  1. Don't feel bad Dink, This past May I was pulling my boat while following my dad (who was hauling his boat). Neither one of us knew where we were going and when he came up on the turn tried to stop real quick. He stopped faster than I could so I decided I'd just pass him (no big deal). Well, it was a big deal. He turned! I threw his boat of his trailer and sent it sliding down the road. Then, I T-boned his brand new truck (totaling it, and mine). My boat ended up in the bed of my truck. I totaled two trucks and did a considerable amount of damage to two boats. Don't feel bad Dink. One boat isn't that bad :-/
  2. One of three things will happen to a lure (hook or hooks) that get stuck in a bass' mouth: 1. The bass will work the hook out against the bottom. 2. Someone else will catch the bass soon and remove the broken off lure/hook. 3. In time, the hook will rust and break out of the bass' mouth. I wouldn't worry about breaking off the occasional fish. However, I wouldn't try to "preform operations" as nwgabassmaster put it.
  3. I just look around for something to throw my spinnerbait at, then start chunking it.
  4. There is a company that makes a trolling motor recess. I think it sells for around 150 bucks, but if you have a new boat, you might consider it. If you're interested, I'll try to looked it up.
  5. I know in rural areas tackle turns up in just about any kind of stores. We still have a small town grocery store that sells tackle. It seems weird today, but up until about 20 years years ago they used to stock trout in the nearby stream and the place used to get packed with anglers. I doubt they will continue with the tackle since a WalMart opened up a mile away. Loyalty: Abu/Garcia baitcasters. Quality and Price! I learned on them and have about 5 or 6 I still use. Tire store? That dosn't sound odd. I used to buy my tackle at a bowling alley. The benefit was that I never had to buy scent, after being around all those stincking shoes they smelled bad enough. Thankfully, the guy who ran the bowling alley/tackle shop moved out and started a great little tackle store right beside the ramp I use at the river.
  6. First and foremost: I don't fish for anything but bass, so what I do is just go bass fishing, and on those rare days that the fishing is easy, I'll go home and get a kid, an inexperienced buddy, my wife, or whoever else I can find, and take them back to get them hooked on this wonderful sport so the bait monkey can steal all of their money too.
  7. No. But it does seem that there are more cocky fishermen in California than anywhere else. I watch the Saturday morning shows on ESPN most weeks and almost every other week Skeet Reese (or one of the other California dudes) is talking about how West Coast anglers get no respect and how they are better than anglers in the rest of the country. Better, no! Cockier, yes! ;D Just kidding. There are some good, humble Californians on this site and the 16 year old guy who just won the Stren Series out there seems pretty humble too. It is odd that the only people I hear bringing this topic up are the West Side dudes.
  8. KVD is my favorite pro fisherman. Swindel is my favorite comedian. Ike is my favorite entertainer.
  9. I've read that this is a result of air bubbles interfering with the transducer. The best place to find out (beside here) is Lowrance's web site. Go under their tutorials and they answer about every question imaginable.
  10. Good job Avid. You give us all something to work toward! Too bad preachers never retire, we just go out to pasture (I mean pastor). ;D
  11. I've been fishing the same hot-spots for about 3 years now. Granted, that's as long as I've been fishing the body of water at all, so I don't know how long they'll last.
  12. Why would you ever take the trolling motor off? If you would for some reason, definately install one. If you can't see yourself removing it, why would you need one? Good luck. And welcome to this forum. You came to the right place for a lot of good information.
  13. I think I remember a post about this earlier, but I caught a couple of bass this afternoon with red lips. What does this mean? Sorry for repeating a topic.
  14. Dinks and all I guess around 300.
  15. WOW!!! That's a clean boat. Sounds like you got a good deal. I hope you and your family make a lot of memories on it and catch a bunch of bass.
  16. You know if you would have skipped Church and went fishing you would have broken your new rod and lost that nice fish ;D Sorry, I just felt compelled to preach a little bit Nice rod, nice fish, congratulations!
  17. You're a good guy RW. Thanks for everything you do for this sport, this site, and all of us anglers.
  18. If you've got a problem then most of us on this forum need to consult a physician, psychologist, or someone quick. ;D
  19. Three, the longesd drive is about two hours.
  20. I agree with ghoti's logic 100%. I went fishing today and caught a couple of small keepers. That makes me the greatest fisherman today! Sorry to toot my own horn ;D
  21. My dad, my neighbor, and I have all had bad experiences with HBs. The main problem we've had is that when we're running over 10 mph we can't get a reading. Also, my dad and I have both had them read 500-600 feet while we're sitting in 5-10 feet of water. That's why I'm not a big HB fan, but there's probably a hundred guys on this site who have had the same problems with all the other brands.
  22. My dad introduced me to fishing. When I was a little kid he bought an old wore out fiberglass fishing boat and he'd go out trying to catch bass, but I would start bragging about all the bream I was catching, so he'd have to quit bass fishing and toss out a worm or cricket and shut me up. ;D Then one day I messed up and caught a NICE bass (probably a pound or so) and I was hooked. After a while he bought an aluminum bass boat (that I later bought from him so he could get a bigger boat) and I haven't had a dime to my name since then. I'm on my 5th boat now (a beautiful Skeeter) and I have the priviledge of taking my dad fishing almost every Friday. I wouldn't trade it for anything!
  23. I didn't know preachers could fish ;D Welcome to the board, and stay away from those HBs
  24. I've had good luck with Everstart batteries. I have a 24v Minn Kota, and I fish it at about 70% on my home river and I can fish an 8 hour day like I want to without trying to conserve any juice. I've had other batteries but they didn't do that good. I'm sure there's probably some better, but I'm fine with what I can get from Wal-Mart.
  25. I've never heard that. It would stink to catch a 25 lbr. on 50 lb. Power Pro braid and then have some IGFA official tell you that your bass was nice but it wouldn't qualify for the world record because of your line. The IGFA might not recognize your fish as the world record, but the fishing community would. And I bet you could get a little sponsorship deal worked out with the folks at Power Pro
