  4. yep people do eat gar. you can only eat the meat around the backbone. ive read all the other meat has some type of toxins or something in it. if you eat the rest of the fish it will kill you. you should be able to find something about it on the web somewhere. i wouldnt eat gar period. just thought id share.
  5. was about to post a link to this for everyone to see it as well. lol you beat me to it. thats a big gar!
  6. i fish them with a 1/4 oz weight texas rigged. fish it slow to start off with. if no luck speed it up a little. i catch everything at night fishing everything very slow. just try different speeds and see what works for you.
  7. very very nice stripper. glad you got a good fight with the fish. nothing like fighting a monster for 15 mins.
  8. X2 i use them all summer as well. one of my pb's is off a zoom 6" tomato lizard.
  9. try using a jig with a trailor. ive had luck fishing it at ***ht with darker colors, zoom finesse worm>>>>> i talked to a guy while he was fishing and caught a few with them. u can always use a dark spinnerbait as well.
  10. not sure if i like it. just dont know. guess its gonna take some time to get use to. ive always fished with a 6ft rod. nothing bigger. gotta watch where my wife is in the boat at all times. dont wanna take her head off.
  11. you can find some cheap boats on craiglist or ebay. look in local adds under forsale.
  12. agree with this post. alot of people treat those fish the same way here. tear up all your crankbaits.
  13. the wiring on one of the plugs its pretty much shot. its showing one of the metal pieces in the plug. so im just gonna replace everything. it was a lowrance but i dont know the model number at the moment. looks like it was a cheap fish finder. i wanna put something nice up front. the old one was mounted to the bottom of the trolling motor with a metal clamp. just gonna remount the new one there. how far ahead does a fish finder show you on the screen? just curious. im sure certain models come into play with this question.
  14. I would like to purchase the best worm binder out there today. one thats gonna hold your bait and stay closed. which brand is the best to go with?
  15. dont know much about bass fishing in FL but im sure bass are just ab the same everywhere. ive had alot more success in my few fishing trips at ***ht catching them in shallower waters around docks and brush piles. Havent caught one bass yet at ***ht in water deeper than 8 feet. so you would probably do very well fishing off the bank at ***ht for bass but like you said, to many snakes in FL. IMO not worth getting bit by a snake. you should buy a little 8-10 foot pond boat and get a trolling motor and use that at ***ht. it would be worth it. speaking of ***ht fishing. when i was on vacation at the 1st of the month. i talked to a guy who was fishing around my friends lake house we were staying at. he was in a tourney that started at 6pm and ended at 2 am. he caught 6 bass within 20 mins around the dock at my friends lake house and the one next door. he was using a zoom finesse worm. greenpumkin with orange flakes and had a chartreuse marker thats made for coloring bait. he would color the tail about a inch in length. just thought id share this with u!
  16. X2 anyone can catch a mudfish. lmao. catching bass takes alot more skill then mudfish.

  21. thats a good idea about counting the fall until it hits the bottom. ill half to try this next time i got fishing! thanks for the idea.
  22. not sure what dead sticking is. about to google it lol about to go watch this video now. if you play around with it in a swimming pool, there isnt logs and so on in the pool. i could still be going across logs on the bottom thinking its a fish and try to set the hook. i guess this is where the time factor comes into play. thanks for all the replys guys!
  23. thanks for the replys. i didnt know if there were differences in the one you have on your dash and up front. also let me ask this question. im guessing they make a component piece to mount to the bottom of the trolling motor instead of the transducer you mount to the back of the boat? also do you have it on the bottom of the trolling motor? if not where is a good place to put it in the front of the boat?
  24. i just googled the c rig and cant seem to find a pic of it. all the images that are coming up look like a texas rig not unless they are very similar in rigging. could you post a link or picture of how to rig it this way. may try it on other baits as well. also thanks for all the replys. helps me to continue to learn.
  25. 30-60lb line is for fishing tree, stumps, brush piles and etc. that way your line doesnt pop. just something alot of people use when you fish heavy cover. how much are you looking to spend on a new rod and reel? do you know how to throw a baitcaster or were you thinking about a spinning rod? yea ***htworms work for bass but its not a 1st choice bait i would use to catch them. you also have alot of other fish that will get to the ***htworms before the bass. your best bet on bass would be plastic worms and lizards with a 1/4oz weighted hook or bullet lead. you can also use spinnerbaits, crankbaits and jigs. by picking out what you want to fish with also remember to buy the color that matches the water tint. what color water are you fishing in? dark or light?
