Inconsiderate Fisherman
I was fishing a very small bay from a boat. I could literally cast in 3 directions to the shore. In comes a big boat on plane with a couple of, I guess semi-pro fisherman, prefishing for a tournament that was scheduled in the next 2 days. The boat dropped off of plane about 100 yards away and they started to fish the bank in my direction. I was fuming mad, and as my boat rocked from their wake I remembered that my dad had left a cheap Zebco 404 with 25 pound catfishing line in my rod locker. I pulled it out and luckly it had about 1 ounce of lead on it. While they were getting there gear set up I cast it the Zebco to the bank and reeled it up just a little just ahead of their boat. I then kept on fishing and here they came. I had pressed the button on the Zebco so it could free spool and it did in short order. As soon as it started to pay out line I counted to about 5 and cut the line. I continued to fish like nothing was wrong. These guys were shooting me dirty looks like I was in their fishing spot and their boat registration was from 2 states away. About 5 minutes went by and the front boater said that the trolling motor was not working right to the back boater. I watched him pull up his trolling motor and it looked like a robin had built a nest on his prop. I said something to the effect of "Karma's a b***ch ain't it" and continued to fish. They were still cutting in it when I left.

Quantum Escalade Hd
bought one last year. It was crap and Quantum does not list it because it is a "store" brand. Brake was terrible, drag was worse and it made a horrible noise during cast.

I might be able to take Tuesday or Wednesday off to come down. I'll be in need of a seat as my boat is getting the carbs rebuilt. How can I get with someone on Monday to see if any are available? Someone was nice enough to send me a PM but during the recent site upgrade I lost it. Thanks in advance ctf58

Tournament Turns Scary!
Just drove from Branson MO. to Henderson KY. Wind was terrible!!!. Ohio River at Shawneetown had at least 6 foot rollers going upstream. Saw one lake white capping out of it's banks.

Pinnacle Platinum Plus Baitcast Reel
thanks, I used electrical contact cleaner and light weight oil. Works better than ever. Going to do it on my other one. The grease that was on it from the factory was really thick and slowed it down alot!

What happened to the lower priced reels

Pinnacle Platinum Plus Baitcast Reel
Got a Pinnacle Platinum Plus Baitcast Reel from Wally World a couple of years ago and really like it. Took it out last weekend and the when I went to set the hook the reel handle and spool started turning backwards like the anti reverse stopped working. It catches at times and works but is not dependable anymore. I know the reel is inexpensive but I would like to try to fix it. Y'all think there is any hope and where should I start? I had removed the spool and wiped it down and used a drop of reel oil on each end where the spool goes into the bearings.

Kentucky Lake
Update Went to Barkley Lake and fished Friday and Saturday. I now realize fishing in the rain is not so bad. Fishing in snow , sleet and hail as I did on Friday Sucks! Angry Undecided Cry Man it hurt, we were 10 minutes from the Marina going full blast with no face protection. Friday caught only 4 in 4 hours, hooked 4 more but they got off at the boat. The 4 we did boat were short (14"), 2 pound footballs. Saturday boated 10 fishing a mom and pop tournament, but only 1 keeper. Thunderstorm and temps dropped 15 degrees to about 37 degrees about mid-day causing us to seek shelter. Oh the 1 keeper was 4.7 lbs, longer than my golden rule and won big fish and 3 place overall. Cheesy Sweet beavers are now my friend. Talked to several "Pro" anglers that were fishing a BFL tournament on Ky lake. Most said that the big fish were holding up against cover tight. Most of what we caught we pitched to cover and dropped it on their heads to get their attention.

Kentucky Lake
Give this site a try. Got some good advise in "Fishing Reports" http://www.explorekentuckylake.com/weather.htm I'm going down Friday and I'll try to update Sunday. Also, yes it is still very high, but they are drawing it down about 3/4 foot per day. Right know it is 7+ feet above normal and about 3 foot over summer pool. Good luck and have fun. :)

How to fish when it's raining?
Thanks for the suggestions. I've got a spot in mind, first big bay at the mouth of a creek where it connects to the main lake. Channel cut close to it and there is a flat that I'm guessing to be about 8-15 feet deep. I do not mind the rain as long as the wind stays calm.

