  1. I get Bassmaster but I rarely read any of the articles. Too much information on this web thingy. SE Kansas grass grower
  2. No. You can still do waypoints and trails but no maps. I think it'll be a great, inexpensive unit for the trolling motor. SE Kansas grass grower
  3. There's a bunch of great guides down there. Check Lake Fork Marina's web site for a large list and start making some phone calls. SE Kansas grass grower
  4. On the bow I have the 73dv with DownVu and Panoptix. Just learning but so far, really, really like the Panoptix on the trolling motor. Pretty good point and shoot. That being said, I think I would like the SideVu on the console unit. SE Kansas grass grower
  5. I've had a 53dv for a couple years now and really like the unit. I have no experience with the lowrance so this is a one sided opinion. The downvu is awesome, especially when split viewed with the standard sonar with CHirp. Mapping is only as important as you need it. The 53 DV will soon have QuickDraw (self mapping) which is really cool. Good luck.
  6. I recently put a Garman 73dv (7") on the bow. I used a Ram mount with a 6" extension and glad I did. The extension makes it easier to read and also I don't have to bend over as far to make adjustments. I was suprised how sturdy the 1.5" Ram is. I think the 7" is fine but a 9" would definitely be better.
  7. Well you definitely want to have your foot on the controls if you start out at the highest speed, but no worse than any other motor I've used. Actually a little better because it doesn't just jump to the highest speed. SE Kansas grass grower
  8. Just my opinion, but if you're over 40 take a good hard look at the fortrex. I got one when they first came out and really love it. So much easier to deploy and to store. And it's one helluva trolling motor. SE Kansas grass grower
  9. They are going to be a great starter unit. Keep in mind that there is no mapping on these units. You can mark waypoints, but as far as contours or shore line, there isn't any. SE Kansas grass grower
  10. Wow! Should be good. I thought I was in the wrong forum for a minute. SE Kansas grass grower
  11. Garmin echoMAP CHIRP 43dv $299.99. Great maps, CHIRP, DownVu, and QuickDraw self mapping. Or Garmin STRIKER 5dv. CHIRP, GPS, and DownVu. 299.99. If GPS is not an issue, then the 553DV for $329.99, Tons of choices for your confusion! SE Kansas grass grower
  12. Went to Cedar Creek yesterday for 2 hours. Just messing with the Garmin QuickDraw for the most part. Was kind of shocked when I caught a 19" chunk on a jig n pig. Then ended up with 4 more between 17 and 19" slow rolling a spinner bait. Water was 47 to 48*. SE Kansas grass grower
  13. Got to LaCygne about 8:20 Saturday morning. Never seen so many trailers, there was no place to park so drove to Mound City. No fish but was able to do a lot of mapping with my QuickDraw. SE Kansas grass grower
  14. Cut the plug off. Put circle electrical ends on, connect red wire to positive and black wire to negative on the battery. SE Kansas grass grower

  16. I've got an 80# Fortrex on my Triton TR186. I fish mainly Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas and the wind always blows in this part of the country. I've never had an issue where the 80# wasn't enough to last all day in the wind. Probably can't go wrong with either, but I do like my Fortrex. SE Kansas grass grower
  17. When I had a locked garage, I kept them on at all times, except when traveling long distances when I had to make stops for fuel, food, etc. SE Kansas grass grower
  18. South bank wasn't really too bad. Hills and trees blocked the wind pretty well. Besides, I had new Garmin toys to play with! SE Kansas grass grower
  19. Went to Cedar Creek till about 11:00 yesterday. Caught 8, mostly on spinner bait. Largest 18". All on south side of lake. Went to a north bank for about two casts and decided that was enough. By the time I got the boat loaded there were actually rollers on that little lake. SE Kansas grass grower
  20. Except that you only need one with two transducers. I'm supposed to be getting a new Panoptix to test in the near future. Can't wait!!! SE Kansas grass grower
  21. Trap, spook, swim senko. Water is still in the upper 60's around here. SE Kansas grass grower
  22. I would look into Garmin Panoptix. SE Kansas grass grower
  23. So, ksfishinguy and hannzo how did your weekend go. I talked to several of the yak brigade Saturday. I had a pretty good morning with 16. A couple keepers and several 16+". Went to Critzer Sunday and it kicked my behind. Only one 15" fish. SE Kansas grass grower
  24. Been a little tough at Cedar Creek. Didn't go out there this weekend. Did go to Bone Creek Monday morning. Caught 13. Two of them right at 19", and 4 more over 16". Most were on a square bill and a couple on a pop-r. The first cove by the dam has a road down to it where you can launch your buster boat. Look on google maps. The west ramp is right between two coves that you can fish with your boat as well. If I were going to Cedar tomorrow (or Bone Creek for that matter) I would have a square bill, a deep diving crank, a pop-r if there's a breeze a spook if calm, and a swim senko tied on. Cedar Creek fish like to hold out in the cedars in 12 to 30' of water. You have to flip or pitch in the middle of the trees with something that has a slim profile with braid. Hence the swim senko. A regular plastic worm would work just as well I presume. The color I like is a dark blue/purple/black with blue and black fleck that I pour myself and dip the tail in chartruse spike-it. Check with me at the golf course in town if you need any other info. I'm there till 2:30 during the week and early mornings on weekends. SE Kansas grass grower
  25. I'll see if I can find it. Haven't had it out in a loooonnngg time. SE Kansas grass grower
