On a 2D sonar I always assumed the transducer would in the top middle of the screen-since sound moves out in all directions in an approximate cone shape from all sides of the tranducer. And as I understand it, a bright red signal could be a hard object on the edge of the cone and not just directly under the transducer-unlike what the narrator of the video says. Am I wrong in this?

This is probably true. I'll be happy to take you fishing if you ever come to central Illinois-if the bloody weather ever warms up. No one uses water in other parts of the house when I'm "tweaking" the valves. The house is probably 50 years old. It's the darndest thing. I feel like I'm trying to open a safe-moving the dial (valves) back and forth. The water pressure does not seem to be evenly incremental (as I'm adjusting the valves open or closed). I cannot simply turn the hot to the proper flow rate and then adjust the cold to make the average temperature appropriate. It's seldom that simple. If I "over-adjust," it seems like I have to start all over again. I cannot simply back off one or the other. .

When I take a shower at my girlfriends house, adjusting the valves for the correct level of hot and cold is rather akin to opening a combination safe. I have to turn the valves back and forth repeatedly-sometimes just a tweak and sometimes a considerable amount-and a turn from one seems to affect the flow rate of the other. It's always an exercise in frustration. I've never experienced this anywhere before. I even went so far as to replace the valves-thinking that would fix it. But nooooo, it's still a pain in the butt. Can anyone tell me what causes this? And, more importantly, if it can be done, how to fix it? Thanks in advance!

It never hurts to take high resolution pictures of the reel in its various stages of disassembly. That can save you a lot of grief later.

I am not a reel expert but whatever you get should be very sturdy-not just for when you hook a musky but the hard wear put on reel from chucking and winding those big musky baits. It will wear out a wimpy reel in a heart beat!

I don't think there's anything wrong from fishing from memory IF you don't persist once it is proven incorrect (for that particular day). I'd waste a lot of time trying to relearn everything if I ignored everything I'd already experienced.

I think I'll regift them back to the person who gave them to me (he has an small johnboat/trailer) whose tiedowns (well, everything, actually) have about had it.

This is a perfect example of why, during domestic dispute calls, at least two cops are called and they immediately separate the combatant participants from one another. Otherwise, g guy can be beating the tar out of his significant other but as soon as the cop throws him up against a wall, the claws come out of the woman and now the cop becomes the victim of two assailants.

I don't see search baits as those baits which you start with and then, afterwards, slow down. Search baits are those baits which move quickly, cover a lot of water, and intice bites from the aggressive, actively striking fish. Trolling is probably the oldest, most classic search approach.. If/once I begin catching them with a search bait, I'll continue to use this pattern as long as it holds out-assuming the fish are large enough to merit it. I don't simply start with search baits only to switch to a slower moving bait. And I don't always start with a search bait. Time of year, water and weather conditions, the body of water, mood of the fish, etc. will determine how I begin and if I change tactics.

I assume you mean behind rods/reels/baits. I guess it would have to be either sunscreen or sunglasses.

Bass are my "go to" fish probably 75 percent of the time however at certain times or in certain conditions I am not at all opposed to fish for other species. Ice fishing being one good example. In the spring when the crappie move shallow I HAVE to tie on a marabou jig and float it under a bobber. There is nothing more beautiful than a black crappie glistening like an emerald in the sunlight. Likewise, when the bluegill are spawning, I have to break out my fly rod and pursue those big brutes. Sometimes, when the bass aren't biting but something else is, I will change tactics. I'd rather catch 20 or 30 small(er) bluegill or crappie than get skunked or (maybe) one bass. It may not make me a better bass fisherman but so what. But to actually answer your question, during the 75 percent of the time when I'm not fishing for other species, bass are just so much fun. You can (often) use so many tactics to catch them and they are (often) such willing participants. I like the challenge of finding and tricking them and, of course, fighting them once I have tricked them. Although I'm still somewhat "suspicious" of tournaments (life is already too complicated for my taste), I otherwise like the culture and the paraphanalia that goes with it.

If you fish from a jet ski you might be compelled to hate yourself.
