I'm getting mid-air backlashes on BC
Most of my mid air backlashes have been caused by overspooling too much line on the reel.

Problem plaining
I'm taking it that this is a pretty old boat. Early to mid 70's? There's just so much you can do to that thing. First, the Chrysler was hardly a fire breathing dragon as far as performance goes but I doubt the engine is your problem. First, you may have a waterlogged hull. The foam floatation in the hull in those older boats gets saturated and can't drain or dry out. This adds substantial weight to the boat creating problems, especially with the holeshot. Your prop may be too high of a pitch. Check the prop pitch. Try one several pitches lower. If that doesn't help then you'll need to go with a doelfin type device.

Most Dangerous U.S. City
The core downtown area around the stadium complexes is fairly safe, though I wouldn't want to stray too far away from those areas. St Louis has been a city in decline for many years. The population of the city is down to around 250,000 people, many of them live in poverty areas or just plain bad areas of the city. The north side of the city is bad. The south side isn't a whole lot better. There are clusters of good areas but there aren't a lot of younger people moving into the city, most are moving to the burbs. Once the older folks start dying out the neighborhoods begin to decline. There's also been a massive influx of Bosnians and Vietnamese is certain parts of the city. That hasn't exactly been working out real well either. When the blacks began moving into north St. Louis county around 25 years ago the white flight started. The first blacks that moved in were good, hard working folks that had worked their way out of the ghetto and now wanted to live the good life, too bad for them. Within a few years those once all white neighborhoods were very rundown. There are areas in North St Louis county where I used to hang out as a teen in HS with my friends that aren't completely safe anymore. Many of those North Countians ran out to St. Charles to get away from it all. As for the question, is St. Louis that bad crime wise? Probably no worse than any other large city. There isn't a lot of crime in the burbs, most of them anyway, except the usual robbery, break in kind of thing. It's nothing that would stop me from moving here if I didn't live here already or cause me to caution anyone wanting to move here. I would definitely let anyone who's never been here before know exactly where the NO GO areas were. BTW, as you all know St Louis won the world series. The partying went on into the night. There were no cars overturned and set on fire, no looting, no vandalism, no shootings, etc. Sunday an estimated half a million, yes a half a million people were downtown for the WS parade and ceremony at the ballyard. There were no cars overturned, no looting, no vandalism, no shootings, etc. for that either. Now, how does that stack up against some of the so-called safe cities that have had far worse when they tried celebrating a sports championship?

aluminum vs. fiberglass
If you're going to be fishing a larger lake and want a good, safe ride that's relatively smooth even in some of the roughest waters you can't beat a fiberglass boat. There is no comparison in the solid feel of a fiberglass boat cutting through any type of water more than a chop. Of course, on the downside is the weight of fiberglass which requires a larger motor and also a larger tow vehicle to get you to the lake. If that isn't an issue, I wouldn't even consider aluminum.

casting a rat l trap
A loud splash followed by your retrieval of the Rat-L-Trap will mimic a baitfish jumping on the surface and then fleeing a predator perfectly. Why would you want a softer splash, are you flippin with it?

$10,500 is an extremely good price! Congrats.

your smallest bass
I've caught smaller but my only fish today was only around 4-5 inches. Got the back treble stuck in his mouth. I barely knew he was on.

That WILL involve the posting of pictures muddy. and I wanna see the hook in her. Ya know, Some guys lie about those kind of things just like fishermen lie about the fish they catch.

One tough lake
I once again I went fishing at Perry Co. Lake today. I've been hitting this 120 acre lake pretty frequently the past 4 years or so. Caught my PB there last year at a little over 8lbs. but this year has been brutal. Perry county has a little bit of everything. Rocky banks, lots of submerged timber, humps, brushpiles in deeper water, lilypads, milfoil, a decent inflowing creek. One other thing it has which I believe is screwing with the fishing are numerous aerators in the lake. There are pumphouses on shore with pvc pipes running into the water, these feed around 15-20 aereation heads (sorta like bubble stones) out in the lake. Most of these are in roughly 20 - 23ft of water. This lake is usually offcolored but it never stratifies. There is no "deadzone" so to speak, in the lower reaches of the lake where the oxygen content is too low to sustain fish life. Consequently, bass, and any other fish are free to roam the entire water column. In the summer the shad ball up around the aeration heads and the fishing is usually just lights out. Merely move from aeration boil to boil and cast shad colored crankbaits and you'll catch fish. I've also had success with jigging spoons around the boils to. Unfortunately though, when the aerators are running the bass don't hold on traditional cover. In fact, when the aereators are running and the shad aren't around the boils finding bass or catching them is darn near impossible and the problem is is they've been running them continuously almost all year. I've graphed fish suspended all across the water table the past few trips. Often suspended in open water in the middle of the lake holding on nothing. I've attempted numerous times to catch these fish but to no avail, they're not catchable. It's gotten to the point where if the aerators are running I'm almost tempted to just pull the boat out and move along to the next lake. I hate to do this because I know this lake holds large fish, I know because I've caught plenty of 5 + lb fish out of here. I'm attempting to get the conservation agents number who looks over the lake to see if I can find out ahead of time if the pumps are running or not. 5 hours on the lake today and one small dink, last week wasn't much better.

