  1. because not everyone is gaga for shimano reels...
  2. i got one size up from the smallest and paired it with a 5'6 ugly stik pro-lite earlier this year, its one of my favorite combos. if there wasnt the slightest bit of play between the knob and the arm then you wouldnt be able to reel it, right? you certainly dont want the knob locked in place or real tight where it gets worn down. ive had no problems from mine and have landed bass up to 4lbs so far on it, great for throwing lightweight lures too...
  3. try pearl colored super flukes and chrome lipless cranks... im heading down to SML for Memorial Day weekend, but not so much for bass as for catfish this time. usually this time of year at SML i get into a ton of catfish and white perch... any bass i catch this time of year are usually around the banks, docks, and tree stumps. many of them will swim out from under the dock at my uncles house there and bump my bait out of aggrevation but not try to eat it, wont even open their mouth. this year im thinking stand back on the bank and throw under the dock. i dont get too much time out on his boat, especially since he has a new one that he hasnt even put the trolling motor or electronics on yet. but docks and rocky points will probably be good producers for bass this time of year...
  4. i have one of the spring scales with the hook on the bottom of it. i hate it because you have to hook fish under the gills, though i have seen some people punch a hole in the bottom of a bass's mouth where that soft transparent tissue is, but not every kind of fish has that. another problem is when the fish decides it wants to thrash around they easily flop off the scale hook and fall off. when i do decide to purchase another scale im definately getting one with the grips on it...
  5. id have to agree, i intentionally mixed a bunch of plastics where i only had one or two left in a bag with a few berkley red shad worms mainly just to make room, the only baits in there that havent changed color are the red shad worms... dont worry, i kow have a couple pink flukes due to what i described above lol...
  6. and many of yall thought the guy was going to retard his hand for the rest of his life...
  7. geez, yall act like its a major life threatening injury. athletes often play through injuries, delaying surgery till after the season, and come out just fine. cut the kid a break. and hey, if he wants to learn things the hard way then let him, thats the only way for some people to learn anything. 3 days extra of no cast probably didnt make or break this kids life like many of you are acting. some injuries might require emergency surgery, sometimes youre sent home and have to wait for surgery till the 'swelling goes down'...
  8. jigs, havent used them much, but never even had a bite when ive used them...
  9. awhile back i saw them threwing rage shrimps on a tv show to catch red fish...
  10. id have to agree with goliath grouper. another thing i would like to do is something i saw on Quest For The One. they were fishing for giant 1000lb bluefin tuna flying the bait out to them with kites, they didnt land one all show, line kept snapping on them, which is what makes me want to see if i can land one.
  11. like many have said its a great stress reliever and allows me to clear my mind. it can be enjoyed whether its a competitive or non-competitive atmosphere. it doesnt matter if i catch fish or not, doesnt have to be bass fishing, i enjoy catching all species willing to bite whatever bait im using. actually one of my favorite things to do is sit out on the dock at my uncles lake house all night drinking beer, listening to the radio and catfishing, but many times also catching bass, white perch, bream, carp, and crappie. one night even caught a nice striper off the dock. many nights im by myself down there and those are the best nights usually. going in two weeks for memorial day weekend, cant wait. last year the catfish were in there spawning and i probably caught 200 catfish that weekend, most of them nice eaters and hard fighters. anyways ive gone off point some, but usually after i take a weekend fishing trip i return to my 'daily routine/everyday life' feeling much more refreshed mentally...
  12. try looking up the through the gills hook removal method on in-fisherman's website. works everytime for bass hooked in the throat...
  13. i typically hate using the phone anyways unless its to take care of something or making plans and such. im not one to sit there and talk about nothing on the phone for long periods of time. i dont care about silly apps and gadgets, i just need to be able to make or receive a phonecall if somethings going on. i dont even have a cell phone plan with a monthly bill, i got a prepaid tracphone i keep around for emergencies mainly. like if i break down, or to keep in touch with family when i was trapped in a gridlock snow storm this past winter. and i cant stand it when someone is constantly on their phone talking to someone else when theyre hanging out with me, and they get off the phone and start texting or facebooking and stuff. and the worst is those who wear the bluetooth headset things on their ear ALL day, they look like...well i dont need to say it. in fact, i hate people having a direct pipeline to me, leads to more aggravation and more people wanting you to do stuff for them. the cool thing about my prepaid tracphone is i dont use a cell phone enough to validate having a plan with someone else, but 20-40 bucks every 3 months or so aint bad either....
  14. yeah, its right off I81, cant remember the exit number though but you can see it from 81...
  15. no way to know for sure without seeing them, but lots of times walking around a pond i will see bass take off from under the grass and algae patches. try to sneak up on them, stand a good ways from the bank and cast out a weightless baby rage craw and wait for it to get crushed on the fall
  16. wow, thats an amazing day
  17. ive caught frog fish on a zebco 33 combo. technique specific rods are often unneccesary and just another way for companies to make more money from people who think they need it.....
  18. just use a leader if youre worried about it...lots of people have trouble seeing their line. i dont think bright colored line is as big an issue as some think though
  19. flip a live nightcrawler in there, she wont resist it...
  20. just use it, you might have some coily line at first, but after a couple fish or just enough use it will straighten itself out, i doubt the line is damaged or needs to be replaced...
  21. im right handed and have reeled with my left hand all my life. my first and only baitcaster(so far) i got earlier this year and i made sure it was a left handed reel. like someone else said, for me its not as much as which hand im reeling with as it is the hand im holding the rod in, much more comfortable with the rod in my right hand especially on a hook set. oddly i also drive with my left hand better than my right hand...
  22. it would depend on the size of the pond too, the bigger the pond the more rain its going to take. the water level in a pond i fish frequently is as high as its ever been, the fish seem to be loving it, and feeding more because of it. they also have more cover in the grass and stuff along the bank
  23. i cant support that Acer suggestion, every Acer ive seen hasnt lasted 2 years barely before something inside burns up. Acers are crap in my opinion. My HP has served me well though, and the Asus's ive used have been ok too. Also, anything Dell is bound to slow down severly in a couple years after purchase, they just bog down. Toshiba is probably one of the better laptops on the market right now...
  24. i can think of atleast 2-3 places... : X
  25. i have a 5'6 light ugly stik pro-lite spinning rod, i absolutely love it. its great for panfishing and fun for bass fishing as well. i use it for nightcrawlers, certain weightless plastics, small cranks, and almost any lure thats real lightweight...
