you should check the bluegill and green sunfish populations. if there is plenty of food for the bass the pond could make a nice come back

Stinkbugs
i hate those things with a passion. its like a few years ago they just showed up in mass numbers out of nowhere in the mid-atlantic area of the country. when i lived in northern virginia a couple years ago in an older farm house, them things were everywhere at times. lining the corners in the ceilings of the house. dive bombing my head. and then you go to grab something and theres a stink bug on it that you crush and set that horrid smell free and its hard to wash off. and i would cover my drinks with a napkin or something because they will just fly and fall right in it and ruin it. theyre very clumsy bugs too

Swear By The Barometer?
ill be honest here, i have no idea what barometric pressure even is. and like many here, i could careless what the barometric pressure "level" is, im going fishing if the chance arises regardless. i dont care about weather fronts and such either, unless its thundering and lightening out, im gonna go fishing. i do admit i peek at the moon phase every now and then, but dont let that stop me either and have found no correlation between it and my fishing...

What Are You Looking Forward To?
my first trip of the year to Smith Mountain Lake. setting up on the dock in the evening, tying up my live bait rigs on some rods and a couple lures on other rods. ill crack open that first ice cold budweiser of the night, get the radio tuned in on the classic rock station and just take in the sites around me. eventually ill start with casting around the artificials for awhile. usually ill have a shallow diving crank or top water tied on one rod, and some sort of soft plastic like a super fluke or kinami flash or one of the various rage tails. after awhile ill set them down, and put some bait(nightcrawlers, minnows, chicken livers, shrimp or cutbait) on some of my other rods and get 2 or 3 casted out to start with. its just so relaxing sitting back waiting for a bite, taking in the atmosphere and pounding some budweisers. at this point i dont have a care in the world other than what im doing at the moment. not worried about work or home or anything else. its so refreshing. sometimes i will even fall asleep out there in my chair and wake up to a rod or two bouncing with hooked fish or with slack line that has a fish on the other end lol...

Do I Need A Trailer For A Spinner-Bait?
ive never used a trailer hook and i dont recall ever being short striked on a spinner bait. i did use a trailer one day on a spinnerbait, for some reason i threaded on a white curly tail grub and the fish in the pond must of loved it because i started catching them where i had got nothing with just the regular spinnerbait...

Big East Coast Snow Storm For March 6
Glad this storm didnt do half of what it was calling for. The temperature was just too high, the snow was melting while it was still falling. Got around 6 inches yesterday and most of it melted already. Was in the range calling for 12-20 inches. What sucked was knowing i wasnt gonna come to work on Wednesday, and getting home Tuesday night and not having internet. atleast they made it out Wednesday at 2pm to fix my internet, apparently somehow a phone line under the house that runs to the phone jack the modem is hooked in became disconnected and just had to be plugged back up...

When Did You Start?
been fishing since i was in my moms belly, she always told me she fished with the rod end proped up on her belly when she was pregnant with me, lol. i always fished as a child since i can remember. my mom and dad would take me to this place in Great Falls, VA to some nature center. we would walk down this long trail in the woods that came to a pond. at this pond another trail went to the right which would lead you to the potomac river. we fished both. i remember at the river just throwing out a nightcrawler on a eagle claw hook with the leader attached and an 1/4oz bass casting sinker. just let the river take it down and start reeling back up, we landed a lot of bass this way. then my uncles would also take me fishing at beaverdam creek reservoir a lot when i was visiting. eventually i moved to NC. me and my mom fished a lot of ponds and a spot we had on the bank of lake gaston, we used nightcrawlers and worms we hand dug, she never uses artificial and taught me more about fishing than my dad ever did. i grew up never really fishing artificials. at times i went stretches without fishing, but its something ive always enjoyed and has always seem to come back to me.

Should The Fwc Change The Bass Bag Limits?
my question would be how the current regs affect tournament fishing, or are they just ignored? if you can only keep 1 fish over 14 inches and the other 4 have to be below 14, that would make for some very small bags in some big fish lakes. obviously tournament fishing isnt abiding by that based on the info given here. but then again im not from florida, dont fish tourneys, and am not versed in their laws so my assumption here could be wrong....

