I read that river bass are more agressive than lake bass and if you introduce river bass into a pond they will take over and destroy the lake bass population. I have no idea if this is true or not but I agree with Glenn, have a professional tell you what to do and how to do it.

Fishing on Lake Gaston in Virginia last year about this time when my buddy and I were catching some beauties on our crankbaits. He had a 5 pounder in the well and were looking for more. Along a grass line something grabbed my crankbait and took off. My drag was not set correctly and my line popped. My buddy says she was about 8 pounds. I say she was a stripper but we were not catching any strippers so I was proably wrong. I stilll have nightmares about that fish!

Avid got upset when someone wanted to do an "Avid Look Alike Contest" on this site. Also, someone must have also criticized him or wrote something about him as he got upset and left the site. It is a great loss to this site and I sincerely hope he comes back. It is amazing to see the fish he catches in Florida and it gives us all something to look forward to matching this year when the weather gets warmer.

The Virginia Bass Federation lost one of its family on February 27th in a car accident in Boydton, Virginia. Ann Dalton's husband was killed in a traffic accident while visiting friends in the Smith Mountain Lake area. Here is the article as posted on the Federation's web site. "Attention membership; Ann Dalton's husband passed away Wednesday 2-27-08. If you have a call or an e-mail in to her, please be patient until she gets back to you. We have a couple of people helping to answer calls but they may not have all of the answers. If you would like to send Ann a card her address is: P.O. Box 691254, Vero Beach, FL 32969." Ann is our Virginia Bass Federation secretary. Everyone who knew her husband liked him. Super guy. Ann and her husband just retired and moved from Virginia to Florida late last year. This is a great loss to our Federation and we send our thoughts and prayers to Ann and her family.

Burley, the advice on this site is priceless. If someone asks a question, receives many answers, and does not take the advice, then they are wasting their time. I "save" many of the posts on this site and re-read them. They are like attending a Bassmasters University. And they are free! KVD Lure and Line Conditioner. Reel Magic. Spray a spot on washcloth and run line through the wet spot when spooling reels. Continue to re-wet the spot as you spool the line. Then, spray line once or twice on baitcaster or spinning reel before storing rig. Spray during the day while fishing. Pure silicone can be used too, but I prefer the KVD product even though it is expensive.

Senko rigged wacky and fished weedless. Light 6 pound line. Fished on a spinning rig. Fished slow. Senko rigged Texas-style fished weedless and with a light 1/8 pegged bullet weight or if possible, only a red bead above the hook. On light 6 pound line on a spinning rig. Fished slow. Crankbait. Shad color. 10 pound line fished on a baitcaster. Try to find fish before you get snagged and lose your bait. Spinnerbait. White or White and Charturuse. 1/4 or 3/8 fished on a baitcaster. If water clear and not cloudy, use silver willow leaf blades. If water is stained or overcast, use copper willow leaf blades. Fish fast and slow. Brown jig and pig fished on a baitcaster. If possible, 4 pound diamater 30-pound braid. Otherwise, 10 pound flurocarbon. Fish it slow on the bottom to imitate crawfish walking slowly. Do not raise rod tip more than one or two inches as you do not want to "yo-yo" bait as crawfish do not "yo-yo" when they move on the bottom. Be ready to set hook if line feels "mushy" or "heavy." Rat-L-Trap in chrome and black back and also red crawfish on baitcaster. Try 1/4 ounce traps. Fish fast and slow to see what they prefer. Be sure to fish slow, too. To find the fish throw the crankbait. If they miss, follow up with a Senko to the same area. Same with spinnerbait. Fish Senkos and watch your line. If they are feeding they will "walk away" with the bait. Pitch jig into wood or other cover/structure. The guys will have other info for you to consider, too. Good luck.

My wife's father told our son to look at his girlfriends' mothers as that is how she will look when she gets older. To say the least, he met, dated and then dropped more nice girls than you can shake a stick at. His grandfather always looked at me and laughed after he told that to Scott. Todayl, Scott is married to a beautiful young lady (she could be a fashion model) and her mother is not that attractive. I bet his wife had other "attributes" and "could so some things special" that what his grandfather told him did not matter with this girl.

To determine who owns the pond you will have to go to the Tax Assessors or Revenue Department's office in the jurisdiction the pond is situated and look up the addresses of the homes surrounding the pond. The clerks will be very helpful. Just have the addresses of the surrounding homes or take a map with you to show the clerks where the pond is located so they can find the tax records. The records will show you if the adjacent property owners own the pond. They can also tell you if anyone individual owns the pond or if the pond belongs to the city, town or county. After completing your reserch, contact the Animal Control office and speak with an officer or the director. Do not speak with 1) the receptionist or 2) a secretary. Speak with a person who has some authority. Ask them what can be done to remove the animals, if anything. Don't be surprised if they say "nothing" as they probably do not want to get involved. The Virginia Department of Game and Inand Fisheries may tell you that you cannot touch or harm the animals. They may tell you that it is not legal to trap and then release the animals at another location. But call them and get their input, anyway. Be sure to speak to a Game Warden (or their new nomenclature, whatever it is) in the Richmond office or your local game warden that is assigned to your jurisdiction. After doing all of your research, if the pond is owned by the adjacent property owners or an individual, you will have to contact them for permission to do anything to the animals. Be ready to be "shot down" as most non-fishing types love all animals and do not want to harm them in any way. So, the bottom line is that you may find it difficult for assistance at the state or local level and you may have to take circumstances into your own hands. Remember, you will need to double check the laws for discharging a firearm within the jurisdiction as once you pull that trigger the police or deputies will be on their way. A bow and arrow may be sufficient, but you have to be an excellent shot to get one with an arrow. Trapping them would be nice but then getting near them to set the trap; retrieving the trap; and taking the critters to another location to release them is a major problem. You can try to poision them but once again, can you harm the animals based on state and federal laws? And should anyone see you doing anything preceived to be illegal the law enforcement officers will be on their way. Let us know what you do, if anything, and the amount of jail time the judge gives you when you get caught. ;D
