  1. how many for my wife's dog? oe
  2. ... after the "Tada", you omitted the special price per dozen you are going to charge board members for these! oe
  3. While I do on occasion drop-shot a small plastic worm, I have more success using a black bunny leech streamer tied on a light 2X long 1/0 straight shank hook with a horizontal eye. More bait movement even when fished in place. oe
  4. while I don't agree with most of the suggestions above... the simplest way to save money on line I know of is use fewer reels. oe
  5. My experience is drag grease stays on the gear teeth longer than the blue grease I've used in the past... also, cross contamination to the drag stack isn't an issue. If for some reason you are greasing the frame bearings, use the blue grease for these, or better still, a heavy oil such as 90wt. lower unit oil. I've found a small flux brush with the bristles cut back to about 3/4" works well to apply grease to gear teeth. oe
  6. It appears of those that have owned both (really the only opinions that count), the Patriarch gets the nod... and still you're leaning Shimano. oe
  7. The bottom boxes are not as easily accessible as the those closer to the top. I prefer to keep my bag small and on my shoulder as I'm moving around quite a bit. Top loading is the only way to go for access while carrying it. oe
  8. My wife accuses me of selectively hearing what she is telling me, but I don't think she's being fair... oe
  9. Too subtle... half of the board's membership is struggling to find a way to fill a pickle jar with 32 degree water as Team9 did with his jerkbait spawning experiment. oe
  10. Uh... I think you've got this backwards. Building your own is an opportunity to make the best jig that fits your style of fishing. Don't skimp on components, especially the hook and line tie placement. oe
  11. MANY years ago I read a spinnerbait's blades cut through the water creating very little water disturbance instead sending most of the created energy (thump) up the line to the angler. This makes a spinnerbait an excellent bait for the angler to "feel" as it's being fished, but that visibility may provide a more important quality than vibration to attract a bass with a spinnerbait, as with most other bass baits. This theory has led me to worrying more about the spinnerbait size, weight, color, reflective flash and ability to be retrieved without leaning to one side or the other than whether one spinnerbait creates more "thump" than another. I would hope someone would refute this assertion if not accurate, as I'm far too old to continue believing in fairy tail theories... oe
  12. At one time bass size was an indication of a top predator that was cunning enough to avoid capture itself for many seasons and was a prized trophy that spoke to an angler's perseverance and skill. It appears we are moving away from that notion in bass fishing. alas... oe
  13. Craft hair? oe
  14. Rabbit zonkers have been used dressing bass/walleye/pike jigs for years... both commercially and by those tying for themselves. oe
  15. Buy the $120 reel of your choice then order a replacement spool... oe
  16. Make 5 turns of the handle and divide total distance by 5... more accurate oe
  17. http://www.bestlightedhats.com/pilot-hats-description.html oe
  18. Much too limiting in space and totally unnecessary. Spread your materials and tools on a table top and go to it. oe
  19. Be mindful that the listed IPT of a reel is with a full spool. A slightly under-filled spool or spool 1/2 empty on a long cast will retrieve significantly less line per handle turn. I measure the actual IPT of my reels... Curado B5 & BB1 19"; Chronarch 51e 22.5"; Morrum 1601c 23.5; Pixy 68 & Abu Premier 25". The Chronarch, Morrum, Pixy & Premier are 6.x - 1 listed reels. All of these reels are filled to 1/8" of absolutely full and all of these reels bring in considerably less line during the cast. The sweet spot I'm comfortable with is 22" - 25", anything less and I have trouble keeping up with Smallies when they want to rocket to the surface... I haven't used the Curado or BB1 for a while now. oe
  20. Find a jighead you like with a light wire guard. I think they inhibit the hook set less and you can bend them out of the way while you tie... oe
  21. There is almost no weight stowing my Terrova manually with it's lift assist. I prefer to keep my equipment as simple as possible to sidestep future mechanical issues. The last thing I want to do is ruin a day of fishing because my self-stowing trolling motor seizes and won't stow... oe
  22. Bluebasser you are correct, I have far more destroyed jerkbaits walleye fishing than bass fishing, however, the acrobatics of a good smallmouth, northern pike or musky fight really gets my blood moving... oe
  23. I was unable to find a Berkley line named Invis, perhaps you could provide a link... oe
  24. There continues to be a consistent evening walleye bite on our local waters. Shoreline wadding increased current and necked-down areas just at sundown for several hours. Casting paddle tail plastics and shallow suspending jerkbaits. I hope other upper-Midwest board members are taking advantage of this bite as well... oe