Octopus For Drop Shot Rigs Or Not?
this is correct. the hooks in the diagram are mislabeled. the top hook is an octopus hook and the bottom is an octopus circle hook. i use the several hooks for drop shotting depending on what the fish want or what bait(artificial or live) i am fishing. sometimes they wont touch certain hooks but kill others in my experiences. mostly i use regular octopus hooks or the gamakatsu dropshot/splitshot hooks which are just tiny octopus hooks. i will also use worm hooks. on occasion i will also use the owner or eagle claw baitholder hooks, and gold abeerdeen hooks as well. the owner baitholders look just like the gamakatsu octopus hooks though...

Type Of Equipment You Carry?
depends. if im bank fishing from my uncles dock at Smith Mtn Lake then i carry my whole tackle bag and 6 rods usually. along with a cooler of ice cold Budweiser, and a radio for some tunes, usually classic rock and Saturday nights Dee Sniders House Of Hair metal show. i will also take down the landing net and a bucket that i fill with water. i use it for washing my hands if i use chicken livers or some small bluegill i happen to catch in case i decide to use cut bait later. usually this is night fishing. i will also take a trash bag for my beer cans and empty bait containers. if im going elsewhere i will pack up a backpack with a couple lure boxes and some terminal tackle in there. pliers, snacks, drinks. just a few essentials. maybe a fold up chair in a bag i can carry if im going to live bait fish. i will carry a couple rods and thats it.

On The Water Snacks?
I'm usually not out on a boat all day like some of you guys. When i am out on the boat, its usually early morning trolling for stripers or late evening and after dark casting for stripers and bass. In the mornings i usually havent eaten yet, sometimes i may have had a couple donuts or some sort of pastry and coffee, so i usually pack me a ham or turkey and cheese sandwich and take that with me, along with a cup of coffee or a cold soda and a bottle of water. In the evenings ive eaten dinner by then and am usually not hungry, its all about a cooler full of ice cold beer by then. If i'm bank fishing ill eat something before i get there, i may take a couple small bags of peanuts or chips, maybe a granola bar or candy bar, just some basic snacks picked up from the store on the way. and a couple sodas or bottles of water. if i am night fishing for catfish i always have a cooler of budweiser within arms reach lol. and if im just going for an hour or so, i usually take nothing but a drink or two...

How Often Do You Change Line?
except for one reel with FC i only use mono when i fish. I've had the same line on some reels going on 3 years now. The mono is still as strong as ever. I only change line when it gets low on the spool or i just want to try out a new line or a different size. Ive been using stren and big game, never had a fish break off because of line or at the knot. but those lines are awfully coily until you "break them in" with a couple fish. its coily when spooling it up. this past weekend i went to BPS and they had sufix siege mono on sale for 5 dollars a spool, i picked up 3 sizes, i havent fished it yet but off the spool there was barely any coil. i was amazingly surprised at that and how limp and soft it seems. kind of got off track lol, but back to the point. mono will last a long time if stored properly. i got several reels i need to respool for this year because theyre low on line. but i will be respooling some of them with the line off the same spool of the 3 year old line im replacing

Are There Some Baits You Just Won't Use?
Rebel POP-Rs, never caught a fish on them, closest thing i caught a fish on to a POP-R is a Rapala Skitter Pop, and that was just one fish. also, firetiger color, just doesnt produce for me. never caught a thing on black and blue baits either, or purple Tubes, just no interest in them... wacky rig, dont like it, prefer to texas rig... zoom worms, they just seem really narrow, they have no girth to them, cant get a bite on them anymore --------- somethings that have been removed from this list are the jitterbug, some crankbaits, and jerkbaits...

Color Selection
i recently wrote a couple posts about bank fishing specifically at SML. best and first thing you can do is learn the water and structure around the areas you have access to from the bank. as for colors there, ive had success on baby bass, pearl/white, and almost any light green color with black flake in it just to name a few. go to the Southeastern section of the forum and look for threads on SML as well. the water was really low there this past fall/winter, as low as ive ever seen it. last time i went was in october, i took some pictures of stuff that was previously underwater for my reference. it seems the water is back up to normal now though so that possibility is out....

Alex Smith Traded To Kansas City
i dont think you can call Flacco or Eli game managers. They have both been pretty d**n good in the postseason. The Ravens defense with Flacco was not near the juggernaut that Dilfer had with the ravens. Eli also has some huge 4th quarter comebacks to his name, game managers do not do that. look back at the SBs the last several years. all of the teams have top QBs except maybe dilfer and brad johnson in the early 2000s, but both had great defenses. so really, game managers havent typically won many superbowls...
