Where to put a fish finder on Jon boat
I have a 12 jon. I mounted the unit to a piece of wood and can move it where I want. I usually use a very small c clamp and clamp it to the front bench. as for the transducer I have it screwed to the end of a 1x3 and clamp it to the side of the boat right beside me. It is very redneck but it works and I let a friend borrow it from time to time. I use it to fish strip pit lakes. It all fits in a duffle bag and I keep to cables tie wrapped with the length I need loose and the coils in the bag. Very redneck!

Shimano Sienna SN2500FD or Abu Garcia Cardinal® 404i
Thanks for the replies. They do have a Abu Cardinal 400UI-C for the same price but it sounds to small. The 400UI only holds 100/4 and has a max drag of 6lbs. I was planning on using 8lbs mono or 15lbs braid if the braid spooled good on it. I will be fishing ponds and KY lake. I figured that with the larger Abu 404i I could put some backer on the spool so that the loops off the spool would not be to tight. Am I thinking right?

Shimano Sienna SN2500FD or Abu Garcia Cardinal® 404i
Which one, Shimano is $30 With great reviews and the Abu is on sale for $30 marked down from $50. Both have spare spools, the Shimano is 4 bearing, the Abu is 7+1 bearing. Both weigh about 9oz. The Abu sounds kind of big 210/10 compared to the Shiomano 140/8. Be for bass fishing on a 7foot Med. action rod. I got a $20 gift card to spend at Cabelas. This will be my first spinning reel, been a baitcaster guy up to now. What you guys think???

STATE VS STATE ---Season 3 2011 ***CLOSING DATE REVISED***
I'm in just in case. Smallie is going to be a hard one. 11 lbs., 15 ozs world record smallie is from KY. I might have to go find a Coosa Bass. Our state record is 0.53 pounds. ;D

Battery deals?
Walmart MAXX-65N (S). 850Cca 1000 amp 3 year free replacement about $100.00. Same battery as the Autozone Duralast gold 65DLG $120.00. It spins my 1968 Ford tractor very strong and the old charging system on the tractor does not throw much juice back to it. I can start my tractor 10 -20 times in a day, including the first start of the season, which usually takes 10-15 seconds of cranking with spraying either. I have one in my boat as well and it never has even acted like it was slowing down. Plus Walmart does not ask many questions if you need to return it.

Fishing around Jacksonville FL
Thanks for the information. It is a big help. getting to the corp. ponds will probably be easier for me anyway. and I hadn't really thought of it. I will be without a car more than likely and will either have to walk or get a cab. I'll check google Earth for the area I'm staying. Thanks again

Navplanner2 & Kentucky Lake
We will not know until it is closer to time to go there. You are right that generally it will be low current, unless we get a big rain near Nashville TN. TVA likes to bring the water up slowly. Think about a 5 foot rise in the course of a month. I have seen the water at summer pool on April 1st, just to see TVA drain it back down 4 feet in a week so they can bring it up on their schedule. Kentucky and Barkley lakes are first and foremost for power generation, second Army Corps can take control of the dam gates for flood control. Lastly comes the fishermen. We have no say as to the levels. I would love to see the lakes brought up about early March just one year to see what effect it would have on the fishing. I think the spawn would be a lot better.

Battery deals?
Johnson Controls make the bulk of the batteries sold in the USA. If you look at Walmart, Sears Diehard and Autozone's brand they are all the exact same battery Go get a walmart battery with a 3 years free replacement warranty and save some money while your at it. Had my Wally world (Everstart MAXX) battery for 6 years and it is still going strong and was about $20 cheaper than Autozone.

Lower Ohio River area
Thanks Grey Wolf, The main river here is over 1/2 mile wide and I've never seen any vegetation in it. It is like the Mississippi river. I might try some of the sloughs after the water comes up and goes back down to see if anything gets trapped. I own a piece of property that has a 7 acre cypress slough. I will see large gar and drum but I have only caught 2 catfish that weighed about 2 pounds each. I think it would be a perfect fishing hole but it is to shallow and gets very hot during the summer. I do not think much survives the summer months. I also have never seen and dead fish other than gar in it.?? I was more wondering "If" largemouth/smallmouth were even in this part of the Ohio.

Lower Ohio River area
I live in the lower Ohio river valley near Evansville IN. No one bass fishes the Ohio or Green River around here. Anyone know if it is worth the effort? Are they to muddy?? Like I said no one around here fishes them for bass, but no one can say why either.. What about the sloughs after backwater from the river gets in?? Crappie move in if the timing is right.

Help Me Pprice My Boat
A friend of mine has one, sounds about like yours plus a few other things. His had a 2006 Johnson 150 with maybe 50-75 hours on it. he is asking $6,000 firm. He has had it for sale for about a year by word of mouth, no advertising. No takers yet...

Weirdest Thing You've Reeled In
Helped pull 3 bodies from the Ohio River. That was what we were fishing for though. :-/ Had to make a run to Wally world between #2 and #3 to get better treble hooks. Last year I caught a Pabst Blue ribbon beer can that was a pull tab top on a rattle trap in Barkley Lake.

Navplanner2 & Kentucky Lake
Does the Navplanners indicate summer or winter pool? Can you manually adjust for it? Ky and Barkley draw down about 5 feet for winter pool. Should be near summer pool for the event and rising. Here is another site explorekentuckylake.com/weather.htm Might have been posted before