Members challenge
Skip November. When you restart next spring I'd suggest the first signup, say the first of March be for April.. In the couple I've been involved in I didn't get my challenge till the middle of the month. that's not a lot of time to give it a try if I don't have the ability to fish the last week or two of the month.

Got my first boat!!!
Do you mean a Yamaha ProV or a Vmax. I've never heard of a Yamaha Pro Max outboard engine. The Pantera's were nice boats, with a 150hp motor you might be a little doggy out of the hole though, that boat was rated for a 200. Enjoy.

opinion of Johnny Morris rods for BPS
I've never fished with one but have been in BPS, picked one up a few times and toyed with it. Very light, nice feeling rod. Beyond that though I can't comment on how they fish.

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
If you come to St Louis, the Cardinals dominate a lot of conversations whether they're in the series or not. ;D OK, I'm eating crow. I didn't think the birds could get R done. Man was I WRONG! Between Reyes major pitching outing in the first game, Ecksteins huge pickup in play, Weavers incredible pitching and my favorite Players, Scott Rolens big bat towards the end there I'm just amazed. That was truely a team effort and not done on the back of Pujols. MY CONGRADULATIONS TO THE CARDINALS. I'm glad this series and playoffs are over, these nite games were getting difficult to stay up for. I'm petitioning the MLB for at least 2 WS day games from now on to bring back tradition. Who's with me?

Rust proof hinges
Cabela's sells both an aluminum piano type hinge and a SS. They're 6 foot long but can be cut to whatever you length you want.

Trailer hitch help
You can do the U-haul thing or install it yourself. Most of the Reese or Hidden Hitch hitches out there usually bolt up to existing holes in the frame and the instructions aren't too difficult to follow.

Fishin' Buddy Locators
A friend of mine had the bottomline version of those. It was OK for what it was. I broke after about 2 years use.

Anvantage Low Profile or Large BC
If my hands weren't in such bad shape I'd throw Rounds almost exclusively or the hybrids like the Ultra Mag XL Plus. I've used rounds so long I'm just used to them in my hands. I've gone to low profiles out of necessity.

boat pulling to right
OK, I did a little search and see you're running an '86 Skeeter. A couple things you'll need to consider. First off is the condition of the steering system. Has it ever been changed and what's in it now. If it's old you'll want to replace it with a NFB system. 2nd, and this might be bad is that your hull may have a hook in it due to a poorly fitting trailer or one with a bad bunk. I've never heard of a trim tab being out of adjustment enough to want to cause the wheel to get yanked out of your hand and to the right. As long as it was set straight forward and you're getting that kind of torque I've got to think you've got some other problem.

Too many dinks, and trying to make a difference
The state of Missouri was one of the first in the country to impliment a size limit (15") on Black bass in a few of it's lakes in the mid 70's. Fisherman and resort owners went nuts. All the fears of guys not catching a single keeper bass in a weekend may have ruined a trip or two in the initial years but they also reaped the rewards in the many years since. Missouri manages it's game and fish resources for overall quality and thus has no real trophy lakes or hunting areas. While it's been rare to see a slot limit in Missouri the length limits are vigorously enforced and modified as the fish population changes. This is basically done by electroshocking in eithe the spring or more preferably in the fall. I can't help you out on PA's problems but if the 15" size limit is a fairly new rule you need to give it time to work. In a state with a shorter growing season like PA has, it might take 3 or 4 years for the effects to become noticeable. When they do you'll probably want to write the state a letter of thanks.

What is up with BASS?
It's difficult to tell but ABC/ESPN just bought into Nascar rights for a very large sum of money. I'm wondering how long the bloom stays on the Bassmaster rose now that they got hooked up with a big Kahuna.

Steering Cable Maintenance?
Well, they're not cheap. You're looking at around $1000 for a system if you install it yourself. The advantages far outweigh any disadvantages. Solid, NFB steering with no engine torque felt in the wheel at all. No cable to worry about rusting or keeping clean and lubed. A whole lot easier to install than trying to pull a pair of steering cables through the boat.

Time for new trolling motor
Yes, the flat pedal and thin cable make the thing attractive along with being able to move that thing anywhere in the boat with the 16ft long cable but believe me, the first time you move up to the bank to unsnag a lure from a tree or get yourself undone from a snag on a rocky bottom and the winds pushing you into shore you're going to find out fast, just how slow that TM turns. I can't tell you how many times I had to manually reach down and turn the the head in an emergency situation as I was moving into shallow water and trying to keep from running aground. If they could get the head turning speeds up I'd definitely think about using another one but as it is, I wouldn't touch one again.

Time for new trolling motor
Another thumbs down for the power drive. The thing turns waaay too slow and I'm was never very thrilled about the deployment method they used. Get a cable control job. You can pick up one of the new Edge series for around $450 or if you've got money to burn, a Maxxum.
