  1. One hell of a good fish, Id'a been having a real nice dinner. NGaHB
  2. Id spend ever dime you can on a rod, go with a used rod and send them a check since you said you cant order offline. get a cheap reel, id suggest spinning for the money you want to spend, and then upgrade later. My favorite setup is a 30 dollar mitchell reel on a $200 Kistler rod. NGaHB
  3. Very cool, wish i had of seen those during the height of the molting season
  4. good lookin mount either way. If it was a male he was a boss hawg. So the fish you caught was 24", but he mounted it on a 17" mold? NGaHB
  5. Kistler helium LTA 6'6" medium power x-fast action spinning rod. Works real well
  6. I've got one on the way, hope it turns out well. I was wondering where this thread was, glad you got it goin. NGaHB
  7. That braid might be alittle worn, making it look "frayed". Possibly could lose you a good fish. I'd pull out a few feet and discard it. NGaHB
  8. I dont have any experience with the weedless hooks, but I always try and do a reel set with wacky fishing, not sure why, but it has seemed to help with me. NGaHB
  9. I ended up with a citica today from Dicks sporting goods for a pretty low price. I did well with it today, I think some of the other reels I had used needed maintenance and a good cleaning. I'm pretty happy with the result. Thanks NGaHB
  10. I've never been able to get decent at a bc reel, but I have put my mind to making it happen soon. I saw this: http://www.basspro.com/enigma_fishing_reels/_/N-0/Ntk-Search_All/Ntt-enigma+reels?cm_sp=EnigmaReelMar2011_HM on BPS and was wondering if anyone had an opinion. Thanks NGaHB
  11. braid would let you do top water well while keeping the hook set more solid. I would up the hook size, you could also look at straight shank hooks, they will increase your hookup ratio. NGaHB
  12. Folks will act like its a mortal sin to do so, but I have and don't see a thing wrong with it. I mainly do so for catfish, but a bass will jump on em from time to time. NGaHB
  13. Presentation, bait and luck will all be hard pressed to provide a big fish in a puddle with a low likely hood of having big fish.
  14. I'd throw that frog, and also try some swimbaits, flukes and the proper hooks can be had for next to nothing. I've had 6" fish hit a full sized buzz bait, bass are mean buggers, don't be afraid to throw bigger baits
  15. I have helped mess around with a similarly sized pond for years, catfish have a way of getting out of control in a pond this small and will eat up about anything. However you can have a great catfish pond, but that's only catfish. You might find it hard to maintain a good balance between predator and prey, we sure have. Supplemental feeding for the blue gills has been necessary, NGaHB
  16. Even tho the internet affords you some level of anonmenity, I don't think its. The best place to broadcast prescription drug abuse. Remember, each pill is a felony. NGaHB
  17. I'm down here in Georgia and have only caught two SM bass to this point, both during the same outing in West Virginia. I was wondering if there were any SM's to be caught in Georgia, and if not how far I'd have to go to find some. Thanks NGaHB
  18. The other week I was fishing a strike king shime and shake when I got broke off. A week later I was throwing the same lure at the same dock, on Lake Lanier mind you, and got a decent hit. Pulled her in and it was the same fish, unless someon else was using #2 finness wide gaps with a floro leader on #15 braid. Pretty wild catch.
  19. I caught 5 or 6 the other afternoon, at 3 pm... With a buzzbait. Like ya said, ya never know. NGaHB
  20. All the coosa bass I'm refuring to are found rubbin fins with trout
  21. As far as I know red eyes, as I'm refuring to them the Coosa bass, is only found in high altitude streams, in ga nc kentucky and one other state, can't remember which tho. I guess this is why scientific names are useful. NGaHB
  22. I usually try and pull top water as slow as I can, but if I get short strikes, or the rare occasion I can see them follow, ill burn it back. They might not go for it, but if they do they have to be serious about it, which usually leads to a fish on the line.
  23. Well ya learn something every day. The red eyes I'm refuring to are only found in four states, and only in high altitude streams. But from the talk these rock bass sound like a fun fish to catch. I'll post pics of a "red eye"/ coosa bass here in a few. NGaHB
  24. I might switch line, but I am new to senkos myself. I have sat there and watched two ~6" bass each grab an end and fight over it for 30 seconds, which felt like one single bass chewing on it like a piece of double bubble. Might just be alot of small fish messing around with it. if your using 5" senkos you might switch to the shorter ones, id probably increase #s, however I expect alot would be dinks. NGaHB
