first bed fish of '09
Great catch Paul. I was out today on the lake and saw 63 surface temps. I got to think there has to be some fish on the lakes wanting to spawn. Cool story and nice pic. Beautiful fish. She looks healthy. It may be her first time but, I'm sure it a won't be her last time doing business with you! Chris

I totally understand Ronnie. Sorry you won't be making it and I'm sure Mike will fill in just fine. If there is anything I can do to assist you Mike, let me know. Update on the tackle list: Hard jerkbaits in a shad color or something with some chartuese 1/2 Rat-L-Traps in a chartuese or red color Barkley is on fire so I'm told. Hard jerkbaits are the ticket followed up with a jig. Most of the fish are pre-spawn and are holding fairly shallow on both lakes. I was out for a few hours today on Ky. Lake. I caught several on t-rigged craws (Ragetail craw in watermelon red flake) but, no good fish today. I felt like the fish were moving around a little bit on me. They seemed to want a 1/2 oz. rat-l-trap. I was throwing an Excalibur in royal shad. These fish were relating to grass near creek channels or points in about 2-3 ft. of water. Water temps on Ky. were as high as 63 in the shallower water. The lake is still rising. Kent, I'm looking foward to the new lures you mentioned and I think an Ika will catch em'. CJ

Here's my tackle list: t-rigged craws or creatures in black w/ red or blue flake, green pumkin 3/16 oz. sinkers Bandit 100 series cranks in a chartuese color 1/2 oz. spinnerbaits double willow chartuese and white skirt jigs in black blue or green pumpkin shakeyhead worm in a green pumpkin or junebug flukes in lemon shad or white Don't forget your Megastrike. I'm sure there are other baits that will work. Just my opinion. If anything else evolves, I'll let you know.

Kelley, I am seeing them on the side of the road. I haven't seen any on the lake shore but they don't come up everywhere and they come up almost over night. I bet there are some blooming somewhere. I always found more of them on Barkley. Anyway, the milfoil is coming on! I'm finding grass in 3-4 of water and there are fish in it! The bite is hot and getting hotter!

New PB for Gavin!!!
Gavin says thanks ya'll. I'm still glowing today and so is Gavin! I agree the fish looks a lot bigger in the pic. Still a very memorable catch. Fish Chris made an awesome point. Huh? Sorry if I'm behind the times but what's MeanBearPig?

There is a small grocery store in Aurora. Thats just a couple minutes from the sight. Wal-Mart in Murray is about 20 minutes away. Crappie are caught best with live minnows under a bobber. They wil be shallow. Mealworms and crickets for bluegill and shellcrackers. Look for wood to catch crappie and little ditches or run offs for bluegill and shellcrackers.

New PB for Gavin!!!
LOL Scott. Nothing to worry about. Gavin and his brother will be in Florida for spring break. Now me....I'm not going to Florida.. :!

New PB for Gavin!!!
Just came in off the lake with my 8 year old boy, Gavin. He never seizes to amaze me! Today will go down as one of the most memorable fishing trips ever! We started out the day by Gavin schooling his dad. He had caught 5 fish before I ever got a bite and he was keeping up and rubbing it in the whole day! LOL! I finally got going with a 4 1/2 lber. Then...there is a bitter sweet about it. I pitch a t-rigged craw down a bank that has a nice step a few yards off the bank. I'm checking my cell phone to see who I just ignored when I look up my line is slacked and the other end is under the boat. I reel up, set the hook and a biggun is down there shaking her head no! She comes up and throws my lure. I got a good look at what I believe would have been a new PB. Oh well life goes on. Meanwhile, the score is, Gavin 20, Dad 10. It seemed like everywhere he threw his shakeyhead worm he caught a fish. Then the day starts to wind down. We both got fish thumb. We decide for one more stop on a creek channel about halfway back in a bay. Man was it loaded with 2-3 lbers. Then Gavin sets the hook on good un'. Man did she fight but finally gave up to the young angler. 4 lbs. even!!! Thats a new mark for Gavin but I bet it don't stand long! We ended up catching 56 fish. 29 of them were caught by Gav. Yep, he handed his ole man's butt to him! My camera batteries were dead so we had to use the phone camera. Sorry not the best pic but, it does kinda resemble a young Fish Chris! LOL

Green pumkin tubes cart7. Don't count the jerkbait out yet. SM will come up and nail a jerkbait when paused over their beds. They should be going on the beds soon. Gene, spinnerbaits, flukes, and t-rigged lizards or creatures. Bass will be bedding and feeding in these flowers! Makes there beds easy to find.

Yup 359. If we get a couple good rains, she'll come right up! I would like to see it hit 360. That puts a lot of bushes in the water. Also, the yellow flowers are starting to come up and just at the right time. If we can get them in the water, look out man!!!

Btech, navigation will be fairly simple. All channels are marked just watch out for the points at the mouths of some bays. Not all of them are marked. I'll be glad to go over maps with anybody there the first night. I will be happy to give advice or opinions to any who ask about locations.

Never tell the wife 'get what you want'
Yeah yeah, I know there's no such thing as a free lunch but an 11 year old roof getting replaced with a better one (dimensional shingle upgrade) for what I'm paying in premiums is still a great deal. Besides, I'd still have to pay those premiums. So, you got a new roof with an upgrade for free? Was it a really nice roofer that saved you your deductible and gave you dimensional shingles? None of the insurance companies are that good to their clients around here! Anyway, you did well. CJ

Kids day on Ky. Lake!!!!!
I'm glowing this morning thinking back on yesterday's short trip to the lake with my boys, Tristan and Gavin. We started out by eliminating some dead water but then we got on a few. The story of the day was a nice smallmouth Tristan caught. Man did this brownfish fight! As many of you know, Gavin has been on here with some nice pic's before but I believe this may be a debut for his older brother Tristan. We ended up catching around a dozen bass in just a couple hours fishing. Here's a few pic's: Tristan and a nice smallmouth!!! His arms were a little tired after that fight! Gavin with a chunky 3 lber!!! Little bit better pic of the fish. If you haven't ever taken a kid fishing, you're missing out!!! CJ

Another nice day on Ky. Lake!!!
The water temps are on the rise. I've seen some water up around 60. Lake levels are just a couple inches above 355'. It's got 4 ft. to go to get to summer pool. I don't care what it does...they're biting and will be for awhile! Ryan, I'm using jerkbaits that run about 4 ft. deep. I don't expect the jerkbait to last much longer if the water temps keep rising. I've been catching them shallow mostly but that gal was close to deep water. I was actually looking for a brown fish when I caught her. Everyday more fish are moving up and towards the back. Some fish never left the shallows. RW, I would say that she has a little bit of both going on. Most of the bass are like footballs right now due to the shad kills. Though, she should be producing eggs by now? Thanks ya'll!!! BTW, RW somedays a guy has to take a break. I did bust my backside yesturday morning to make the short outing possible...I'm saving plenty I promise! Gonna bust my butt again in the morning!! : CJ

Another nice day on Ky. Lake!!!
Got out on the water about 3:00 today and boy was it a nice day. Light winds and the fish are really becoming active. We had close to twenty fish today. Several nice ones but only one that was picture worthy. The jerkbait is really on! 6 lbs. 4 oz. Hope everybody's water starts warming up soon!

Jackall Bros. Giron
I got a couple of them late last year. Havent even thrown one yet but, I'm gonna give them a try real soon. Just waiting for the bass to spawn.
