10/29/06--Bluebird Sky Bass
Thanks everyone for the 'looks' and the kind words . Ken: It must be the camera's angle or the fact that the 1 lber pic shows the entire fish. I weighed and measured each of them. Craw: I'd never caught a Bass on a Pointer before. I have a few of them but never fished them much but they wanted a 'bait fish' lure that day, even the little Bluegill . NJ: Yes, they are skinny and look underfed. My boss just recently started adding bait fish and placed two bait fish feeders on that pond so they will hopefully fatten up over time. He wants it to be a "big Bass" pond and so do I. Dan

10/29/06--Bluebird Sky Bass
Went to my boss's ponds today. Started fishing about 11 AM with Bluebird skies, 70 degrees, clear water and a little wind made it tough. Caught a couple of dinks from the bank and then put the boat in. I had a Pointer tied onto a 'new'(both rod and reel bought used) rig. Hooked one in 10' of water and had her to the boat when 4 or 5, 3-5 lb Bass were all over her, trying to grab the bait out of her mouth. One Bass smashed her, trying to eat the Pointer. If I'd have had a partner, he/she could have dropped a bait and hooked a nice Bass. The one I caught was a 3 lber. Caught a 2 lber on the Pointer and a few dinks in the same pond. Then I went to the bank-only, smaller pond and caught 8 or 9, 1 lbers or less plus a 1/15, all on the SS plus a Bluegill on the Pointer. 3 lbs, 6ozs Same 2 lbs, 2ozs Bluegill 1 lb, 15 ozs Dan

matt lure help
At first, I added a weedless treble hook but after the first Bass or two, I removed it and havn't lost any Bass because of that. The bigger(what we're looking for right?) inhale the entire bait and the stock hook usually sticks them in the roof of their mouth. Get a tube or two of Megastrike attractant as soon as you can and slather that gel onto your Matt's bait(s), not for the attractant theory but to make the bait greasy/slippery to enhance your hookset. assembling my dream rig... baitmonkey got me good!
Wonderful rig young man!!! You will not regret the choice of top-of-the-line tackle. And, your DW can do as mine will and sell it all off at the garage sale right after I'm in the ground ;D. Remember, women live longer than we do . Dan

what type Lure Retriever?
I use this one. It works well. Dan

Huddlebugs anyone?
The weights on the pre-rigged ones fall off too easily. The exposed hook snags on wood too easily where I fish. They are very light-in-weight so pitching is out. They do look great but...................

Anvantage Low Profile or Large BC
I prefer and use low profile reels 95% of the time. The only time I'll use my Calcutta(round) 300 reel is when I'm throwing a 5 oz Huddleston Trout lure. It has larger gears and drag washers for those double-digit Bass I have yet to hook . Dan

Huddlebugs anyone?
Thumb's Down.........

Spiral Guides?
My MB Shiryu has the spiral-placed guides and it works just fine That placement is suppose to offset the torque in the hookset and not rip the hooks out....I think :-?. The only difference that is noticable to me is the extra noise that the line makes as it passes thru the guides. Dan

What could I do to convince you ???
fishbear: I get my German-made Maxima here. As far as the expence of braid(and fluro) goes, all you have to do is fill the first half of the spool with a cheap mono and the outer half with the more expensive line. Refilling when necessary(fluro lasts a long time) just requires spooling new line on the outer half of the spool. Dan

What could I do to convince you ???
" but when weighed against the "constant pain" that is monofilament, it is a really easy trade for me " I use fluro 95% of the time as I said in my post..............
-
What could I do to convince you ???
Chris: I've used several(Fireline, Power Pro, Lynch, etc.) braids over the years. I lost an expensive topwater bait when I whipped it way out from a dock and the Fireline snapped like a toothpick . But, my main dislike with braid is its tendency to wrap around my rod's upper area when there's slack thrown into it. That could break an expensive rod if a heavy fish were to strike before I could get the limp braid unwrapped................................ I use a 100% fluro 95% of the time and the other 5% is in using 25# test Maxima for my heavier swimbaits. Dan

BEST REELS
I use both high-end Shimanos(Anteres ARs & Calais) and Daiwas(JDM models). The Shimanos are built like the finest bank vaults and Mercedes Benzs while the Daiwas are built like a Corvette(sleek and quick/fast). I voted for Shimano . Dan
