I have never found that ultimate light baitcasting setup yet. Been looking for years and have not pulled the trigger yet. But anyway in someone’s recent similar post, one of the guys responded to me that BPS Jonny Morris has a decent lighter casting setup. The guy seem to be happy with his. I want something for 3/16 oz. - 1/4 oz. Crankbaits. More of a mod. fast tip. For smaller Rapalas. Good luck you’ll, eventually find it.

Baitcasting a couple of older Shimano Curados. Spinning and older Shimano Stratic. Honerable mention I love my Shimano Symetres which has been replace by the Nasci and they actually be better in my opinion.

It’s a good thing. The Garcia reel I wanted I had asked to get it at Christmas. I told the wife please don’t buy it if you can’t find it on sale. I would go another route. She found it at TW Thanksgiving sale. She know about TW. She has no interest about bass though.

I hear that, but I thought it was a decent deal. I could be wrong but I think the Trion, silver max, and some Okuma were all $29.99 also. Im not a big fan of DICKS. Never have what I want. Their sale revolves around buy three bags of plastics before the forth one kicks in. Don’t dig that kind of sale. I do a lot of shotgunning and use those Foot Joy Golf gloves to shoot in that about all I go there for. Im just passing it along that you certainly do not have to spend $300 for a decent finesse setup. I might be wrong but I think you can get a free hat and tee shirt if you buy the rod and reel separately.

Saw something and felt something that might work out great for a decent ML Spinning Outfit for lighter plastic presentations. I don’t really have a need for it but on a recent trip to DICK’S to buy shooting gloves I ran across a Lew’s Carbon Fire 6’8” ML spinning Rod fast action w/ 1/8 oz - 3/4 oz. (?) lure weight and Lew’s Carbon Fire Spinning reels the size 20 is what I looked at. Both the rod and reel were $39.99 each. I thought that $80 combo was a decent price. They balanced decent. DICKS looks to have a million Lew’s combos in the racks but in my opinion this pair feels better than the American hero and Mach I and II stuff they have there. I didn’t touch the Orange combo. I know opinions don’t mean much but someone needing this setup without breaking the bank should look at it. The rod might be im8 and the reel had 10 brgs. Which only means so much in the full scheme of things.

I fish both. I have a place in how I fish with both. I’m all ears to the baitcasters only as to what a perfect finesse, light setup is with a baitcaster. Serious open for suggestions. I have not found it yet. 1/8 oz. maybe getting down to 6# test. Let me know how you are successfully doing it so I can go buy that setup.

GREAT! Will probably be more productive and cheaper. Im not dissing LiveTarget, the tru to life thing is pretty cool in its own way but I’m not overly impressed. I really don’t think from my experience with tru to life baits that they work any better. Actually the opposite. My best example is with the Rapala tru life patterns. I’m a Rapala freak big time. When they first came out with the tru image on their crankbaits I was dying to get my hands on the live image bluegill and pumpkinseed. One of my favorite river patterns then and now and always will be is the original bluegill. Those live image couldn’t hold a candle to the original. If anything it seems to work well in real clear water conditions to catch channel catfish. I had to have the live smallmouth bass in an SR07 and SR08 that is all they seem to produce is catties. This situation is how it has worked for me. I’m sure others have had flip side results. LiveTarget makes some very impressive stuff for sure. Their crankbait craw patterns look like a killer but I’m reluctant to pay what they want only to be dissatisfied.

I don’t really eat fish. I’ve tried different species. I catch and release smallmouth and largemouth bass. I don’t have the desire to kill one or see one killed. I’ve had a few die on me over the years. I found a home for them. Trout are a different story. I caught and given away 1,000’s of them. I know many of people over the years that enjoy eating them. I enjoy catching them so a lot of gratification there.

Could be wrong but I don’t think the spinning version will come in moderate action. Most likely both in fast. I would agree with the flexibility of a medium with a moderate action. Would be great for 1/4 to 3/8 oz. crankbaits. Bait action increases with the bit slower rod. Hard to find a decent spinning rod for lighter crankbaits. And have a moderate action. I picked one up a few weeks ago. Went on an all out search but found it. Was between SC Walleye series and a Abu Garcia Veritas 7’ medium w/ moderate action. Abu won out. The feel was like heaven. Had to go with it. But I am and always be a SC fan. The action and quality was really what I was looking for not really the super sensitivity.

I have that 6’9” to 7’ M rod with me but to throw a bit larger plastics or weighted a bit heavier plastics. Bit heavier cover.

The ML will be just fine. The MED will be great for throwing heavier Senko styles. The Premier Series is a great series of rods. You do not have to spend $300 on a SC. Totally not necessary. The 7’ ML spin is a great rod for fishing finesse light plastics.

Sometimes in those small creeks smallie fishing can get real tough. No response to bass lures. They get a real lock jaw. Fly fishing them and live baiting (minnows or small shiners) will get it done. Use barbless hooks that helps. No shame in live bait in any situation really. Just my 2 cents.

What you can do is find what you like by shap, weight and hook size and paint them yourself. Cure them in the kitchen oven. Doesn’t have to be all that high a temp. With any kind of luck your wife or significant other will not mind. Or just do them when they are not around. Not strong of an odor.

