Are you kidding? It is freezing in Richmond. I have not seen anyone around the Pony Pasture all month. If you go, be very careful of the cold water and please go with a buddy in case you get into trouble. The Pony Pasture is a very unforgiving place, as you know, and most people enjoy it when you can wear only a swimsuit and wading shoes. The nice thing is that the Pony Pasture is not going anywhere so it will be there in the spring and summer for you enjoyment. If you want to come to Richmond then I suggest considering attending the Richmond Fishing Expo on the 25, 26 and 27 of January.

Sure, no problem. Just be mindful of your battery power so you don't get stranded and have to row back to your launch site. As for fishing the pond, may I suggest taking your time and enjoying every inch of it. If you have a sonar unit you can map the bottom and find the humps, banks, brush, cover and structure. Enjoy!

Nope. Do not use them. The six (6) inch version is fine and produces excellent results. In fact, the smaller Senkos are good producers, too.

Last year when my son had his bachelor party he took his friends down to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and went on a charter boat. Actually two charter boats. Caught a lot of saltwater fish and had them filed at the dock and then cooked them for dinner. All the guys caught something and they had a very good time. They also sat around the house; swam in the pool; played Texas Hold 'Em (I came in third); and went to some bars along the coast. It was the first time for all but two guys to go on a charter boat. It was worth every cent.

Hey Muddy, Glad you are up this early and online. All I am saying is what Dr. Jones said in his book and when I spoke with him. We can just do as we think is correct until we get more scientific data to support the use of an oil based scent one way or the other. And you are right. Scents are used to catch us fishermen but there must be something to them, other than a confidence builder. I know a catfish can "smell and taste" attractants as they are one big tounge. I really wish we knew more about what a bass or other game fish can smell and taste. Time will tell.

The bass are deep and usually start moving towards shore when the water temperature hits 45 to 47 degrees. Have you checked the water's temperature to see what it is? Also, can you find any deep holes along the bank where they may be holding? Have you thrown a brown shaded jig fished slow back to the shore? Tried any tubes or grubs just to see if they would produced - fished really slow back to you? These are different presentations that may produce a strike. Remember, if the water is cold they are not going to move too far for a meal, but they will move to eat when they get hungry. Also, have you checked the tides? A falling tide is the best to fish on rivers so check your tide charts to see when there is a falling tide in the area where you fish. And remember to fish slow. Like cast and wait 60 seconds; move bait a few inches by moving rod tip and let it sit for another 60 seconds. Then do it again, letting it sit from 45 to 60 seconds. Then go nuts and get placed in Central State Mental Hospital, especially if you are Type A like me. ;D Let us know if your luck changes.

Nope, but it makes sense. Anything natural should be better then anything with an artificial oil base. Remember, according to Dr. Keith Jones, bass cannot smell oil based products. I use Dr. Jones' secret formula which is excellent. Messy but really good. Sorry, I don't share it.

We have some excellent boat shows in Richmond, Virginia. They are mostly saltwater boats. The Richmond Fishing Expo will have freshwater boats. No seminars at the saltwater boat shows that I know of. We do have seminars at the Richmond Fishing Expo.

Great news about the weather. Eli is from New Orleans; played college ball at Ole Miss; and he is not used to the cold weather. This is another good sign for the Packers. Of course, having Eli as the Giants QB is a good sign, too. Another Manning goes down this weekend.

I take a 7 and 10 year old fishing and everything said is right on target. The major thing I do is NOT take them fishing all the time so when we do go fishing it is a major and important event and they get all excited about it. The only problem is that when I am at my local pond and the kids drive by with their mother and see my car they pitch a fit in the car to have her stop and let them join me. So it is never a surprise of one or both show up, out of the blue, to fish with me so I always take two extra rigs for them to use. Arn't kids fun?

What a bummer. I was going to give you some pointers as to what to do with your own stripper, me being from New Orleans and growing up in the French Quarter. Better luck next time.

Great news! The Packers can handle the Giants. I think the Packers would have had their hands full if they played the Cowboys. I think the Packers will make it to the Super Bowl. Remember, the greatest play in the history of Ole Miss football and Eli falls on his ***. (LSU 17 - Ole Miss 14) The same think will happen up in Lambeau. And Peyton, like his dad, goes home after another failed attempt at a championship.

Mods, I noticed that we had 361 users on the site at one time. However, the count also illustrates a maximum of 111 members and 126 guests at two other times but not together on the same day. If we retain the 111 maximum members and the 126 maximum guests as the two maximums, then we know that yesterday the most members we can have is 110 and the most guests are 125 or the maximum numbers would have changed. So how can we get up to 361 users without changing the other maximum numbers? There are 126 missing people. Just checking. Thanks.

Hey Matt, You all did great. For some reason those bass like crankbaits on Gaston. I have had good luck in the past with crankbaits. Keep those pics coming. And are you wearing your PFD? I did not notice it in the pics.

Any name brand baitcaster should suffice. Just learn how to use it and then when you master it add to your collection.

I the city, I go the speed limits as much as possible. On the interstates I go no more than five (5) miles per hour over the posted speed limit. Sometimes in the city on the major arteries I will go five (5) miles above the speed limit. As long as you go with the flow you should be OK. It is the weaving and changing lanes and going more than seven (7) miles over the posted speed limit that the Virignia State Troopers will pull you over.