How to fish when it's raining?
Okay guys and gals. I'm going out fishing Friday and Saturday for a small Mom and Pop tournament. It is also my first outing of the year. Going to be at Barkley Lake/Kentucky Lake. Actually will be fishing North Barkley Lake. What I'm unsure of is it is suppose to start raining Friday night and rain Saturday. I've never fishing in the rain. How should I approach it? Lake Temps should be 53 to 56 Forecast is as follows Friday...Mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of rain showers. Highs in the mid 50s. Friday Night...Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Lows in the upper 40s. Chance of precipitation 50 percent. Saturday...Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 60s. It is not really a front, more of a pulse coming through. Lake levels are dropping about 1/2 foot a day. Please Please Please a little knowledge, anything. All I want is a good day of fishing, not to win the tournament (but it would be nice not to get skunked) 8-) All I have is a 16 foot boat so the big ledges are probably out of my reach. Should I bang the shore and brush, fish some flats, points?? I'm clueless in this situation. Thanks in advance!!!

03/18/2011 Both lakes are 3.5 feet over summer pool and 8. 5 ft over winter pool which is where we are supposed to be at this time in March. On Kentucky Lake the main lake color is slightly stained to stained. On Lake Barkley the main lake color is stained to heavily stained. The surface water temps on Barkley are in the lower 50's and temps on Kentucky Lake have risen to the mid to upper 50's. It is about to get real Good!!! :D

Kentucky Lake trip Friday March, 18th
Keep us updated if you fish anymore this weekend. I'm heading down next Friday. Rumors are that TVA and Corps might drop the lakes as much a 1/2 foot a day starting Monday through the end of the month to get back to normal levels. Hopefully it will get the mud and debris out, but there will be no set pattern that I know of.

Advice on a Tow Vehicle
I have a 2004 f150 4door 5.4 liter 4x4. Towing a boat or my 1968 Ford 2000 tractor with bushhog on a 16 foot trailer, does not change the mpg that much. It sucks either way. Hwy W/O towing is around 15mpg, With trailer I get 12mpg. I have straight 3" pipes from the headers back, no cats. Bought it used last year for towing. I can not tell a trailer is back there as far as power goes. The trailer and tractor does require trailer brakes otherwise it pushes pretty hard even though I have oversized tires for grip. Like others have said stopping is as important as going. 4x4 is nice to get up a wet ramp. I had a 1995 Honda Passport 4x4 v6 that pulled the boat well. Put it in 4x4 low and it would crawl up any ramp. The downside was that it only got 13 mph all day long

Hey guys! Tell me how you view women fishing with you?
Took my wife and daughter (8yrs) last year. Had a blast. My wife caught her 1st bass, about 12 inch. You would have thought it was moby dick. She says she wants to go again, BUT she does not like bass boats. She says she does not understand why we do not get rid of my bass boat and buy a bigger boat with more seating and has higher sides (Like a Bayliner). She thinks it would be safer and be the same, just more comfy. I try to explain that a bass boat has a shallow draft needed for getting shallow and a trolling motor is nice to have as well. She just does not get it. I take my 8yr old daughter pond fishing all the time. I hope she enjoys it enough to continue. She would be one of my favorite fishing buddys. Very good talks. Women are always welcome as long as they want to fish. If any HOT women want to go boating I have a boat my wife will not ride in.

I'm still trying to arrange a few days off. I would need to be a back seater if it is not to late. I will be a last minute decision because of my profession. How could I contact someone once it gets started if I could manage a day off to come meet some of you? :-?

Dream boat?
Floats, maintenance free and 20mpg.

Any one?
I'd like to know the mortality rate for these fish from the big tournaments after setting in livewells all day, then being transported 20 miles over land to a weigh-in, then sitting for hours waiting to be weighed in, then being handled repeatedly and taken out of the water for photos. Then after the weigh-in where are the fish taken? Back to where they were caught or put in a big container and dumped at a convenient location after many stressful hours. I like fish, I catch fish and I'll eat fish I like to catch from time to time. I'll also practice catch and release when I don't want to eat the fish. And fishsticks are not the same.

How close is to close?
x2 I was casting to the bank from about 25 yards out so I would not spook the fish in flooded grass about 2 feet of water all the way from the shore to me. Some SOB came flying in and came off plane about 100 feet away and following my direction of travel. He then proceeded to pass between me and the bank, pitching to the shore. > He would never look at me, until I hit his big shiny 4-stroke with a rattle trap. He spun around like he was ticked off to high heaven. I politely apologized saying that I did not realized I could cast more than 30 feet with this 7 ft rod and it was my new personal best for distance. He did not seem to get the hint so I grabbed a tex rigged worm and cast it right up to the shore about 10 feet in front of his boat and just let it sit there. He saw it and realized that his trolling motor would eat my line and yelled that it could tangle in his trolling motor prop. I agreed and just left it there and twitched the rod tip like a shakey head. He then left.
