  1. I'm a dobyns fan boy, and I have a DX745, it's pretty great. But I've heard the NRX is the best rod out there.
  2. I am not selling it. And thanks Mr. Francho! I have heard great things about the Falcon Lowrider, they're second on my list.
  3. I have a Champion 806cb, it's pretty awesome.
  4. I'm heading up to the boundary waters for a canoe trip in late June, never been before. I hear we can catch panfish, northern and smallies for the most part. What kind of gear should I take, and what should I target?
  5. Can't go wrong with a tournament Pro!
  6. I just got done fishing a tournament on Table Rock, where all my fish came on the ned. I threw it on a DX745 with a TproG spooled up with 10lb invisx. I'd opt for a lighter rod, but that's what I was feeling that day.
  7. I second (or third) the Dobyns 705cb, especially since they finally carry it in affordable Fury line. However, I do not own one of these, I use a Champion 684cb. I like the moderate action and the shorter length. Great rod, handles the fish very well. I have heard good things about the Avid/X and it's probably the rod I'd recommend after the Champion. The biggest change I made in my squarebill set up was using a higher speed reel and that made a big difference for me.
  8. I have a M/F and a M/MF... and I like them both... I'm undecided thus far haha
  9. So braid will definitely help you learn how to use a casting reel. However, if you do backlash, you will run the risk of launching your bait, unconnected to your line. I'd stick with braid (I recommend Suffix Performance Braid) for now, and move up to some #20-#25 co-poly when you feel comfortable.
  10. I own a savvy or two, and have fished the fury a few times. I'd definitely say that it is worth the extra dough. The savvy has fair sensitivity and the fury is pretty lacking in my opinion. I would say, however, that it depends on the technique you are using it for. If you are getting it as an all purpose rod ---> Savvy If you are looking for a reaction bait rod -----> Fury If you are looking for a jig/plastics rod --------> Savvy If you want the best rod for your money ------> Champion
  11. Tatula vs LFS, seems like every other thread on here haha. The Lew's LFS is the best reel for under $100. Lew's makes IMO the best reels up to the $200 range.
  12. I'm looking at grabbing a frog rod, any recommendations about a Falcon? I'm cool with either a Cara or a Lowrider. I'm also interested in the Champion 735, so that's in need of comparison as well. Thanks!
  13. Just want to see all my options haha
  14. Robert Riley posted a topic in Fishing Tackle
I fish primarily All Terrain Jigs, however, they do not have a black and chartreuse jig. Anyone know of any company that makes good jigs in this color? +1 for Siebert haha
  15. I recently fished from a boat. I have no idea how to use the electronics from the boat. Any good articles or forums on here? It looks to me like the "Electronics" section here is much more technical. I had access to the traditional sonar and side-scan by the way.
  16. I bought the same reel for that price this last summer, it's probably: a. my favorite spinning reel b. the best one I've used. c. best deal i've gotten on a reel.
  17. I have had a few I've bought over the last 3 years, they all work wonderfully. Except for one, which was entirely my fault in not putting it back together correctly,
  18. I have a Lew's SuperDuty 8:1 ratio. If you are finessing, check out the new TProG, that's one h*ll of a reel for light baits.
  19. 733 might be a bit light. 744 would be my best recommendation. I have a DX745 and I could usually throw 1/4 oz (which is rated as it's "minimum"), today I even threw a 3/16 Ned rig on it.
  20. Only $200 spinning rod I bought was a GL2, waste of $200.
  21. I don't have it with me, but if I recall, it feels like they move freely.
  22. I feel so dumb asking this question, considering the extent of my knowledge, but how do you tune the brakes on the ProG? not my picture, but here they are:
  23. I've got several Lew's and a few Abu's; Abu's feel a bit cheaper than the Lew's to me, but they fish the same haha.
  24. Give Dobyn's a call tomorrow (They're EST btw). They are always so incredibly helpful when I call.
