  1. I'd keep the flip phone and buy a depthfinder with GPS. SE Kansas grass grower
  2. lakes.garmin.com And with the ecoMAP series you can make your own maps of lakes that aren't Garmin mapped. SEKansas grass grower
  3. A really good unit. Just remember the Striker series does not have mapping. It has gps and you can mark way points but there are no maps. If you want mapping, you need to move up to the echoMAP series. And as far as complicated, Garmin units are really easy to navigate the menus. SE Kansas grass grower
  4. Ramps at Mustang, Little Mustang, Boardtree, Caney Point, and many other great fishing locations you can access with a jon. SE Kansas grass grower
  5. Antenna Internal or external over NMEA 2000 NMEA 2000® compatible NMEA 0183 compatible Yes, and I am assuming you are from Canada. 95sv has Canada maps SE Kansas grass grower
  6. When I use my Coleman Crawdad, I have two big, heavy, and cumbersome batteries I use. SE Kansas grass grower
  7. I would guess these are the older units before the new CHIRP units. Still a great deal on a great unit! SE Kansas grass grower
  8. Enjoy the summer up there. Both weeks!! SE Kansas grass grower
  9. If you keep it, you should put a shoot through transducer in the bilge area so you can read at high speeds. SE Kansas grass grower
  10. Have had sonar for a long time but only in the last 7 or 8 years have I been 'using' sonar. As Wayne said, the bodies of water got a whole lot bigger and at least quadrupled the amount of bass habitat. Can't imagine being without on a lake I didn't know well. SE Kansas grass grower
  11. The depth and which transducer you are using. SE Kansas grass grower
  12. my mistake. You are correct, sir. SE Kansas grass grower
  13. Garmin Striker 4. Color, chirp, DownVu, standard sonar, gps. $119.99
  14. If you are only having one unit, it would depend on the lakes you fish. If you fish larger lakes, I think I would have it on the console. But if you are fishing smaller lakes that you know well, then up front would probably be best. I too, look at my electronics constantly. Even more so since I've installed Panoptix with DownVu on the trolling motor. Pretty sure it would really suck to not have units on the console and the front deck. Gotta do what is best for you. 15. Check electrical connections (positive and ground) before anything else. They can corrode when left hooked up for a while even if they don't look like it. SE Kansas grass grower
  16. I use the Ram 111-U on my 73dv. Same size unit. SE Kansas grass grower
  17. Went out for about 2.5 hrs. Monday and never had a sniff. 39-42* water. Just spent some time with electronics. SE Kansas grass grower
  18. I have a 301 DV on my Coleman crawdad. It was on the front deck of my Triton and was way too small. It does however work well on the crawdad. Yes the DownVu does not show fish as well but it shows the bottom very well. Defining grass, bushes, trees, laydowns, etc. You can always switch back and forth between DownVu and standard sonar. SE Kansas grass grower
  19. 1. Ease of operation 2. Good mapping 3. Clear standard and downvu sonar SE Kansas grass grower
  20. I'd probably have to go with GPS if it was an either/or situation. Might want to check into the Garmin Striker 7DV for $399.99. CHIRP, traditional and DownVu sonar, and GPS for marking way points and trails. There are no maps, but GPS is built in. SE Kansas grass grower
  21. The new echoMAP Garmin series and up have QuickDraw (self mapping) as you fish. But if that doesn't interest you, definitely check which lakes are mapped that you fish. SE Kansas grass grower
  22. Garmin Striker is linkable but there are no card slots in the Striker series for mapping. In order to get mapping, you would have to move up to the echoMAP series. SE Kansas grass grower
  23. I have the 73dv with the PS21 panoptix transducer. The panoptix ducer is mounted about half way up the trolling motor shaft and the DownVu/traditional transducer is mounted on the head of the trolling motor. There are two separate plug ins in the back of the cradle mount for the 73dv. One for each transducer. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-water/transducers/panoptix-ps21-livevu-forward-transducer/prod530077.html This is a list of compatible units for the PS21 Panoptix. SE Kansas grass grower Just had a thought though. If you have an older unit, then it is not compatible with Panoptix. Mine is a 2016 model that should be coming out on the market at any time now. Sorry for the confusion.
  24. Oops, missed the part of wanting SideVu. SE Kansas grass grower
  25. The echoMAP CHIRP 73dv is $700 as well with networking capabilities. SE Kansas grass grower
