  1. Wanna say they're gizzards, they've been known to get hand-sized in that pond. And yes, it was air-temp that I was referring to.
  2. Went out this morning to a spot and saw some dying shad scattered around the pond. It's a probably a 1.5-2 acre pond. I guess it was like 60 yesterday, and it's about 40 today. This is the first time I've seen them like this. They looked just like what a jerkbait imitates (which is cool in itself). Any particular reason as to why I'd have seen so many all of a sudden?
  3. The Gander Mtn in town is doing pretty rough.
  4. Man. This question really is asked once a week. Of the ones you listed, you could save some cash and grab a Dobyn's Fury, or grab that Lew's Lite, those are pretty sweet.
  5. If I were to take a gander at why, it'd be improving technology. Reels get lighter, stronger and faster, and ultimately, the faster you can pick up slack line for any presentation the better.
  6. Yeah, landing ratio would be better.
  7. My dad and I have been talking a lot about big soft plastic swimbaits recently, and he said ever since he switched to a line-through with a treble, his hook-up ratio is virtually 100%. Does anyone here swear by them or swear against them?
  8. I would hands down recommend the Super Duty in 8:1. The Lew's BB1 is pretty good too, that's what I've used up until I converted my Super Duty.
  9. If you wanna stick talk a combo, those Lew's Mach 1 and 2 are flying of the shelves. Very popular. The mach 2 is good for jigs and plastics, and the Mach 1 for moving baits.
  10. I've had some good luck this season with the longer shadow raps, and late last fall the Spro McStick in darker colors.
  11. I almost made a similar joke in the original post
  12. What're your favorite football jig colors? And what size do you usually fish? I have started making a brown craw color with a hint of red that I really like. I usually use 1/2 to 3/4 since I only throw footballs deep.
  13. Yeah, the Fury and the Okuma are probably the best you'll find for the money. You can save some money and buy some more swimbaits.
  14. Don't worry, I got here as fast as I could. But the best answers have been said already. There is a difference.
  15. i like the hmg, weve had some hmgs on clearance for $70. At f&s.
  16. My DSG/F&S had buy 10 get 50% off clearance lures. We took those down last night and put up new signs for buy 4, get 2 for free. Which is better, since I don't want to shell out $40 right now.
  17. Yeah, wut. I was just talking to a guy at Lew's at work and he said it was still independently owned (if that is what you are getting at). I think the bearing are coated in the Curado, but yeah, you're right.
  18. If you're not buying a Curado or better, go with Lew's.
  19. I brought a few to a local club meeting (not even a member myself, but spoke on a local issue) and I had several guys say they;d take a dozen if they're in 3/16ths. This is easier than I thought! haha
  20. Ah I think I know what you are saying, I'd try it out, but I made all the jigs I can right now hahaha.
  21. I bought some dredge jig heads from @Siebert Outdoors, the owners are about a buck fity each. The skirts from skirtsunlimited.com, which are $1.50 to $2.50 for a 10 pack depending on quantity you purchase. I also bought the pencil like tool and a 100 pack of bands from TW (PS you can make the pen tool out of a pen and wire, but it's cheap either way). taking advantage of bulk pricings, I'm sitting at around $2 a jig.
  22. finally got everything in the mail today, i made all the jigs that I could tonight haha. 2 looks a little sparse, but that would be fine with some finesse presentations. 2.5 is about right. 3 is pretty big, put thats fine. Since I'm commenting here, how do you guys get the strands to mix?
  23. I'd say that would be perfect. Nice short rod and around medium power. Dobyn's tend to be lighter, which is really nice whenew fishing slash baits.
