Garmin panoptix
I've had the ps21 since the beginning and really like it. I've thought about a ps22 but really don't need the down shot nearly as much as the forward, so haven't pulled the trigger on that. I like it for looking in front of me when going down a row of docks. Especially if I don't know which docks have brush piles out in front or under them. Don't have to drive over them or find them with sidevu and then come back. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin EchoMap 73sv vs. 74sv
The 51 and 52 are both 12 pin transducers. I have changed mine back forth between units. You should be able to use the LakeVu HD card in a 94 or a 74. I thought on BPS sale the 74 had the LakeVu card as a bonus in that sale. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin EchoMap 73sv vs. 74sv
Right now I've got the 51 on the trolling motor. It's a MinnKota Fortrex. Some trolling motors don't have room for the bigger one without modifying the skeg on the motor. Yes, they are both 12 pin transducers. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin EchoMap 73sv vs. 74sv
It'll work fine. I've got a 52 and a 51 tranducers and interchange them with a couple units. I can hardly tell the difference between the two. Sometimes I can't tell any difference. SE Kansas grass grower

Power Usage
I run four Garmin units plus Panoptix, along with the live well on a series 27 battery. If I'm out for more than about 6 hours and leave all the units running all the time, I've had starter issues. If I turn the two console units off when I'm at the bow, I've had no problems. I would definitely move up to a series 27 and be sure to maintain it. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin echoMAP 94sv
I honestly can't tell much difference. They are both CHIRP but I do think the 52 separates fish a little better. Not enough to make me put on a different transducer though. I bass fish almost exclusively. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin echoMAP 94sv
I've got a 52 and a 51 transducers that I use every time out on the water. I've changed them back and forth between units without any issues. You do have to go into the menu and change to whichever transducer you are using. SE Kansas grass grower

Transducer mounting
I would put it where the existing one is knowing you won't get any readings on plane. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin vs. Hummingbird
Absolutely go 7" whichever way you go. I've been running the Striker 5cv plus for awhile now and the picture is really clear. Gotta believe the 7 would be the same. Easy to navigate menus but as was said, has no mapping. You can do trails and mark waypoints but no contour lines. Except the contours you make with QuickDraw, which is on those units. Cool screenshot
Cool, but why does your cursor show you in 6' or less water and your depth says 27.9'? Not bashing, just curious. SE Kansas grass grower

Sonar Placement.
I have SideVu on the bow and the console. I do use it on the bow some but not near as much as I use it on the console. If I didn't have Panoptix I might use it more on the bow, but that is definately not oranges to oranges. If I had to go with one, I would put the SideVu on the console. JMHO SE Kansas grass grower

Lake Fork in February
Fork can be really tough at times. Depending on the weather, they should be in prespawn mode. Tons of spawning flats on Fork. North banks warm the quickest. Find grass!!! If possible, hire a guide the first day you are there. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin acquires Navionics
I think this is a win, win, win deal. I've had a bunch of people tell me they would buy Garmin but with no Navionics they didn't. Humminbird and Lowrance will still be able to get Navionics, but now I'm going to have to get another unit so I can look at both maps at the same time. SE Kansas grass grower

anybody have lake fork tips?
If only going for one day, I would crappie fish the bridge pilings. A lot of huge bass have been caught doing this. By getting a bigger boat, I would assume a pontoon. A pontoon on that lake would be a major PITA for a first timer especially. Staying in the boat lanes and under bridges would work with a toon, but going into the timber could be a lot of wasted time trying to maneuver. Good luck! SE Kansas grass grower

Multiple units???
I don't tournament fish much. I have two 7" units on the front deck. One of them is primarily for Panoptix. And I have a 10" and a 5" on the console. About the only one I could do without is the 5" on the console. But I use it for mapping lakes that aren't mapped by any other source. SE Kansas grass grower
