  1. I went to the BR fishing log and tried to export it into excel but could not get it to work. Are you guys able to get into a program that you can type in your info or do you just print and fill in by hand?
  2. I've always used a shad colored fluke (silver or grey) but picked up a six pack of riverside soft jerkbaits with a purple back with grey sides and a black "shad" dot on the side for $1 T Wal-Mart. I will give them a try this spring.
  3. Great picture! That's what was ment by a picture is worth a 1000 words. When I think of my dad's tackle box a big brown Kennedy box that folds out with three trays on each side and a large storage space at the bottom. He gave me that box a few years back and I use it to store some of my collectable lures.
  4. I have not kept a journal of my fishing trips in the past but I think that I'll start this season. My dad has talked about keeping records but I never knew how long he has been doing it. I have learned that he has records as far back as the late 50's. I can't even begin to say how valuable this information can be on many levels. He kept information on where, what and how of each trip along with weather and lake conditions. I would be interested in hearing from other anglers if they keep a journal and what information they keep.
  5. I find that stren stays round and Power Pro will flaten out like ribbon.
  6. Confidence in your equipment and baits is directly linked to catching fish. Some guys like to match the color of the rod & reel. If you think something will help you catch fish use it. I have thought about getting a split grip spinning rod but would not buy a split grip casting rod. Don't ask me why, I really don't know myself.
  7. I also fish mostly Curados on St Croix rods and have two set ups that I like for cranks & Traps. Curado-B 6.2:1 on a AC66MHM for crankbaits Curado-D 7.1:1 on a AC68MXF for Weightless plastics/Lipless cranks If I had to pick one for both types of cranks I would go with Curado-D 7.1:1 on the AC66MHM Crankbait rod. JMHO
  8. For plastics match the color of the bottom of the water your fishing.I do this because most bait fish are silver and reflect the bottom color. Watermellon, pumpkin and black are what I use most but white or silver for plastice like flukes. For hard baits and baits with skirts I use chrome on sunny days & in clear water. White/chart for stained water and cloud cover. Dark for muddy water and low light conditions. That being said I know some better fishermen than me who only use black plastic worms and chrome /blue Rat-l-traps. Most of the time it's the fisherman not the bait that catches fish.

  10. You may want to down size to 1/4 oz baits in transparent color patterens when using reaction baits.
  11. I agree with the other posts about going "lite" but don't forget to use your favorite fast moving reaction bait such as spinnerbaits and lipless cranks.

I've been fishing the Fat Ika for a few years now and it has become my go to bait in many different situations. The funny thing is that most bait shops don't sell them. Dicks Sporting goods is the only store that always has them, and they only have one or two colors. I guess it's a good thing because it's like I have my own secret bait in ths area.
  13. 7" worm. I think this bait can be rigged in so many ways that it can be used in just about pattern.

They look the same but the saltwater version has different colors. I don't see any reason why they won't work in fresh water.
  15. Soft plastics= Fat Ika, 5" senko & Yum Baby Craw(river Smallies) Cranks= Rat-l-Traps, LC SKT-mini & Norman Fat Boy Jerks= Pointer 78, AC Shinner & Super Flukes Jigs/other= Chatterbaits and Hair jigs Tops= Chugbugs, Pop-r's & Booya buzz baits. Spinner's= T-1 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 oz.
  16. I think I know why the LC Pointer 100 TRS was $9.97. I checked out the Table Rock Shad color and it's chartreuse with a purple back. The lures called Table Rock Shad at Gander Mt. are white with glitter and a purple back. Is this a mistake or did LC change the color?
  17. Stren Superbraid is round and keeps it's shape and color. I like the 50# & 65# for froggs and flipping.
  18. 10 # Berkley 100 % Flouro Pro Grade. It has all the qualities of Flouro but casts like Co-poly.
  19. I was at a Gander Mt and they have LC Pointer 100 SP in Table Rock Shad ( White with silver glitter and a purple back) for $9.97. All the other Pointer models were between $14.99 & $19.99. Other size Pointers in Table Rock Shad were full price. I would like to know if anyone likes this color and if you have a reason why this color in this one size is discounted.
  20. Hi, my name is gary and I have not bought a fishing lure in two days. Beware of the Bait Monkey if you don't want to be standing up in front of a group of people and muttering these same words. :'( Your gear is just fine, go fishing and have fun!
  21. I picked up a Shimano Castic with a instagauge flipping switch. I fish with Shimano reels most of the time and this reel has all the qualities of my other shimano's. The only thing that I'm having a hard time getting use to is the flipping switch location. The problem is when I palm the reel my hand bumps the switch and will stop or free up the spool. I would like to hear what others are using, or if you rather pitch/flip with a baitcaster without a flipping switch.
  22. I have a 14 ' Myers Aluminum boat with a 12 volt 55# min-kota transum mount. I would like to add a bow mount and would like any suggestions. I don't want another transum mount for the bow so please only give drop in type mount suggestions. Thanks
  23. LC cranks and sticks for shallow and mid depth. Norman DD-22 for deep water.
  24. The two LC lures that I have broke the lip on are the Signature series square bill cranks. Both times a corner chiped off. I thought about taking them back to the local tackle shop because they are good about returns, but I trimed the other corner and made a cofin shaped bill and they still catch fish. I fish those baits around rip-rap so that may be the reason they chip but as I said in my original post other makes of cranks I use don't seem to chip as easy. I will still use the LC lures because the out fish all my other cranks most of the time. From the other replys it looks like this is not a common problem.
  25. I have not tried Sunline because of the cost ($35) but really like the new Berkley 100% Flouro Pro Grade. The 15# has all the advantages of other flouro's but casts as nice as most co-polys.
