  1. That will be great unless you fish the wooded lakes I fish. If an abundance of trees is not an issue then it will be fine. SE Kansas grass grower
  2. I would put it where the Lowrance is. I've gott a 1042xsv mounted there with the Big Ram mount. SE Kansas grass grower
  3. With the 73sv you have maps, you also have the ability to map your own with QuickDraw. You can save screenshots on an SD card (Striker has no card slot) and can upgrade maps to LakeVu HD Ultra, is Panoptix compatible, and can transfer waypoints from non Garmin unit. SE Kansas grass grower
  4. It does have GPS, waypoint marking, and trails. But if you need maps, you'd be out of luck. SE Kansas grass grower
  5. I guess it would depend on where the bottom of your motor is in relation to the transom. I leave mine trimmed all the way down and have no issues. SE Kansas grass grower
  6. No fish in Bone Creek or Cedar Creek. Gravel roads last 3 miles on both. Need to stay up north where all the good fishing is. Gas is higher down here. No place to eat at either lake. Long drive to convenience stores. Never any poop paper in restrooms. Wind always blows down here. Uh, anything else I can help you with? SE Kansas grass grower
  7. The main difference between the 73sv and the 7sv is that there are no maps on the 7sv. There is gps, so you can mark way points, tracks, etc. But there is no maps or a card slot for any mapping. SE Kansas grass grower
  8. I've had the 73DV for a couple years now and love it. I've recently added the 1042XSV which has SideVu. These units are so easy to use. The quick release on the 73 is great if you don't travel with your electronics hooked up or if your boat is stored in an unsecured place. Takes about 2 seconds to hook up or take down. The prices everyone has on the 73SV units now make them pretty hard to turn down. You won't be disappointed. SE Kansas grass grower
  9. Was going to go to Wolf Creek yesterday but I was afraid of what Fry said. Didn't want to drive an hour and a half and get blown off. Went to Bone Creek for a few hours. 37* water. Worked pretty hard. Nothing. SE Kansas grass grower
  10. If you possibly can, get a guide the first day. It will make the rest of your trip better, I promise! SE Kansas grass grower
  11. Garmin adds 21 anglers to its 2017 Marine Pro Team http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_123/garmin-proteam-11017.html
  12. Why will it be a few months? I live in Kansas and am going fishing in about an hour or so. SE Kansas grass grower
  13. I would be sure to put one of the transducers on the trolling motor. Your ClearVu (down) will work great and the SideVu will be OK. With Sidevu it does work better moving. High speed on trolling motor should give excellent quality. Slower or while turning will distort the view. I like to use ClearVu and standard sonar on a split screen under the trolling motor. It really tells you what's down there. Great units that are so easy to use and the quick connect/disconnect is great for traveling or if you have to leave your boat in an unsecured place. SE Kansas grass grower
  14. That would work. I forget you can turn a yak on a dime, in a second. SE Kansas grass grower
  15. I've been using Panoptix (PS21) for a little over a year now. It is awesome!!! Especially for schooling bass, finding balls of baitfish, and locating brush piles, underwater timber, etc. On a kayak however, I think it might be somewhat awkward to mount it on some kind of shaft that can be rotated easily. Unless you have a trolling motor on your yak. I'm not sure it would be that great if it was mounted on a fixed location. SE Kansas grass grower
  16. Trout lake can be good. The one across the road to the north is pretty good, and the one across the road to the west of that one can be as well. Be sure to get a trout stamp if fishing the trout pit. You might think about going over to Big Hill for a day as well. Good Largemouth and smallies as well. Good luck! SE Kansas grass grower
  17. Garmin Striker 5cv. $299. ClearVu, standard sonar, gps. Easy to use. SE Kansas grass grower
  18. Garmin Striker 5cv is a heck of a unit for $299. SE Kansas grass grower
  19. Garmin 73sv is $849. Great unit, easy to use and the quick connect/disconnect feature is awesome if you remove your electronics when traveling or storing. SE Kansas grass grower
  20. For what you are wanting, the Striker 7dv would be perfect. I've had the 73dv for a year now and love it. You will still be able to mark way points, just won't have maps. Great unit for the price. SE Kansas grass grower
  21. Lake Fork Marina has a list of guides on their website. SE Kansas grass grower
  22. Garmin Virb here. SE Kansas grass grower
  23. Mound City Lake, Critzer, LaCygne, Cedar Creek, Lone Star, Perry, Douglass County, Leavenworth to name a few. These all have bass, catfish, and bream. SE Kansas grass grower
  24. texasfishingforum.com Lake Fork Marina reports are usually good as well. It's also the best place on the lake to stay IMHO. If you've never been before, It can be intimidating. Even if you've been a bunch, it can be. In August I would just pick out a creek or two and fish the deeper parts of the creeks. Try to find inside and outside turns in the creeks. Mustang, Little Mustang, and Williams are all close together and fairly easy to figure where the creek channels are. There are also three main lake points right there where you can figure out how deep the fish are. You'll still be able to catch shallow fish in the early mornings and evenings (night). Good luck!! SE Kansas grass grower
  25. 1 and 2 are features on Garmin. And the self mapping is real time. SE Kansas grass grower