You got to be kidding posting that BS. The guy is only giving a Hypothetical situation revolving around a few rods he got on the cheap. And if he did sell them for $20 each he still wouldn’t be ripping anyone off. Your splitting hairs here man. That wasn’t even being implied in this post. You should retract your post and what you are implying. Let’s keep it real dude. Throw me off if you don’t like it. The guy isn’t running a business. Just a fishing dude who impulsed bought something like myself and many others have done in the past.

I hear what you are saying. I went it to buy my grandsons a few things for trout fishing and found that sale again also. I have a 6’6”and a 7’ MH casting versions. Have not used them yet. Rods are immaculate condition and straight as an arrow. Something you never see from Wally World. Sure the price was right. $9.00. I’m not sure how I’m going to fit them in yet either. I’ll probably test them out by putting my existing reels on them. But I really did not need them. Keep them stowed till grandsons are a bit bigger and older? Put a $100 reel on a $9.00 rod? Can’t see doing that right now. But in all honesty without fishing them yet I think they will be a half decent rod. $9.00 I can give it away and make someone’s day.

I don’t know what you know or have experienced with soft plastics but I would not go out and buy a bunch of stuff off the cuff. And especially 1000 different brands. I know my opinion sucks but what I would do is pick a brand like Berkley and buy a couple packs each of the grubs, worms, finesse worms, lizards, craws, creatures, shads and stickbaits and fish them. They have a selection second to none. They will work. Any color you or the fish desire are there. They’ll have good action. A brand that is well proven. It won’t take long and you’ll be catching under the right conditions. Then an start to expand from that. Compare one brand to another. Compare the action of the Berkley vs. Culprit. Compare the color of Berkley to Zooms. This is just hypothetical but you get the idea. Maybe im full of bull but I’m pretty dang sure this will work.

Mo, got to thinking about your thread you started awhile ago and organized my lizard binder. I do love fishing 4”-5” lizards on the finesse side. Light T Rig or Split Shotting them. I’m no biologist by a long shot. But I found some color pics of various Pennsylvania salamanders. Cool stuff. I didn’t realize there were that many variations of salamanders and lizards here. I’m probably a guy that would say color doesn’t mean everything. Probably a small part. Not sure if bass see color and shape as we do? But anyway I pulled up the color chart of all Zoom lizards. I could find almost an exact color match of all PA Salamanders. Never thought Zoom had 1,000,000 color patterns of lizards. My color selection is not huge but they work. Thinking about expanding on some colors and doing a sort of match the hatch thing so to speak. Sorry for rambling and rehashing your old thread. But I thought it was a good post.

I’m partial to one piece rods. Bass fishing takes place on my boat so they store and travel well. I fish trout streams with fly and spinning gear. All of that breaks down even 5’6” rods. I would lean toward two piece stuff if I were in the woods I guess. I fish a lot of St. Croix Rods. Love them. Good luck.

Not a true panic box but if I'm out on the rive and it a day that is not coming together. A lot of days like that over the years. I have a few things to go to to try not to get skunked. I doubt Ike has a true panic box he has to go to. But than again I wouldn't be surprised if he had a little box on his boat that resembles a lunch box with his name on it and a few lures in it. Just to prank somebody.

I agree with what you are saying. I like him just for being different. I do enjoy watching him fish and enjoy it more when he's fishing well. His Ike Live Show is pretty funny. He is who he is. I don't idolize any athletes or bass pros but that's not to say there are ones out there that I don't like in their fields. I'm not getting sucked in on an Ike argument. I don't care that much to do that. Or truly judge people I have my own faults and quirks. Though Ike and Greg Hackney may be on different ends of the spectrum they are probably the only ones touring I would really want to fish with. Put Mark Zona right in there also but he's not touring.

No I'm down in Chesmont area. They have nothing for me. But I can get stuff the grandsons there. Items to trout fish and pond fish. I get them out bass fishing with me. They will never need to really buy anything during their lives. I might just hook that rod up with another spincaster for them. Will probably throw one of my lews bc's on it just to get a feel for it though. I'd like to give it an honest try. I really don't want to throw a $100+ reel on it. That's the drawback when you buy a rod off the cuff. Deal or no deal you need to buy a reel and they rarely go on sale. I have a feeling it will fish ok. It's certainly no Avid or Premier St. Croix, or Mojo or Bass X. It's $9.00.

I'm gonna sell all my stuff and go that direction with the cane poles. Thanks for the nudge. A psychopath I must be. Been called a lot worse. Heck it wasn't all that long ago you couldn't even buy a left handed casting reel.

I just picked up that same rod yesterday for $9.00 at Wally World clearance yellow tagged. I was planning the very same use it or maybe using it with some heavier baits on the river for Muskies. Most likely become a river rod. Basically impulsed bought it for 9 bucks. It's worth that, seems well made. Now I need to get a reel and some braid and match it up decently. That will become a project. Not sure what to pair it up with yet. They are an ugly looking rod for sure. The Wally Worlds near me basically suck as far as their fishing departments. The Power Bait selection is good and I can find smaller stuff for my grandsons there. That rod was just there for $40 within the last couple of weeks. The one i took was straight as an arrow and not a blemish on it. Good luck with yours.

Go to Case Plastics and look up Mad Toms. Mad Toms and Stone Cats are the same to me. I believe I have some still from Gitzit also. Maybe not quite so realistic as your goby but productive.
