to know by tomorrow afternoon 4pm. He is holding it for me to take a test ride in it. I'll try to attach photos. I am ****ting myself because money is tight but I really like the boat. I'll be trying to sell my golf clubs ect... to afford it. 18ft 90"?? wide or wider 31 gallon gas tank oil tank Is this a good price?? NADA for boat,trailer, motor, and trolling motor = $9,760 average retail Boat was really dirty at the time of the picture because he showed it to someone else 4 days ago and a storm blew up and it got wet, then a he parked a tractor in the storage building and it blew dust all over it while wet. Look at the reflection of the trailer on the boat hull.

Hey guys, Has anyone ever heard of a Commander Fish/Ski? Found one on net that list it as a 20ft, 200hp I/O (says Ford V8/cobra drive). It is a 1994 year. Who makes it? Where can I find more info? Iboats does not have anything that fits the length and year. Come on guys this boat has peaked my interest..

People are fishing golf courses around KY lake right now. By Boat!!!! Saw a picture of a bass boat flipping towards the pin because the golf course is flooded. Does that count?

Love mine. But both of them started having issues with the anti reverse. Keep any diagrams you may have got. I took both completely apart and and degreased and lightly oiled them. They now work better than ever. So they are good to learn on, both casting and cleaning/repairing.

Keep safe Deb, I live where the Green River meets the Ohio river. The Ohio is about 3 miles wide now and barges can not go under bridges. Just a note the Ky and Barkley lakes are going into another major flood. Possibly highest of all time!!! Imagine what you were fishing and a about 14 feet! I'll try to get some pictures of the flooding.
