Braid That Doesn't Lose Color?
All braids bleed. Some more than others. Of the braids I have tried, Suffix 832 keeps its color longer. That is, of course, out of the ones I have tried (PP, Fireline, Suffix Performance, & Suffix 832).

Fly Line To Tippet Knot?
As stated before, if the fly line does not have a loop the use a nail knot. Since most tapered leaders now come with a loop for easy/fast changes, you can make a loop to loop connection for future leaders so you don't have to keep cutting your fly line to add a new leader. Take either the butt section of a tapered leader (about 12") or a 12" section of 40lb mono. Tie one end to the fly line with a nail knot. Then tie a "perfection loop" into the other end of the mono. You now have a loop for connecting a leader with a loop-to-loop connection. Enjoy the new addiction!!

Help With Topwater
For "walk the dog" action: Lucky Craft Sammy & Zara Spook For a straight retrieve by reeling: Rage Tail Shad, Stanley Ribbet Frogs, buzzbaits, & my favorite...Spro BBZ 4" shad (floater). For grass mats or heavy vegetation: Hollow body frogs (I use Live Target frogs) Hope this helps!

Favorite Lipless Crankbait
They are expensive but my favorite are Live Target Bluegill & Shad. I catch more on these than I do RES's. Rat-l-trap would be my 2nd but I hardly ever use them because The LT's perform so well for me.

Huddleston Baits
RW, Throw them out at the civic center. Go to the back corner next to the small bridge. Throw it as far as you can into the deep area and let it sink to the bottom. Then SLOWLY reel it back up that small ledge while hugging the bottom. I have caught 4 good bass out there with Hudds doing that exact retrieve. If you would like, I'll meet you out there Sunday morning & fish them with you. Carlton

Your Favorite Bass Fishing Memory
My favorite bass memory would have to be my first bass. It was a 7lb 3oz largemouth caught on a T-rig worm. My best friend had taken me to introduce me to the sport. He was happy for me, yet mad at the same time because his personal best was 5lb 13oz and I smashed it on my first bass. I grew up fly fishing for trout so my favorite fishing memory would have to be when my fiancee & myself were on one of our kayak fly fishing trips. We had been on the water for about 10 hours and ready to pull off & camp for the night when I spotted a monster brown trout about 20 ft from my kayak. We quietly floated about 100 yards past it then shored the kayaks. I QUIETLY made my way back to where I saw her & started casting. 20 cast's & 4 flies later I landed my PB Brown trout. She was 33" long and weighed 14lb 7oz.

What Line For Crankbaits
IMO for med to deep cranks you definitlely want fluorocarbon to help get them down. I use 10lb on med/deep cranks. For shallow it really does not matter the type b/c its easier to keep them at running depth. I use 12lb yozui (copoly) on my shallow / lipless rod but fluoro or mono would work fine. As others have said, line size will affect crank depth as well. The smaller diameter the line, the less drag it has in the water so it will sink faster (fluoro & copoly). Smaller diameter mono will not float as well. Hope this helps!

Carbonlite/pro Qualifer Combo Vs A Smoke Rod
Can't speak about the Smoke rod but my shaky head rod is a Carbonlite (6'6" M/F) with a Shimano Sahara and I love it! Don't know if you have a Carbonlite rod or not or have fished them. I have 2 Carbonlite spinning & 3 casting and they are really good rods. Easy to hold & work all day and great sensitivity. For the money they are hard to beat. BPS has them on sale right now for $79.95 i think. Can't beat that price!! Picked up my 2nd spinning yesterday at that price. Good luck in your search!

Man that is awesome!! The bait monkey knows no age limits!! Hahahaha!

True Story
I had a Blue Herron swoop down & try and grab my LC Sammy I was walking. I had to snap the rod back & reel like crazy to keep from hooking it. It would have sucked to hook it with all those trebble hooks!

Fly Fishing Advice
You have been given great advice so far. I know its not what you want to hear, but you definitely need different fly rods for bass and trout. When buying a fly rod you need to determine what size flies you will be throwing with it. That determines what weight rod to get. You CAN throw tiny trout flies with an 8 wt, but the weight of the line will seriously affect the presentation. On the flip side, it is impossible to throw big wind resistant flies on a 4 or 5 wt. They just do not have the line weight to handle those flies. I do use my 8 wt for trout in winter, only because I am throwing size 1 & 2 articulated streamers for trophy browns (28+ inches). The rest of the year I use a 4, 5, & 6 wt (of different actions) for trout. For bass I throw the 8 wt. For bluegill I throw a 3 & 4 wt. I would recommend getting either a fast action 4 wt or moderate action 5 wt for your trout rod & save up and get a 7-8 wt for a bass rod. Hope this helps!

Punching Gear
I use a St Croix 7'9" H , Revo Premier with 65 lb braid, 1 1/2 oz tungsten weight, punch skirt (tie my own), Trokar flippin hook, and craw or creature bait. As stated before, you definitely need a stout rod & braid!

Interesting Article!
Jeff, My guess for the reason they say it remains the record is because that bass in Japan in 2009 didn't technically break the record, it tied it according to the IFGA. A new IFGA record has to weigh at least 2 oz more than the previous record to become the new record. That bass was only 1 oz more so it "tied" the previous record according to IFGA rules. Carlton

Interesting Article!
The pic definitely looks "artist rendered". I have never seen a picture from that era look like that. Before I read the article though, I was not aware of the "mystery" surrounding the world record. It's definitely a story I want to read up on.
