  1. I have always unplugged my tm when charging. my new boat came with the Fortrex hard wired. no problems.
  2. porpoising so bad they are undrivable. did everything to try to fix the problem. there are now eight wedges. porpoising much less but still not right. I talked to several owners and their boats are also going back. seems that the transom is built too flat. my boat was at the dealer all spring and early summer, so they are letting me fish the rest of the season then building me a new one. as for fishing, the boat is awesome. huge decks and storage. 33 gal. livewell is nice.
  3. sure hope they test them before putting them on dealers floor. seems like they didn't on the PT 18's. they are making it right for me and others, but they have to be taking a beating on building new 2018's to replace the 2017's, but that Basshawk looks really nice.
  4. Lund is one of the few boats I would buy sight unseen. I would put them at the top of the list for tins. the only problem is they have a high price tag. there are other boats that fish just as good, but I have seen 50 year old Lunds still going strong.
  5. most boats built today are fine, but mistakes happen. take my new Crestliner PT18. great looking boat with 3 huge rod lockers and more storage than I need. the problem is the boat has really bad porpoising problems. not just my boat but all the PT 18's. luckily, crestliner has great cs. they are letting me use my boat till the end of the season and then building me a new 2018 boat. getting a boat that fills your needs is very important. but customer service is just as important. I hear stories about some other boat brands that have problems and the owners have nothing but trouble having their problems dealt with. don't know much about the storm but you won't go wrong with Crestliner.
  6. do it after your last outing. I usually do mine at the end of Oct. at my age I can't take the cold like I used to. I used to fish til the ice forced me to shut it down.
  7. I was a life long motorguide user. last year I got a new X5. first trip out and the direction arrow went crazy. took the head off and could not fix it. called MG and they told me there was no fix yet. I was surprised at the cheap plastic parts inside the head. bought a new boat this year with a Fortrex. love the motor. MG should never have discontinued the Tour models.
  8. beautiful mount. wish more people would do this.
  9. like everyone says, once you have them, you will never switch back.
  10. Lowrance HDS 9 touch gen 2 on console and bow. side scan on console unit. no need for more.
  11. I had a VT 19 for six years and never had a single problem. TC is the same boat without some of the bells and whistles. personally, I would opt for the VT. I think the TC is rated for 115 while the VT is 150. sold mine for a PT 18 which I'll put up against the Ranger, Tracker, or any other tin except for maybe Xpress.
  12. in my state there is a 9% sales tax. buying online can saves me big money. yeah, I guess it's tax evasion. let them come and get me.
  13. the best time is when they come out with a new model. when the Lowrance gen 3's came out I bought two gen 2's for a great price. other than that I would be on the lookout for sales from BPS or sponsors here.
  14. I Slick Mist after every outing. for hard spots on the motor I use vinegar and water. works great but will also remove wax so I follow with Slick Mist.
  15. the HDS units are great. they will come with either navionics or base mapping. with the pro pkg. I would assume they have full mapping.
  16. I wouldn't pay attention to any of that. just buy the highest thrust motor you can afford. you can always dial it down. better to have the power and not need it. there will always be times when you will be glad you had the extra power.
  17. the truth is that before electronics, most fishermen didn't know squat about structure and cover and how fish relate to it. Buck Perry wasn't only about "spoonplugging". he was the father of structure fishing. the problem is you can't fish structure without electronics. yes. fish were caught before graphs but I would say most were caught shallow where electronics are less important.
  18. I have two Gen 2's and wouldn't replace them now. not a big enough difference for the extra cost although some will disagree.
  19. I believe the Hook series are stand alone units. can not be networked.
  20. my initials
  21. getting a little silly. some people won't spend that much for a boat. I'm sure they will sell because some people simply must have the biggest and most expensive equipment. if I added one to my console, I'm not sure I would even be able to see over it. looks great but not for that kind of coin. where does it end?
  22. total scan will give you side scan and down scan as well as broadband. the transducer is really big if your thinking about using it on the tm. the only problem I have read about is the total scan won't read at higher speeds on some boats. really good unit for the price.
  23. removing and adding a transducer can be a real headache on many boats. can't see doing that every year.
  24. I live in the Chicago burbs also. been storing my boat outside for forty years. no problem with the transducer. the weather won't even hurt the unit if it's mounted in the console.
  25. no jp. Talon is mounted on a sandwich bracket. didn't want to add holes in my transom.
