Using Google Earth
Been using it for years. And Its unreal when you show people how to change the year your looking at. It blows there minds. Guy on a crappie board the other day, found out how good it was when he could see the different water levels of the lake. I use this with google earth. But it will give you the same view from above to find your fishing spot. But also let you see the contour lines of the lake. http://www.navionics.com/en/webapp But this program shows better detail on some lakes that Google does not allow you to zoom in on good. http://www.flashearth.com/ Set on Yellow creek at Pickwick Goat Island on this view. Good Air Compressor?
Used the spare tire off my boat trailer for a long time. And it lasted a long time. I now have one of the Harbor Freight http://www.harborfreight.com/air-tools/air-compressors/3-gallon-100-psi-oilless-pancake-air-compressor-95275.html Uses it all the time even tough I have a 20 gallon and a 30 gallon compressor. But these smaller ones allow me to load it up and take it with me for other uses. Pete

Pickwick Dam Has Gates Open.
I figure we will have a kill again tonight. Even though it was warm. Minnows were in the shallow water today by the Bridge at Savannah. And they will forget to do back deep. So starting again and add time to bad fishing. But that is life in the slow lane. Pete

Pickwick Dam Has Gates Open.
Talked to a guy in Savannah today. There bass club had a Tournament Sunday, not a fish was weighed in on the lake. The guy also fished all day Saturday and did not get a hit. And he may not be the best fisherman on the lake. But has fished it 35 years or so. Most times he does well. Went by 2 of the local watershed lakes Saturday, guess I could ICE fish them. Don't like seeing Ice on our Tn waters.. Pete

Pickwick Dam Has Gates Open.
From the looks of it, you did without current part of the day. Can 't understand why they allow these people that build right on the edge of the river bank to set there water levels. You would think TVA would keep some water to make current with on the weekends. But after the last flood and water front flood zone builders screamed and got there way. They think if TVA has to flood them even though they build in the wrong spot they can get a Lawyer and stop them. Guess they can as they did. Hope you had a good day on the water. I hope to fish Wed and friday above the day or below. May just go and catch a limit of sauger and have a fish fry.

Pickwick Dam Has Gates Open.
I have found with the water around 90,000 CFP the fish are stacked in better spots. When its cut off like this, most times it scatters the fish unless they have been holding it for a week or so. I have found fish up at the dam after the gates were cut off. They like that slack current also. Was it hard to put a pattern together on the lake? Figure a spinner bait or AL rig would have been killer. That or crankbaits on the gravel in Al. Pete

Grand Child trumps a fishing trip for sure. Know I love all four of ours. And the last one well would give up fishing for him in a heartbeat. Well would think of it anyway. Pete

Floating Baits For C-Rig
Back around 1989 we were using a scumfrog that way. It worked, but was hard to set the hook on. But it did work great and more then a few people laughed about me fishing one like that. Pete

Match The Color Of Your Lures To The Forage Color Or Water Color?
Check these out and see if they look like the ones in this log? http://youtu.be/oVfNcBE2bBQ Full of them and a smallmouth trying to eat one. Pete

Floating Baits For C-Rig
Years ago I used a brush hog type bait with a foam ear plug inside it. Caught fish on that bait for a year like crazy. AS it would keep the bait about 2ft off bottom. And then for some reason just stopped fishing it. Also used to put a piece of Alka Seltzer inside the hollow bait. That worked some but not like I thought. Pete

Pickwick Dam Has Gates Open.
Its been around 90,000 CFS, Its tough but lots of people only fish when the waters high like this. Looks like without any rain toward the end of the week. The flood gates may be cut all the way down or off. Will be in Nashville Thursday and friday, going to the boat show after Lunch Friday. Then back home and I hope to get to fish a few days next week. Will have a open seat if anyone would like to go. Pete

Solid Afternoon
I had plans on going today, but life got in the way again. High temp here in West Tn today mid 60's and no wind. Perfect day and the rest of the week around 32 for a high. So will just go to the Nashville Boat show Friday and look at new boats. Pete

Do You Think These Will Work?
Most of my fishing these will be on pea gravel for smallmouth and largemouth. Will also use them as a shaky head, along with run them on a Al rig. Plus tied some with fish hair, I Know its old School stuff. But man its deadly on smallmouth for some reason. PLus can tie a mono hook guard into them with the hair also. As for color, back round 83 when I started bass fishing hard. I only used unpainted heads unless I was crappie fishing. Until I found out at times a colored head did hide it better. Have some sand colored power paint mixed up. Will try some in that where it tries to blend into the bottom and let the worm look natural. Pete

Do You Think These Will Work?
I plan on pouring some with 1/0,2/0,3/0 and the 4/0's. Will try to get enough to give away in Al in May. Any ideals on the colors? Pete

Winter, Feels Almost Over; When Is It Time To Start Again?!
Man I feel your pain on the east coast. Used to run up there every week hauling Candy that schools sold for fund raisers in the 80's. Never did like the cold winter weather. But loved it the rest of the year. But would not swap The Tn river and Pickwick lake for it all. Monday here around 50 degrees and I'm going to a small lake to catch the state record large mouth. This one below was 17 lbs 4 or 5 years ago. And have not heard anyone catching it yet. Should be 20 lbs or more now. Pete

Do You Think These Will Work?
Poured some 1/8th oz round head jigs with 4/0 hooks. Power painted them and got the eyes painted on. Put one on a straight work and one on a craw. Then a wobble head jig in 3/8 oz with a 1/0 hook and have one of my old Brush hogs on it. Will be using these as shaky head jigs and thinking that wobble head may be the ticket on the fall. As it will look more like a dying minnow on the fall each time. Will pour some 1/4 oz round head with 3/0 and 4/0 hooks next week to see how they turn out. Along with some stand up head with the same hooks. Pete

A rare insight into crankbait fishing
Guys that has not fished crankbaits right. Is sure missing out on the best search bait there is. Plus when the smallmouth are moving up on the gravel before the spawn. Its hard to beat a good crankbait. One thing I keep in the crankbait box is lead solder, warp a small piece around the front treble shaft. This will make a boat hunt where it would not before. I try to tune all my crankbaits to not float up as fast. That give's me more depth when cranking. Plus when it comes off a stump or rock, it will shoot wild and cause that fish to try ripping the rod out of your hand's.Plus I will tie one of these babies to the back hook. Use a piece of line 6" or so. Its unreal how many fish will come off this little fly swinging around behind bait like that. And don't think that No 1 hook can't take it. It will hold them and hold them good. Bought 60 crankbaits on sale (-$3. off each one) day before Christmas, Out of these 60 there may be 7 great baits. Then theres 30 good baits that is fishable out of them. The rest I will strip down sand until I get them running the way I want them to run. Then custom paint the colors I want on these. As someone else posted. When they put these plastic baits together, it only takes a few Thousand's off center and that bait is trash. I have 20 deep diving baits I bought a few years back, out of the 20 there was 1 single bait that was worth using. The other 19 are still in rebuild stage. So guys just because its a new bait does not mean its a good one. But with work they can be made into a bait that can be used. For me nothing can beat a Bandit 300 for spring smallmouth fishing. They have helped me to a lot of 100 fish days on Pickwick. Pete

Baking Jigs
100 of each 2 different sizes. Plus when I pour jigs, I will pour 50 to 100 at a time. That way I don't have to do it again for a while.
