Tip top advice.
Whatever guides you use, always use a premium ceramic tip.

My epoxy hasn't dried.
Ditch the Pro-Cote, keep it warm. Good suggestions above. And Bass Junkie, I'd rethink the space heater deal, It only has to get up to 80 - 90F!

My epoxy hasn't dried.
If I'm not too late, I'd like to know what finish was used. I cure finish at 85-90F while on the dryer. Works great.

Crooked guides
You cut the foot off the reel up close to the reel and throw the reel away. Then grind the stem of the foot to a point. You can now put this in the reelseat of the new rod and sight down along it to help align guides after wrapping and before finishing. Kinda like a rear sight on a rifle.

takin off old pistol grip
Didn't realize how old this post was, but Gorilla glue is not the best option.

I want to build a custom rod
And before you shell out for that class, read the post below on spine. The first thing the class teaches you is how to find the blank's spine. You can see that a lot of places online as well as most other things you need to know. $200.00 goes a long way toward things you will really need. Watch the Flexcoat videos they are excellent.

I want to build a custom rod
Call Kevin at Get Bit he'll get you started on the right foot. A lot of unseen pitfalls and unneeded expense for the new builder at some of the bigger, more visible suppliers.

FLW fantasy fishing
I reached the same conclusion, it wouldn't take much effort on their part to let people know, but I guess they have enough on their plate this year. Thanks for the replies.

FLW fantasy fishing
Is there no FLW fantasy fishing for 2019? Can't find anything on it.

What first bass boat should I buy?
Get a 24v trolling motor. You can fish for days instead of hr.s.

More Nitro advice ( non-jack plate)
Well I just watched a video produced by Nitro boats dealing with proper trailering and boating procedure. When the guy hooks up the trailer he very clearly does not cross the cables. Kinda gets me back where I started. Is Nitro wrong or is the state of PA wrong? (PA's almost never wrong about anything!) I sure like chains.
-
More Nitro advice ( non-jack plate)
I get the crossing the chains part, I've been towing a boat since 1987. Might you be suggesting that cables may not be legal in PA? It may also be possible that when you turn enough slack is fed from the tubes to keep the ball nut from abrading on the cables where they contact it. It makes sense to me that they have to be crossed in order to cradle the tongue should it ever jump off the ball but it sure looks stupid.

More Nitro advice ( non-jack plate)
Sorry for late response, been away. If you cross them as my son did when he picked up the boat and brought it home. (just got this boat) They bind on the ball nut under the drawbar. They have no slack in them. You can pull slack from the tubes on the tongue but as soon as you let go they retract. Have not learned much about this rig yet as he just got it and we had enough time to get it winterized and covered. We already had 11" of snow.

More Nitro advice ( non-jack plate)
Nitro trailer (Trailstar) is equipped with retractable safety cables rather than chains. They retract into tubes along the tongue Are these meant to be crossed under the tongue as chains would be when hooking to tow vechicle? This seems to be impossible. As you might know there are 4 or 5 pics of the setup between the manuals for boat and trailer, none of which show it hooked to the tow vehicle. As always thanks

Jackplate advice
It is hydraulic, and my old boat had power trim so I understand that aspect of it. Guess I was wondering whether to start with it all the way up, down, or in the middle of the range. I would have assumed in the middle, but wanted to ask. I will look for videos. With the Fisher (SV-16 GT) I had a hydrofoil and that pretty much took the power trim out of the picture except for small adjustments. That thing was a dream to drive (although at top speed of 33mph). It kept us safe since 1987. (really liked the six gallon tank HA!) This Nitro is a whole nother ball of wax for us. Thanks for the replies guys.

Jackplate advice
My son just bought a used Nitro Z-7 , 150 Merc. Optimax equipped with a jackplate. Our previous boat was a Fisher marine with a 50. How does one approach driving a boat with this setup. Can I read instructions somewhere on proper driving technique?

Scrimless NFC
I agree with ghoti and DVT. I think the company has an odor about it.
