  1. I've learned the hard way that snaps can and do open with larger fish... I now always throw hard baits using a traditional split ring. oe
  2. Hair jigs would be far down my list of suggested baits for your fishing. Give Caffeine Shads rigged on a 5/0 Owner Twist-lock hook a try. oe
  3. Balanced without any additional weight allows easier recognition of the lure's weight while fishing... is the purpose of the exercise. oe
  4. That's the purpose of the exercise. oe
  5. two behind, four in front... I've always had a good grip on things. oe
  6. I'll guess you've got those reel spools filled "to the top". I'd pull off 10 yards and fish them underfilled a bit. oe
  7. Thicken up the lube. Drag grease for the gears and 80wt. oil (lower unit lube) for the frame and handle bearings. Always use a very light oil for the spool bearings. oe
  8. MaxScent... cooked right in. oe
  9. a fluke style bait... currently MaxScent Jerk Shad or Caffeine Shad oe
  10. Thanks for the comparison pics. Interested to read what you think about them after a few hours of fishing. oe
  11. Yes, but I think acetone does a better job. Have plenty of air circulation if you choose acetone. oe
  12. Catt, curiosity has me... how few lures do you actually fish consistently? oe
  13. gears... drag grease internal bearings... 80wt. outboard lower unit oil line roller bearing... REM oil (or similar light oil) oe
  14. variation on a theme... oe
  15. There are several flavors of SpiderWire... UltraCast is pretty good line, more tightly braided than its stable mates. oe
  16. I only use it as a bait lubricant... only apply it when it will benefit my bait sliding through appropriate cover. oe
  17. Different soft plastic bait sizes require different jig head weights to maintain the same drop and retrieve speeds I like to fish. Desired depth also factors into the equation, so yes I need weights 1/16, 3/32, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4 & 3/8. oe
  18. I tie them myself... slightly less than 1/8oz dressed weight... most of the time any "trailer" is tied as part of the jig. oe
  19. As in larger natural lakes, the outside weed edge (deeper) and inside weed edge (shallower) are important in finding active bass. Deeper than the outside weed edge is far less productive for me. oe

  21. I rig it with an Owner Twist-lock light wire 3/0 hook. Let it shimmy on the fall to bottom as you would a Senko then walk it back with very light snaps... can also be affective with a slow steady retrieve. A lot of 4" perch get devoured by bass in our neck of the woods. oe
  22. Its a jerkbait, I fish it as one oe
  23. switch to an Albright knot... oe
  24. If it was a joke I admit to being duped, although I think it is an extremely dumb idea... oe
