  1. sing drag sing!
  2. that's a full drum line there!!!!!! a couple of those look like they could go in the books! BIG Fish, for sure.
  3. huge difference between the two...... you need a marine dual purpose. sears pm1 is the best out there from all accounts, if you can swing it.
  4. 5. non boaters..... bring your life jacket if possible. It sucks at 6am to scramble around to try to find one. Always do, but its peace of mind if you have yours..... To me lifejackets are like Pillows, your own always feels better.
  5. your intended targety baits are perfect for the 3 power..... I will always suggest the longer in the better. Bonus question 1: the DX is overkill to be throwing a moving bait.... how about a 1 or 2 power spinning? on casting gear that light you need a really good reel.... my 3/16 shakyhead are thrown on a core50 Bonus question 2: I throw my shakeheads on a 742DX casting and a dropshot on a 742DX spinning. so you are good there I would think.
  6. as we all make final plans and packing the boats, bait and work arrangments I offer these last pieces of advice based on last year's trip. 1. bring your own toliet paper.... resort/hotel paper is not fun after a week 2. set aside a few bucks for the raffle.... it is a good time 3. Think strongly about donating to Tackle the Storm for each fish you catch at the roadtrip..... even if it is only a dime per fish if you catch 50 during the week(and you will) you can donate $5 and put a smile on a child! some will give more and some less, but every penny counts!! 4. take LOTS of pictures!
  7. no, ^this is what I was referring to. I never knew you were a teacher's aid BTW.
  8. CLayton.......... just to pick at you...... just because someone will teach him for free don't mean he is going to LEARN anything, LOL.
  9. I was fishing with a older guy on day and I released a fish....... he looked dead at me and asked me what I thought I was doing... asked why? He was dead serious when he told me NOT to release the fish to the side of the boat I caught it on, ALWAYS release it on the other side. Myth, superstition, I don't know...... but I have learned when the old timers in my area talk I better be listening!
  10. ask some old timers about it before you laugh too hard.
  11. only one way to find out!
  12. there seems to be a movement towards braid for finesse fishing....... Amart, Kriet and others say they love it. most guys going that route are look to be using 15# I don't get it, but each his own.
  13. I have heard this too....... but I aint wasting time walking to the back of the boat while on a school. unless it is a big un I want pics of
  14. BAPTIST COWBOY A cowboy, who just moved to Wyoming from Texas , walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud. He sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more. The bartender approaches and tells the cowboy, "You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time." The cowboy replies, "Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in Arizona , the other is in Colorado . When we all left our home in Texas , we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together. So I'm drinking one beer for each of my brothers and one for myself." The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there. The cowboy becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. He orders three mugs and drinks them in turn. One day, he comes in and only orders two mugs. All the regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss." The cowboy looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns in his eyes and he laughs. "Oh, no, everybody's just fine," he explains, "It's just that my wife and I joined the Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking." "Hasn't affected my brothers though."
  15. first thing you have to is get a couple of bites...... even the first bite tells a story! once you get a bit then you can put together the when, where, how, and why of it all.
  16. thanks for what you do for folks like me!!!!
  17. $8 for 4 oz or 128oz for $67...... you do the math LOL.
  18. I will say too........ line size plays a role too......if you stay in the middle of the rating(total weight) and middle of line rating you should be good for most people. I get really picky sometimes with my stuff, sometimes to a detriment.
  19. my dx 743 used to be my 1/4oz tube/plastic rod and weightless senko rod when I had a Core50 on it ..... now that I have a TP on it I like it of 1/4oz footballs plus rage craw type stuff. that hunk of plastic on the back weighs more than you think. really a 1/4oz and a trigged ragecraw is pushing 1/2oz and speaking strictly in the dobyns line(I don't know many other rods) a very very basic starting point is take the low rating and use that or + 1/8oz as the leadhead weight then when you add your plastic/bait/ect you have hit the sweetspot. examples: dx742 casting...... low rating is 3/16.... rod is perfect for 3/16 or 1/4oz shakyheads with a zoom magnum shake worm dx743 casting.......low rating is 1/4 .... perfect for 1/4 oz jigs plus trailer or senkos or 1/4oz small bait trigs dx744 casting ......low rating is 3/8..... is there a better 3/8 jig plus trailer rod? probably not ect, ect
  20. that's what its all about right there Teal!!!!!!!
  21. always bring a 100 footer just in case......better safe than sorry
  22. Mike, according to navioincs it is.... the web app shows the buoys so the map card will too.(heading into double head) but the channel looks to be a few hundred yards from the ramp at doublehead Another question: If you put in the at the 3 ramps at the south bank at the dam just west of the powerlines there are no buoys defining any channel until you get to the north bank.......is one to assume it is safe running across to the north bank?
  23. thanks BG RTR..... I figured, but since there is 3 ramps right there at the dam (south side) I figure if the current isn't too bad a guy might be able to idle out of the ramp then drop trolling motor. Little bit easier to see rocks while on the trolling motor than sitting at the console..... don't ask me how I know
