I've still got plenty of Sluggo style baits back when those were all the rage around 10 years ago. Mostly in baitfish colors.
  2. One of the reasons my fishing season last year sucked so bad was spending way too much time throwing this bait, among other things. It seems to have a time and a place but I haven't figured out exactly when I'll be using that bait again. I'll probably throw it again this spring, maybe, for now though I think a spinnerbait would do the job equally well in many situations.
  3. Get yourself a second hard drive, external or the even cheaper internal type. I usually wipe Windows clean once or twice a year and reload it. Even if my main C drive crashes, I've got all my valuable stuff on a 160gb backup hard drive.
  4. Wow. That's a pretty big reservoir. Looks like the water would have to flow through both Cordell Hull and Old Hickory lakes before getting to Nashville.
  5. It's slow for me at home and at work.
  6. You'll definitely need that big boat on Michigan. Enjoy.
  7. Doh! Has LBH seen this. This is just the kind of thing he was talking about building just without the OB motor. Those boats looked like someone cut a full size Bassboat in half and re-rigged a new transom on the thing. Is this in Japan BTW? Very weird website. Some is in English and some in Japanese.
  8. Here's the part I don't agree with. You're talking about the guys who are onto something, letting that out while the tourney is on (in the case of a 2 dayer). I disagree. Part of the learning cycle of successful fishing is using your own noodle to figure out what the fish are doing. If it turns into a deal where guys who are onto fish have to divulge where they're catching them, you'll never be motivated to really think for yourself nor have to think outside the box to try and catch fish. If you're using the same approach each time you're on the water and not catching, you'll merely wait till the leaders have to divulge their secrets of location and presentation. Most clubs have a group of guys who seem to consistantly catch fish regardless of the conditions. They're usually at the top of the leaderboard consistantly. Those are the guys you want to fish with to learn their processes. If your club doesn't have this rule in place, I'd suggest that at least 50% of the tournaments, an individual must participate in a draw for a partner. This way you and others who aren't quite so successful can have the opportunity to fish with someone who is and learn from them. Regardless if your club fishes money tournaments or not, a tournament is competitive. Asking guys to divulge what they're doing while the tourney is going on isn't fair to them. Having them explain what they caught them on and where after the event is a better deal. If you need to find out more, just ask them. Most guys in a fish for fun club tourney enviroment are more than happy to divulge more about their technique and thinking system that put them onto the fish.
  9. He voiced his opinion. His employer also has the right to terminate him if, in his opinion, he offended a customer to the point it was a fireable offense (which this was). Justice was served.
  10. DEADRISE- Measurement of the angle between the bottom of the vessel and it's widest beam. A vessel with a 0' deadrise has a flat bottom, high numbers indicate deep V shaped hulls. Depends on where that's measured at. 8 degrees isn't much. The number doesn't mean alot. Hull design has much more to do with rough water ride.
  11. Good thing Bill gets his equipment for free. ;D
  12. I dun grajiated frum collaj 2 1/2 yeers ago, no moor math fore mee.
  13. I considered it way back in my youth. Money was the obstacle too big to overcome. Unless you have an un-ordinarily God gifted talent towards catching fish under just about any condition and in a tournament competition setting you'd better be Not married Have a wife who worships the ground you walk on since the time away from home will tax any marriage. Have some sort of job that allows you to come and go as you please and yet still pays you. Win the lotto. Have a wife who comes from money who fits description #2. Not be planning on raising a family and spending time with them. Have a family member with money who'll support you monetarily.
  14. If you're limiting yourself to just 4 rod n reel combo's AND unless you do a whole bunch of flippin, I wouldn't waste one whole combo on just one technique. I would've bought a 7' Hvy action rod that could be used for C-rigging, plastic worm fishing and flipping. A second rod would be a Med/Hvy 6'6" for deep cranks, big spinnerbaits, wormin, jigs, spoons, frogs, buzzbaits. A third 6'6" medium action for crankbaits, senko's, topwaters, lipless cranks, spinnerbaits. The fourth would be a 6' med action spinning rod for tossing finesse style baits, senko's, drop shotting, tubes, creature baits, etc.
  15. hu----- Thow shall not slam KVD. Or thow will be smited this a ugly stick. I know what you saying. I would like to see what some of better pros would do on my home lake with the equitment I have. Just to see I not every one has a fish calling thing or a boat for that matter. I would kill to spend the day with KVD on my pond just to see how he would fish it. no boat no gismos.. At the end of the day you'd probably be saying the following: I never thought to use that lure like that. I never knew there were fish that big in my lake. I never knew how that presentation really worked. I never thought fishing that part of the pond, it always looked non-fishy to me. I never realized just how hard these guys fish regardless if they're in a boat or not. Wow, KVD catches fish whether he's got electronic aids or not. Facts are facts. The pro's routinely show up at a tournament lake and whup up on the locals that have entered the tournament even, though those locals know every nook and cranny of that lake. They have an uncanny knack of approaching any body of water, determining in where the fish are in relation to seasonal movements and the best presentations to achieve success. They don't need a $50,000 bassboat or $5000 worth of electronics to do it. They're just that good.
  16. I picked up a couple of the Bill Dance reels a couple years ago with the intent to sell both. I stuck one on a rod for an early spring fishing trip and wound up catching my PB at over 8 lbs on the thing. ;D It was an OK reel. Very smooth casting but a few things stuck out like the spool tension knob was made of plastic and the threads were stripped on one. (BPS sent me a pair of them for free so I could sell the things). It just didn't have a real solid feel to it. I'm not sure how well those reels would hold up if you really put the muscle to them over a fishing season.
  17. It looks like it's a one-off with parts from an S model and a SX. Sure is purty.
  18. You can buy removable trolling motor mounts these days that make it much easier to take one on and off. They usually run from around $60 - 100.
  19. I've got a collection of old Indy 500 event pins and CART event pins. Got some antique cigar boxes. Some old tins. Used to have an extensive Baseball card collection from the 50's into the early 70's. Sold those in the late 80's and made a fortune on them. Also had an extensive LP record collection. Sold them about 10 years ago but didn't make out quite as well. I haven't added to any of these collections for years now.
  20. I have a master on/off switch on the dash. I use it so if I were to accidently leave an accesory on I don't come back to a dead battery. Of course, just like I would have to remember to shut off all the accessories, I also have to remember to shut off the master switch or the whole system is for naught.
  21. Those Springfield threaded posts are known to "stick" a little. ;D A rag wrapped around the pedestal post and a large plumbers wrench will work.
  22. I guess my issue is the black and white colored collars aren't doing the same thing. I pulled some jigs out of my jig box that have easily been in there 4-5 years and the black collars are intact. There were 2 lone jigs that used the brownish collars and those came apart. Guess I'll head to Janns and get some collars and skirt material. I've always thought about doing skirts. I've already got a tool for spreading the collars and saw a neat idea using a piece of an arrow shaft for making them.
  23. What's odd is some of the spares I've got in a bag with those collars are just fine even though they're the same age. Guess I'll pick up some of the black and white ones along with some skirts.
  24. Don't know if your boat has a bilge pump with auto feature but regardless, never put a bilge pump on a circuit that has a master off switch. Your bilge pump on/off switch should always have power applied to if straight from the battery and an auto switch should always be wired straight to the battery.
