You can launch your kayak at Flatwater Park at the foot of the Huguenot Road Bridge's southside. If you look at a map of Richmond you can find the park along the Historic James River directly south of the UR campus. This is where the kayakers launch and you can go either to the east or the west. Have fun and be safe.

Yes, you could use a boat between Flatwater and the Pony Pasture but there is no ramp to launch and you probably will not be able to take the boat over the Z-Dam. We use a raft. Just float and throw white grubs and anything else you want. Best bet is a kayak. From Bosher Dam to Flatwater, once again launching is a problem but people do fish that area in kayaks. In both cases check the river flow as getting down river is easy. Getting up river can be a challenge if the current is strong. Have fun!

First, we need some data about you in addition to introducing yourself in the Introduction Section. We need to know the following for starters: Do you drive and have a car as you need to be able to cross the river to the southside? Do you have a paper map of the city and surrounding counties? If not, we can use Google Maps. What is your favorite techniques and baits? Ever thought of joining a bass club to learn ramps, techniques, baits and other information from the members? Get back to us with the above plus any other information about yourself so we can give you some good advice. Looking forward to giving you some suggestions.

Went to my first Vertigo PT today and the PT told me I do not have the type of Vertigo that is caused by the "crystals" in the ear. I probably have the type of Vertigo that is caused by migraine headaches. Yes, that's right. A person can have a migraine and never know it. Going to a Vertigo doctor on Thursday to find out what he says. And there is nothing you can do for a migraine Vertigo episode other than to try to have less stress in your life. Time will tell.

Fishing ponds in Delaware while visiting my son and his family and so far: Caught 9 along a grass bank in one pond on Senkos and YUM Dingers and caught just one along the grass bank of another pond on a Senko while waiting to pick up the kids from school and was fishing the pond next to the bus stop before the bus arrived. Then caught three, with one being around 4 pounds, in a third pond, and yes, it was along the grass line on a YUM Dinger. So if I go out again it will be Senkos or YUM Dingers along the grass lines until that bite stops. Go out and hit the grass lines along the bank with your weedless plastics.

Fishing the Historic James River above Osborne Landing and not getting many bites when an Osprey flew directly into the river about 25 feet away from me and grabbed a largemouth bass and took off. Yes, I was angry at first and then started to laugh when I though how great Mother Nature can be for all of her animals. So far I have never hooked any bird as I try to avoid them. A hooked bird can be a brutal adversary.

Pappa, I have done two things to protect the items on my boat while it sits in my field: 1. Remove all electronics and all other items, leaving nothing in the boat other than the anchor. 2. I put a baby monitor in the boat with the receiver in my man cave to hear if anyone is on the boat. Try the baby monitor. You can get them at Walmart. So far, so good.

DSW, here is a P.S. to my original post. I was fishing a Delaware pond and standing in one place for about 20 minutes catching some beauties and a bunch of dinks. All of a sudden and to the right about 3 feet in the mud a snapping turtle made a dash out of the mud and into the pond. I had no idea the turtle was there. There was another one in the pond that was floating while watching me, but he never made a move to come close. So add snapping turtles to your list of alligators and water moccasins and be real careful as these large turtles blend in to their surroundings and you will not see them unless they move.

Looks like my wife and I will keep the dog and maybe take it to dog obedience school to train me on how to handle him. Will bring him to Richmond the week of November 4th. But if anyone is interested in him let me know. Thanks.

Dorado, if you have confidence in this bait by all means continue to use it. Post pics of your successes!

Suggestions: 1. Use either Junebug or Green Pumpkin or Watermelon wacky rigged Senkos or YUM Dingers, 5-inch size but have some 4-inchers with you for all types of water. Junebug for heavily stained and stained water; Green Pumpkin for all other water clarities. Watermelon for clear water. 2. Throw them on fluorocarbon line with either a 12-pound baitcaster test or an 8-pound spinning rig test. 3. Go with a medium heavy rod. 4. Flip, pitch, skip and cast the stickbaits everywhere you can while always watching your line and keeping a finger on the line coming off the spool to feel the hits. 5. Get confidence in this presentation and colors. 6. And be sure to put some MegaStrike scent on your plastics. 7. Note any patterns you find and write down where and the day, time, weather, etc. for each. After doing this, and only this for the stickbaits. Next time out go with a search bait of your choice, only. No other rods for other presentations. Just go with a spinnerbait all day or your Chatterbait or crankbait. Learn how they feel and practice your casting and working them at different depths, etc. You will start to get confidence in one of these moving baits. Keep a log and map of the details of every catch and missed bass. Write everything down. Use the free fishing form in the above Tools listing of links at the top of this page. Put each report in a three-ring binder and study them. You will be surprised at what you will learn about your lake, especially the patterns. Now, for your rod, reel, and line test. Check out the parameters stamped on your rods and be sure to keep within them. In fact, you take the high and add the low test strengths together and divide by 2 to obtain the best line test for your rod's maximum performance. Then note the bait weight limitations. Stay within both. Bass fishing boils down to confidence. I have confidence that I will catch something using wacky rigged Senkos or YUM Dingers on a spinning set up. I have confidence that I will catch something on a crankbait on a baitcaster. And on and on as you build your confidence. Your goal is to get confidence in your presentations and bait selections. But it will take time. So keep asking us questions and we will give you our input as best we can. Good luck.

Yes. Two metal cabinets with locking doors for my plastics and hard baits which are in either the tackle boxes or the plastic containers with covers I got from Joann Fabrics. One office cabinet for my boat items. All stored now in my garage and they are a mess. I usually organize the items in the winter and will do so again beginning in December or January. It is lots of fun and you can find stuff you forgot where you put it, like my Ned Rig box. Anyone know where it went???? I know it was in the crankbait cabinet last I looked but I moved it and can't find it now. Thanks.

Nope. You may have to have the velcro sewn on the cuffs to your specifications. You can buy the velcro at Joann Fabrics and bring them to a seamstress outfit and they can put them on your shirt cuffs as you wish.

Wish we had an Academy store in Richmond, Virginia. With BPS, Cabela's, and Green Top we can cover the fishing world with no problem. But Academy has so many other items you can't find at the three above mentioned retailers. Time will tell. Hope Academy does not expand too fast and incur too much long term debt which is what causes these big box store chains to go under.

Disappointed to read about Dick's pulling out of the Classic. But Academy is a wonderful replacement. Academy's H2O baits are excellent.

130 is great for the big ladies when the water is calm. I agree with Drake to downsize your Whopper Plopper to a size 90. After you have your five bass limit you then go to the 130 if you want to invest the time and effort to try to catch that one big one. And yes, with an exposed hook your Ned Rig will get hung up on the bottom. But that is the way it is fished. Have fun.

Subscribe to Bass Times as this publication covers high school tournament fishing. Jace, I don't believe any university actually recruits guys and gals to fish on their college team. You first get accepted to the college of your choice and then approach the team or faculty representative to join their fishing club. But do your homework now. Go on-line and look up universities that have bass fishing teams. Look up the final standings of the BASS College tournament to get an idea of which schools have teams. Bethel College in Indiana won the event this year. Check out articles on the Bethel College team and the entire tournament on the Internet. Try to find the Bass Times article on the event, too. I know LSU Baton Rouge does not have a team but in the past LSU Shreveport won the BASS national championship by defeating Bamasux. So some of the larger universities may not have teams on their main campus but satellite campuses will have the team. Check out "Sea Grant Universities" in your area or nationally to note their names and if they have bass teams. Not all do.
