  1. Congrats! What a cool story!
  2. Any fishing associate at a bass pro can build you the Pro Qualifier/Carbonlite combo for 159.99. Paying 200.00 would be silly. you'll have money left over for nice line and maybe even a rod and reel cover! Really nice little setup.
  3. Daiwa Tatula from Ron at Valley Sports and whichever Shimano you can afford to fill the gap (probably a Sahara.)
  4. And don't you dare laugh at that offer. The boy is dead serious!
  5. I think before making such a statement in a post, you should throw the thing yourself and form your own opinion instead of basing it on YouTube videos.
  6. I'm with Mr. Kent on this one. In south La we can throw squarebills pretty much year around.
  7. Beads, swivels, and egg sinkers should run you about ten dollars total. Pretty much anyone could afford that. Look up "Carolina keepers" as well. That may be a decent cheap option.
  8. Are you actually fishing in the main river? What kind of structure are you targeting in that wide of a river? Current breaks?
  9. Hey... I know you! Neat to see a BCKFC guy around here.
  10. The question I was asking about no smallmouth down was just in jest. Just picking about that. I'm jealous! Smallmouth look like a fun species. We just have spotted bass in our moving rivers down here. Awesome fish man! Keep it up!
  11. What model truck do you have and what length rods fit up top? I have a long wheel base 4 door 4wd trd Tacoma and that makes me wonder if I could do something like that...
  12. Awesome fish man! Two questions: What camera and mount setup are you using for the selfies? More importantly, why can't there be any smallmouth in the Mississippi River in Louisiana?
  13. The 6'9 ML/XF carbonlite spinning rod feels like a noodle. One rod that is high on my list, though, is an abu Garcia volatile, 7'0 ML/XF. It's labeled as a saltwater rod but is one of the best ML rods in the price range.
  14. That's some good stuff right there. 196 oz? Should balance well on an NRX 7'7 Mag Heavy. It would have to be the 7'7, though. A bit too heavy to balance the 7'5. Balance is important! To get back on track though, I use a Lew's Tourney MG 7.1 That I bought from a guy here on BR for like sixty bucks. It has been an awesome reel and has stood up to a lot of abuse.
  15. Lots of "decent" advice here, but the ultimate frog reel, in my opinion, is often overlooked. http://m.basspro.com/Daiwa-Dendoh-Marine-Power-MP3000-PowerAssist-Reel/product/89331/ 88lbs of drag and enough line capacity to fire your frog from a rifle and still not spool it. You can never be too prepared when it comes to frog fishing. As a bonus, it's makes a great vertical punching reel. *drops mic*
  16. I suppose so. 26 is today's 40 it seems
  17. I believe his point was to simply call the company having the promotion and ask about the current status of the discount instead of asking random non-affiliated strangers on the Internet. It probably takes less time to call and ask than to post a question with an answer only the shop owner would know. I guess calling the company and asking is just an old school thing now, lol.
  18. I own a Mojo bass 6'8 M/XF and the BPS carbonlite 6'8 M/XF feels identical in taper and power. Visit your local BPS and ask them to build you a Shimano Sahara/Carbonlite spinning combo. It's not on the web or catalogs, but it's in their excel spreadsheet of combo SKU's. A 2500 or 3000 will suit you fine. Rigged together, the price lowers to 149.99. The setup balances amazingly well and has handled much bigger fish for me than bass. You'll have enough money left over to put 15/20lb braid of your choice, some Fluoro for leaders, and some senkos/stik-O's to boot! PM me if you want the combo SKU and I can look it up for you. It's really the best bang for the buck out there without going way up in cost, In my opinion.
  19. Awesome! Here is south La, we fish Frogs from April to December. It's a staple. By far my favorite technique. Keep throwing it until the water temps hit low 60's!
  20. I have been throwing the Pepper Custom Baits micro jig a LOT lately and am loving it more and more. The 1/4 oz size is a perfect size profile. Toss 3/4 of a baby rage craw on the back and BLAM! Awesome jig. I picked them up from Bass Pro. I bit the rage claw that is on it a little short (I prefer the claws to stick out a bit more) but it still worked just fine. You can see it in action at the very end of my latest video. I was bumping it over limbs of a laydown on a small river looking for spotted bass, which are roughly the average size and aggressive demeanor of river smallies.
  21. You are right. Judging the distance and even getting the proper arc to make casts like that are tougher sitting down than standing in a bass boat. He was throwing a KVD 1.0 in that clip... he had not even began reeling and it was hit like a topwater. It was really neat to see such a hail mary drag in a fish. Also, a stake out pole is the only thing short of a paddle that would make me turn around to get it if I left it at home. Then again, it never leaves my kayak for any reason, because I refuse to be without it! You'll be glad you spent the fifty bucks or so for a quality one. You could also make one from PVC... Take a 1 or 1.5 inch PVC pole, saw off the tip at a forty five degree angle for a point, then put a ninety degree "T" on the end. I would use a large wooden dowel or broom handle on the inside to reinforce it. Even then, it doesn't have the bend and shock absorption of the yak attack, but its about 1/4 the price.
  22. Hey man! How are you? That is a yak attack park n' pole, 6 footer. The leash is a "kayak tow rope" by yak gear. It has some good shock absorption with its stretch. It's doubled up as well to strengthen it up. The cast at 2:25 was my buddy Jordan. You really have to thread a needle with some of these casts, especially when you were in a spot like he was in... it was too deep to anchor in the middle so he had to anchor on the opposite bank and cast across. That exact same situation is what lead to me having to cast across the river at 0:18, the first fish of the video. Sometimes you just have to bomb those cranks and 3/16 oz spinnerbaits. But don't think for a SECOND that we didn't toss our fair share right into a brush pile by overthrowing anywhere from mere inches to a couple feet!
  23. You know, I actually purchased a 5 inch floating gen 2 from a guy once on another forum for fifteen bucks. I never threw it and turned around and sold it . I regret that a whole lot. I wouldn't mind trying another some day, for sure. The price is just tough to bear.
  24. I'll PM you my address and when I receive the bull shad from you ill gladly give it a try! But on a more serious note... I do have a spro BBZ 4 inch floating shad as well as a strike king wake shad around the tackle box somewhere. They should suffice? I would never throw anything subsurface there that didn't float, such as a squarebill. Far too many snags and too much current to fight to undo them.
