Keeping Electronics Connections Dry
Why do you take the cradle off too? Just snap the unit off the cradle and put the rubber cap on the cradle connector. Retired grass grower

Panoptix PS22-TR Installation
I would move it down a few inches. The way you have it now, if there are any waves at all, it will come out of the water and lose signal. Retired Grass Grower

You can, but on a 7" screen you're not going to be able to see much. Seven inch is really small for Livescope by itself. Retired Grass Grower

Garmin / Panoptix Question
You can get by with a echomap 93 but the Ultra 106sv would be much better. I run mine on the 8610XSV. Besides the main unit you will need to purchase the Livescope system. Don't just get the LVS32, you need the black box as well. For another $100 you might as well get the Perspective mode mount as well. These all will make their own maps while you are fishing without having to have the screen dedicated for mapping. SE Kansas grass grower (retired)

Garmin Perspective
I would say the effective range is 50-70 feet. I have found that is mainly effective in 12' of water or less. Takes some tweaking of settings to get a good picture. I still use forward most of the time although I haven't had the opportunity to use it around docks, which I think will be really cool. SE Kansas grass grower (retired)

What electronics for beginners
I would look at the Garmin Echomap 93UHD for a little over a thousand dollars. Very nice unit and easy to navigate through the menus. Having little electronics experience you'll find Garmin to be the most user friendly. Go to BPS or somewhere that has multiple units from different manufacturers and play with them till you find something you like. SE Kansas grass grower (retired)

Ok received the flyer, now decision time
93sv is a great unit. If you ever might consider Livescope, then there's no question. SE Kansas grass grower

Do you prefer a better graph on the bow or console?
I spend 95% or more of my time at the bow when I'm fishing. When I'm at the console the mfd's are 2' or less from my eyes. When I'm at the bow the graphs are at least 4' from my eyes. For bass fishermen I always recommend putting the larger, better units at the bow. Walleye and other types of fishing might be different. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin 106SV Ultra (Garmin Advice)
No opinion given here. And I probably am somewhat biased but there is tons of information on all the new products out there. Whether it be the new trolling motors, new chartplotters, or transducers. All the websites read differently whether it's Garmin, Lowrance or Humminbird. The loads of information can be overwhelming. I know I have to look different things up just to make sure my assumptions are correct. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/636902 https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/591379/pn/010-01864-00# SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin 106SV Ultra (Garmin Advice)
I'm sorry for your misfortune but it is pretty clear on Garmin's website and has been discussed on many forums. You are not the only one that has done this. Or buying the Striker series and be disappointed that it didn't have maps. SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin 106SV Ultra (Garmin Advice)
In order to record LiveScope I'm pretty sure you have to go to the GPSmap series through Active Captain. I don't think you can do it with the Ultra series. SE Kansas grass grower

Navionics cards are still not compatible with Garmin units. They have integrated Navionics into Garmin mapping into the newer units. https://www8.garmin.com/marine/PDF/lakevug3ultra_relief_shading_lakes.pdf SE Kansas grass grower

Garmin 106SV Ultra (Garmin Advice)
I would get the biggest screen that is within your budget. Especially for Livescope. The UHD54 transducer is built into my Force trolling motor and it is amazing the quality even at super slow speed. I've got it paired with the 102SV Ultra. My Livescope on the trolling motor is on a 8610. SE Kansas grass grower

How do Minn Kota built in transducers work on the trolling motors if it's turning?
I never thought I'd use sidevu on the trolling motor. The last couple of years I've used it a bunch. With the GT54UHD ultra hi def transducer built into the Garmin Force, it is really amazing the images I do get. I now have one chartplotter exclusively on Livescope and the other one at the front on UHD sidevu most of the time. Yes the images get distorted when it's turning but I like using it. Life span of high-tech trolling motors
It will be interesting to see just how long they last. I do know when I installed the Garmin Force one of the first things I noticed was that it was built like a tank. From the locking latches to the pivot shafts, everything seems over built. I've had no wear issues in 5 months. But it has only been 5 months. I would hope, for the price of these new models, that they will last quite awhile. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. SE Kansas grass grower

Touch screen opinions
I love my Garmin touch screens. Didn't think I would because I've always had buttons. The only time it's any kind of issue is when I'm wearing gloves. I'm too cheap to buy the ones that work with touch screens. SE Kansas grass grower
