  1. sounds good, but do you really need it? the pro's and guides have more electronics than most of us and they seem to do fine with one battery. I just don't like the idea of the extra weight and the room you have to give up if moving it up front.
  2. huge sale on Frabil til Saturday at fieldsupply.com
  3. I have a set of Cabela's guidewear. great suit, but a little to much for summer heat. just got Frabil F1 jacket and bibs for 69.00. Simm's, Huk, Under armour not an option. I'm sure they are good suits but I'm not paying those crazy prices.
  4. if you want music in my boat, bring your headphones. I tried listening to music years ago and found myself singing and tapping my feet to the beat and missing fish. I could wait till I'm back in my truck and listen on the way home.
  5. check the warranty. some will not let you add a jack plate, but I doubt it will have much affect except for maybe a little speed.
  6. will it some day be a collectors item?
  7. they do not come with the sandwich or jack plate bracket. you can mount directly to the transom without paying for the other brackets. I don't want to got into the transom so I ordered a 10' Talon with the sandwich bracket. you can fine them for 200.00 - 250.00. 750.00 for two is a bit high. is that for installation also?
  8. ss transducer will plug directly into an hds 9 gen 2 and 3. no need for the box.
  9. I'm putting both of my 9" units (console and bow) on Dekit mounts.
  10. I have had more than a few spinnerbaits completely destroyed by bowfins.
  11. just ss bolts and lock nuts. I'm never out of sight of my boat for more than a few minutes. when staying at a motel, I remove them. if someone somehow gets my units, lots of luck. those e-locks are not easy to get off without damaging the unit.
  12. yeah, that smallie is a pig. I just wonder if he would have caught that fish with a shakeyhead or a plain round jig and the same bait? I would be convinced if I could see someone fishing using both of these rigs and one out fishing the other by a large margin. not knocking the Ned rig or any other rig. after seeing how fishing has evolved over my 67 years, I see us spending more time playing with our electronics, programing our trolling motor and rigging for that special technique. I just want to keep it as simple as possible and spend more time with my lure in the water.
  13. I leave mine on. I have e-locks on the ram and the graph.
  14. really nice rig. the only thing I don't like is the front livewell. congrats.
  15. you shouldn't have any problems with rain. check your state regs. in many states if these PFD's are not being worn, they do not count as having one so you would still need a regular one to be legal. I only wear mine when moving with the outboard so they are pretty useless to me. if you fish wearing a PFD on then they are probably the most comfortable.
  16. sorry, but this old timer is totally confused by all these different rigs. plus special rods to fish them. I have never tried any of them. my go to bait when the bite is tough is a 1/8 oz ball head or football head with a four inch finesse worm. I have caught everything from bluegill to muskie. never needed to change to any other rig. yeah, I know I'm behind the times, but it's easier to just hook a worm on a jig and be done with it, instead of trying to decide which of the many rigs to go with. personally, I don't think the fish really care. put the lure where the fish are and you will catch. when I need to keep the lure off the bottom I will go with a drop shot. if you feel confident in a certain rig, great, but I think it's more about the confidence then the rig itself.
  17. die hard MG for many years. last year I replaced my 5 speed with an X5. 10 minutes into my first time and the directional arrow broke. took it apart. really cheap plastic gears. couldn't fix it. lots of people with the same problem. just ordered a new boat with a Fortrex. I'm done with MG. the Tour models were the best.
  18. I refuse to spend 15-20 bucks for a crankbait. Norman DD14 and mostly Bandit 300.

I have been using Silver Thread Excalibur co-poly for years. very little stretch, and one tough line. a little hard to find. I get it from TW. I use it for almost everything, not just chatterbaits. I fish rocks a lot and no other line holds up like this.
  20. everything he wrote about structure has not changed over the years. best info you can get. many years ago my cousin and I would go out with a rented row boat and my 10hp merc. trolled wide open with the 4' Buck Perry rod, No Bow line and the spoon plugs. caught hundreds of fish, mostly pike. then I grew up and bought my first bass boat. never caught that many fish per year again. oh for the good old days.
  21. people think that muskies are harder to catch. they are not. it's just that there are not as many in a given lake. harder to find so more casting and less catching. my cousin and I would go to Boulder Junction and fish with Joe Bucher. he knows many lakes that are filled with pike' but none that have loads of muskies, and lakes will have good muskie fishing or good pike, but not both.
  22. I have caught many pike with topwater lures over the years while fishing for bass. pike will hit any lure you can throw. I have seen pike take baby ducks swimming in shallow water. I have caught pike with another pike sticking out of their mouths. they fear nothing except for maybe a bigger pike.
  23. I don't use mono. I have been using Silver Thread Excalibur co-polymere. very low stretch and less abrasive than any other line I have used. I fish rocks often and this line really holds up. difficult to find. Tackle Warehouse is the only place I can still get it. I use it on spinning as well as casting reels.
  24. well, that's one way to fix the leak.
  25. the transducer for the HDI 9 is the same as the HDI 7. broadband and down scan. you need the LSS 2 transducer for side scan. for the gen 2 HDI 9 you don't need the lss box.
