  1. I've noticed that I break off or chip the lips of my Lucky Craft cranks more than other brands. I didn't give it much thought until I saw on "Day on the lake" TV show this saturday that the Pro had the same problem. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
  2. Picked up a few Chatterbaits for $2.50 SK Pro spinnerbaits $2.00 Riverside "Flukes" $1.00
  3. Well, I know guys that are quite good at skipping with a baitcaster. I watched flechero when we fished together last year at Lake Fork. For him, it seemed second nature. For me it would be challenging. I fish all soft plastics with spinning tackle and with this equipment am "reasonably" adept at the technique. There is no reason for me to change and no particular reason for you, either! I agree with RW. I have to admit that I was one that thought that spinning oufits were a 2nd class outfit but now I find myself using them more often. I like a 5.5' spinning rod for skipping. Use the right tool for the right job. 8-)
  4. I'll bring every lure I own, but always end up fishing just two of them.
  5. Without getting too mushy, my favorite fishing memories are about the people I've fished with not he fish I caught. But then again I've yet to catch a 10# + Bass! lol
  6. I fish Lake Eire and her tribs and I would have to agree that Smallies are a great fighting fish. I have caught many Rock Bass along Eire's breakwalls that really put up a fight. If they grew as big as Eire's Small Mouths I have to think about getting a bigger boat lol. If i'm fishing the rivers I'd have to say Steelhead and Salmon can put on a real air show. As for my vote I picked "Carp" just because of their intial run. I don't care what equipment I'm using or how hard I have the drag set, when a carp hits the bait there is no stopping them from running 30' down stream.
  7. All my Bass rods are one piece. My Steelhead rods are a different story. I have a few 2 piece and 3 piece fly & spinning rods that are 10'+ and have never had a problem with them comming apart, although taking the apart sometimes be a issue. If storage or transporting them is not a problem I would stick with one piece rods. JMHO
  8. I have always been a Shimano man but I was talked into a Diawa Tierra by a fisherman I respect. I have to admit that this is the best spinning reel I have ever used. It's smooth, great drag and line twists are not an issue. I know you are set on a 2500 but look into the 3000. It has the same frame but the spool is a bit larger. I understand you are looking at the Exceler but a good friend of mine has the 3000 Exceler and it's his #1 spinning reel for Seelhead as well as bass.
  9. Before you buy the LH baitcaster think about palmming the reel. I'm right handed and if I cast with my right hand I have to hold on to the reel with my left hand so that I can release my grip with my right hand so that I can palm the reel with my right hand when I crank with my left hand. I know this sounds confusing but give it a try. I think you will find that it takes less steps to use a RH reel. I would suggest getting a RH reel with a Flipping switch. JMHO
  10. If you don't have a reel for flipping & pitching I would give it a try. That reel has the Quantum flipping switch and a dial brake system that would come in handy when Flipping.
  11. I have used them as trailers for the last year or so. I like them better than traditional trailer hooks because they stay in place. I have not had much problems with them snagging any more than other trailer hooks. I use them on spinnerbaits, Buzzbaits and Chatterbaits. But my favorite use for them is on Flukes and Horny Toad type frogs. I attach them to the EWG hook then skin hook it to the tail of the Fluke or one leg of a frog bait. Because it's attached by a cord it dose not effect the action of the bait. Do a search, I know there are sites on the web that show how to rig the G-Stinger to different baits. I have found that the 1/0 size works the best for most applications. Good Luck!
  12. I asked this question because I was looking for videos that would help me with different lure techniques for different conditions and seasons. I guess it would be smart to get the videos from different pro's that are known for fishing one type of bait. KVD=spinnerbaits & rojas=frogs
  13. Any In-Fisherman Bass series KVD's three DVD set ( Spinnerbait, Pitching to heavey hitters & Changing conditions) BPS Critical concepts ? I have Gerald Swindel's swimming a jig, it's OK but would like to see other in this series.
  14. Strong + Ultra sharp + Stays sharp = Gammakatsu How do Owner & VMC compare? I'm thinking I should give them a try. Any of these treble hooks increase your hook-up to landing ratio on lipless cranks?
  15. When using backing how much of the spool should be filled with backing? What is the best way of judging how to leave enough room so that you can put on 80-100 yards of the line you want to fish with but not over filling or under filling the spool?
  16. I agree, switching hands that many times would be defeat the purpose of using a left hand reel. I thought using a LH reel would be good for flipping & pitching but did not take into account palming the reel. The only time a LH reel might come in handy is with a short pistol grip rod because I tend not to palm the reel with that type of handle.
  17. St. Croix Avid 6'6" MH mod crankbait rod St. Croix Avid 6'9" MXF
  18. I spooled up some 15# and used it on my soft plastics rod this past week in Florida. In the past I have only used flouro as a leader because I thought it was too stiff. This past week has made a convert out of me. I plan on trying it on all of my set ups except my topwater and frog rods. The flouro looked a little stiff in my slack line but I didn't notice the stiffness when I cast. This line seemed to have all the qualities of other flouros but not the stiffness of others. I agree that it is best not to overfill the spool and keep it about 1/4 " from the top. I understand that it will get even softer with age and because it is so durable you can keep in on your reel much longer than mono. As for the cost I feel it is a bit high but the fact that you don't have to re-spool as much this helps defray the cost.
  19. x2 or use as is. I don't think it's worth the all the hassle to repaint a cheap lure. Those "ugly" lures sometimes catch even better! R-Traps are one of those lures that will catch fish reguardless of what condition they are in. Some guys like to scuff them up right out of the box. Put some Gammakatsu hooks on and give it a try. I have found that you can have two of the exact same traps and one will outfish the other 10:1. Test it to see if it runs true and give it a try.
  20. BPS had a three disc set that includer "Pitching to heavy hitters". The others are KVD spinnerbaits & KVD Changing conditions DVD's. This three disc set was for the price of one.
  21. In the past I have only used Fluorocarbons for leader material. I'm interested in giving Trilene 100% Fluoro a try on my bait casters. I mostly fish with Yozuri Hybrid Extra Soft #12 at this time. How would the Trilene compare to this Copoly? If I go with the Trilene I will need to use at least #15. The water I will be fishing is stained so viz is not the most important factor but abrasion/sensativity/castability are my main concerns.
  22. St. Croix Avid's make up most of my rod collection. I have not fished with a G. Loomis yet but from what I've seen on this forum they are top of the line. That being said, the best fisherman I know only fishes with older Berkley Series One rods. As always, catching fish has more to do with the fisherman than his equipment.
  23. I'll be going down to central florida the first week of Febuary and would like some advice on what swimbaits to use, The lake I'll be fishing is mostly shallow with much grass and bullrush in 3 to 5 feet of water. the deepest part of the lake is about 15 feet out in the open water.
  24. St Croix Avid AC68MXF, the only problem is that it's also my favorite weightless soft plastic rod. If I have that rod rigged with a Senko or Fat Ika I 'll use my Avid AC66MHM for Lipless cranks.
