Left vs right handed baitcasters
I switched to lefties many years ago due to carpal tunnel in my left hand. never went back. it just makes sense to have the rod in your dominate hand.

Battery needs trickle charger
most chargers will keep your battery charged if left plugged in. the key is to fully charge your battery as soon as you can after use. you can in plug the charger and check it every few weeks.

Jetski vs boat
hey Slonezp, you'll know what I'm talking about when I say this is the very reason I have not fished on the Chain in 10 years. got tired of getting off the water by 10 am because of the kids on these things. 100.00 per year for a permit only to be ticked off trying to do a little fishing in peace.

Tow capacity
I pulled my Crestliner VT 19 and my PT 18 with a Grand Cherokee with an add on hitch. never had a problem. now I have a Dodge Durango with the tow package and I can't tell the difference.

Bow and console fish finders
I have two HDS 9 touch's with mapping, but I admit I rarely use the gps on the bow. I usually fish smaller lakes that I know. I like having it but depending on the waters you fish, you can get by with mapping on the console.

Winter tips
stay home, stay warm. I'm too old for that now. I remember fishing in some good snow storms, but these old bones just can't take it any more.

Fish finders how many, size and where
your going with those units as a newbie? are you going to fish tournaments? I'm happy with two 9" touch units. I wouldn't get over your head until you learn how to use them. your talking a lot of money.

DurasafeElock
I have them on my bow and console units. they are on Dek-It mounts but I had them on Rams on my last boat. they also make E-Locks for the ram mounts. anything can be stolen but they would have to break the unit to get the lock off. I travel without my cover with my units on the boat and have them for when I'm gassing up. I think a thief would probably pass it up and look for an easier unit to steal.

The cost of fishing?
can't put a price on something you love doing. sometimes I wonder what I would do with all the money I have spent over the last 45 years. spent countless hours with my son and now my grandson. teaching them not only how to fish, but to respect and enjoy everything nature has to offer. how can you put a price tag on that?

B.O.E. electronics and marine?
I bought two HDS 9 touch's from them in the last two years. great deals and I haven't heard anything bad about them.

Humminbird mounts
not as expensive as the heavy duty Ram mounts. 80.00 for Dek-It mount. over a hundred for the Ram.
-
Humminbird mounts
if you have room I would recommend a Dek-It mount. I have one for bow and console.

Multiple units???
I have always had a unit on the bow and console. mine are linked but hasn't really changed anything. having a unit only at the console can cause headaches. you will be reading what's under the boat 16,17,18 feet away. if you mainly fish the banks then you might get away with one unit. linking the units has advantages, but more so for the tournament angler. your going to spend the same amount of time looking at either unit. most of us will look at the bow unit much more because that's where we are most of the time. for trollers, a bow unit isn't as useful. can't see how one could be more productive by looking less.

Show your ride...
I have one 10' Talon on my PT18. didn't want more wholes in my transom. went with the sandwich bracket.

towing with a small suv?
a few years ago I pulled my VT 19 with a Ford Edge. never had a problem. a 16' tin shouldn't be a problem.

Stretching Flourocarbon
I tried flouro and didn't like it. too much memory for me. I use braid and co poly. I think it's something in your hook set and not the line. I can remember when everyone used mono because that's all we had. hook sets were not a problem. I don't understand what kind of sensitivity your expecting on slack line. if fishing with jigs on slack line you need to watch your line for any movement. are you losing fish after the hook set or on the hook set itself? maybe your setting the hook too late.

Minn Kota rope cord
my fortrex is still new so my cord is fine for now. I like the G-Force handle but not the price. went to Home Depot lawnmower dept. same handle with a different label. 7.00.

Jackplate
depends on what you want. manual or hydraulic? big difference in price. what size? they come in 4-12". what boat? most tin boats will void the warranty if you add a jp. Ranger will add one only from the factory.

Rod holders/storage for fish and ski
that's one problem with fish and ski's. the floor locker for ski's is about the only place to store rods. use rod covers so they don't tangle. easier to find storage for tackle, etc. I bought a fish and ski on impulse many years ago. still remember how much I hated it for the one season I owned it. do you really want to store rods on the deck for anyone to steal? a pic of your boat layout would help.

Worth adding jackplate for installing Minn Kota Talons?
I have a Talon without a jp. sandwich bracket will be fine.

Favorite Electronic Mounts
I have had Ram's and had no problems. on my new boat I went with DekIt mounts on the bow and console. you do need room for them. the one advantage for the Ram is you can turn it which ever way you want. there are better Ram like mounts but I can't see spending 300.00 for one. just my opinion.

First bass boat
looks ok. price is a bit high imo. with a boat that old you should check everything, including having a marine mechanic check the motor.

A little annoyed at Lund
can't understand Lund's thinking on this one. a horn is standard on just about every boat. not like it's a high priced item. my boat came with a horn and if I put my ear really close, I can actually hear it.

Triton aluminum bass boats
learning to drive a tin won't be the same as a high performance glass boat. you won't have to worry about chine walking which is a danger to all but especially to newbies. you'll be ok as long as you take your time while learning how to handle your boat. stay away from rough water until you learn how to drive in it. everyone goes through this learning process. that Triton is a great boat.
