  1. I know they are made in the same factory, but man they feel so different to me. I love the Lew's, and the Abu's are ehh, feel very cheap.
  2. I have 11# on my D684cb, great line, works very well.
  3. I have a brand new Dobyns D684cb and Lew's TProG, it's a beaut. I have #10 Invizx on it, use it for squarebills and jerkbaits. I took it out for the first time yesterday, and I'm having a hard time getting the brakes right. Is there a chance that some of my issues lie in the diameter of the line? I got about as many birds-nests yesterday as I have all last season, and I just had to peel about half of it off. Want to know if that is a possible issue before I respool on 60 some yards of line.
  4. If you plan on eventually buying higher end reels, I'd recommend the Shimano. I think Lew's makes the better reels in the $200 and under category.
  5. I do not, but my jerkbait rod is a D684cb. That 663 may be a bit on the lighter side though.
  6. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swimjigs, and small swimbaits will work on that rod!
  7. I'm not biased in my reel selection, I just happen to have half a dozen or so Lew's.
  8. If you can find those deals, go for it, that's the best set up right there.
  9. Buy the $350 Dobyns then. I fish mostly dobyns, their Savvys are great, and the Champions are even better. Plus they have so much variety in the same line.
  10. Lew's Speed Spool LFS is pretty good, for $100. Or you could get a Mach1 for the topwater rod.
  11. What's you price point for the reels? 1) 7:1 with braid 2) 6:1 with FC 3) 6 or 5:1 with Mono
  12. Helps keep the bait in the strike zone longer lol. I'm actually getting a 734 or 735 in a bit. I'll make sure to post up here about it for you.
  13. Did you catch it with a Lew's reel and a custom cast jig too Tom? Haha. But really, the 735 is the bomb. If I were in your shoes, I'd actually buy an extreme bottom contact rod, and then buy an all-purpose. I think the champions are just as good as the extremes for anything moving.
  14. I use Sunline Reaction, I really like it. It's got a bit of stretch that really helps with my over-the-top hooksets.
  15. I have used a D765, and I use a DX745. The rods are pretty light and pretty g**d**n awesome. The Champions have a new blank, the Extremes have different cork and appearance.
  16. I'm not the first, but the Dobyns 743 is the bomb. I've used it once, and it is on my list. Any spinning reel will do honestly, a little money goes a long way. I have the Pflueger Supreme XT and the Team Lew's, they're both great and I got them for $80 and $60 respectively.
  17. Around September, I purchased a GL2 spinning jwr on clearance at DSG. So that's my guess. But good riddance, those were decent rods, but they weren't worth $200. Like all of my Dobyns casting rods weigh less than the GL2 spinning rod I own.
  18. I have a system for my rods, each one serves a specific purpose. So currently, my fish frogs on my jig rod, but it's too fast, therefore my next investment is a frog rod. At this point, having 7-8 rods, I intend to buy rods for only a specific purpose.
  19. Just bought some 11# for my filesystem setup. I'll let you know in about a month haha.
  20. I'll take that included $50 donation Tommy boy.
  21. Funding isn't so much of an issue, I'd just like to be safe/smart with it. I'll probably just get a Dobyns Savvy 735c.
  22. I've used both and I genuinely like the feel of the BB1 and feel it casts more smoothly. I tend to think that the Revo line feels and looks cheap.
  23. I'd say it's a bit heavy for the chatterbaits. But the 733 will work well. Just know that it's got a quicker taper and is heavier than the savvy.
  24. Thinking of getting the Fenwick Aetos in 7'9" HXF. However, I fish mostly dobyns and was curious if anyone can attest to the action of this rod? EDIT: I'm also going to look at the EliteTech, since it claims to be "fast"
