Centrifugal 6-pin Brakes, Advantages and Disadvantages?
IMO, centrifugal braking reels are easier to cast without backlash than a mag only reel. Unless you're speaking of Daiwa's mag braking which works completely differently than everybody elses. Ultimately you still have to teach your thumb how to properly spool the reel during a cast regardless of which type of braking system you get unless you go with one of the new dual braking models. Those are virtually thumbsfree casting.

anyone that knows alot bout jack plates
You don't increase the speed by sticking the motor deeper into the water. He first needs some numbers, like engine height and tach readings at WOT before any kind of suggestions are made. He's gone from a stroked 150hp down to a 115. He's clearly not getting bow lift and the whole hull is draggin in the water causing the low speed. He needs to determine why there's no lift first. A 115, while not max hp for that hull should at least be able to lift the nose of that boat better than what he's getting.

BTW, you are trimming the motor up after the boat has started to plane out after the holeshot right?

A 25" shaft isn't going to help you. It's quite clear you're failing to get sufficient lift in the bow. Whether that's due to a hooked hull, waterlogged stringers or a really bad engine height setup/prop selection is impossible to tell with the info you've given us. BTW, the max HP on that boat is at least 150hp so you're already under horsepowered to begin with. What kind of RPM numbers are you running with that boat a WOT? What are these props you're running? You'll need numbers along with current settings on the engine height before anybody can start telling you what to do.

ABU Garcia Record
Silky smooth and built like a tank. They're heavy though and I don't see many applications beyond the 40 series for bass fishing because of the weight factor.

Anyone still use Abu round reels?
Nobody uses them anymore.

Student loan question
I'm afraid the banks have rules they must follow in order to be apart of the student loan program. I'm also sure that the money going to the college so any outstanding debts owed are paid is a part of that. Perhaps you can scrape up enough money between now and then (you've got at least 2 months) to at least make a deal with a renter to pay the up front rent with the remaining to follow. You'll need to show proof of your Student loan monies along with proof that the entire amount of that loan will be dispersed to you.

Student loan question
First you have to fill out a FAFSA loan form. If you're considered a dependant of your parents they'll also have to file. My son was eligible though he paid his own tuition this semester. Next semester he'll have to take a loan. Monies from the participating bank are deposited to the school with withdrawals made to pay for your tuition, books and misc. fees. The remaining, if any is distributed to you.

Any tips or things to be aware of when buying a used baitcasting reel?
take any baitcaster and turn the spool tension knob all the way off till it's almost about to come off the side of the reel. Now move the spool back and forth on the reel and notice the play it has. Now start turning the spool tension knob back clockwise to tighten it. Turn it slowly until the spool will no longer move from side to side any more.

Any tips or things to be aware of when buying a used baitcasting reel?
If you have the ability to test drive the reel before buying the only thing you really need to question is whether the reel has been used in SW before. If the answer is yes, run, fast and far away. I don't care how well the owner claims he took care of it after SW usage, I've been burned enough times to know better. And that especially goes for Shimano's that have seen salt water usage.

Would it be a waste to have 2 same rods, different ratio reels??
I have a pair of 6'6" All Star Titaniums that are my bread and butter soft plastic/jig rods. Patriarchs mounted on them and I might add a third as a Spinnerbait rod selling a IM10X All Star I have. The action and feel of that particular rod, the AST 786 is so comfortable I just love using the rod. If the rod works well for you getting a second wouldn't be a bad idea.

Bass Fishing On CBS
The show ran from 1-2:30 CST. The DirecTV program guide indicated it only ran from 1-2. At 2 the guide asked if I wanted to record the College football show at 2. I said no and the DVR shut off for the last 1/2 hour of the program. What kind of goofy **** was that? : Didn't miss much. Pretty much another typical fishing tournament broadcast just without the meat show for a weigh in.

So which trolling motor batteries do you guys like?
Same here. I usually get around 3-4 years out of a pair.

Friendly reminder about your tires
The reason truck/SUV drivers have as many accidents as they do in winter driving conditions has more to do with driving speeds too high for the road conditions and not about tires. In fact, it's the thought that the tires they have allows them to deny physics and drive too fast on snowy roads that gets them in trouble. If I lived in a area where the threat of snow was more prevalent I'd probably invest in snow tires. As it is, with only a few snowy conditions throughout a typical season I'd just as soon drive my way through it.

Inspecting the reel in person before you purchase? Make sure the thing is working correctly.

All Star P783C Fast Light
All Stars are a real Sleeper, especially the Platinum series which is actually the old Titanium series rods with Fuji guides instead of the Titanium ones. The 783 series was actually known as the topwater special rod. Don't let the light power rating fool you, the action is actually Ex-fast. They had a Zell Rowland sig series as well in that action. You can use it for topwater and it works great but I've found that that rod is an outstanding jerkbait rod. Enjoy.

History of tournaments
Just out of curiosity Glenn. It seems rather weird that the state of Washington would even have a club devoted to bass fishing that far back. I only say that by asking, is the LM bass indigenous to the state? Were there lakes there that had been stocked or were the fish naturally present?

Aluminum boat vs Fiberglass
Submerged wood isn't really that big of an issue for a fiberglass boat. It's usually soft and rather blunt along with giving some if it's struck. Rocks, OTOH, are a whole nuther story. If you're looking at a abundantly soft bottom river with some wood debris in it a fiberglass boat is fine. If it's a rocky bottom river that you'll be running around in I think I'd go aluminum.

estimated price for jon boat modification
You're looking for carpeting for use in a marine applications, specifically bass boats. While both Lowes and HD sell an outdoor type carpet that is doable, you'll find it's not the ideal carpet by any means. Mostly because it's a loop style carpet. Why is that bad? Lay a rod down on the deck with a treble hook crankbait on it and then try and pick the rod back up. Invariably the hooks have snagged and extracting them without tearing the carpet is nearly impossible and often, a run will be created where you surgically removed the bait from the carpet. Most of the bass boat carpets sold by a couple of the internet companies along with BPS and Cabela's are loopless carpet.

Looking for Opinions on a Trolling Motor...
As I've said before, the Power drive TMs are a great idea that MK never refined for real bass fishing situations. They make a great Open water TM or if you're fishing a TM only lake, otherwise, the head turning speeds, along with some other issues make them a poor choice for bass fishing unless you want to tolerate their downsides.
