Short Video Catching A Few Small Bass Yesterday. New Gopro Hero3
This was my very first try using the Gopro and I have since changed the aim of the camera. I didn't have an LCD backpac on the camera yet to be able to see exactly where it was pointed. With my mistake back, the fishing seat has to stay LOL. Aiming it higher where it captures more of me solves most of the problem however. Now if I can just figure out where the bass have moved. The last trip this week I got skunked for the first time this year This lake is actually loaded with giant bass and it is very rare to be able to catch all these small keeper bass. 14-18 in slot with only one kept over 18 inches. I was really wanting some small bass for the freezer and for a month and a half the little ones have been biting really good in the 2-6 foot depth next to 15-20 ft of water. Caught 30 this past Sat, only 2 Sun, and 0 Weds. Pretty much identical weather and water temps. 68 air 58 water

Local Bait Shops
Our city of about 100K use to have several small bait shops. Over the past ten years they have all disappeared. We are now stuck with Gander and Wallyworld which both suck when it comes to having anything you might actually need. At least Wallyworld sometimes carries crickets and nightcrawlers if you want to do some bream fishing. Minnows? Forget it! Nearest shop is 40 miles away The best part of havng small local bait shops for me was knowledgable folks ran these stores, did reel repairs, carried live baits, knew what was biting where, etc.

World Record Largemouth
I don't know about the world record, but the Tenn state record was shocked up In Browns Creek Lake in Natchez Trace park by TWRA this spring. It is still there somewhere!

Dagum Wind #$%
I hear ya on the wind. The wind started blowing here in West Tn around August 2011 and has never let up. I have never seen this living here for over 50 years. I have three boats so depending on conditions I can get at least one on the water and fight it. My Basshunter in my profile pic is limited to 10 mph or less unless I want waves crashing over the bow.

Need Advice, Sell Or Keep My Boat
For the price of a decent outboard and having it installed you should easily be able to find a good used bassboat set up and ready to go.

Learning How To Cast With The Opposite Arm
I lost half of my left elbow joint after a fall off of a ladder 20 years ago. (I am left handed) I have been pretty abidextrous my entire life except for throwing and writing. Never could get the ability to cast right handed. Today I am able to cast with my left arm again but mainly have to stick with soft plastics due to the fact my arm cant handle throwing crankbaits of spinners all day.

Tennessee Bound
That is very true. Anything over 10 mph and I have water coming over the bow when headed into oncoming waves. Have only used it three times so far. Got lucky and had a calm day when I took it to Reelfoot Lake in my toyhauler camper. Wind has blown steadily here since Aug 2011 at 15-25 nearly everyday. Never seen that before here in Tn over my last 50 years!

Kentucky Lake
If you're needing nice weather here Mid to late Sept would be the best bet. June-August can be and is miserable here most years. Fishing is hard to beat in the early fall on the Tn river. I fished yesterday and wore them out. 82 degrees in the first week of Nov.

Which Trolling Motor? 5 To Choose From.
I have an 16ft Alumicraft Angler that the previous owner put a 24 volt Johnson trolling motor on off of a 19ft Stratos. Not sure of the lb thrust. He wired it so that it only works on 24 volt and even on the lowest setting it is way to fast. Make sure if you go 24 volt you have the 12-24 option. Most of the time more is better but if you need to fish slow it is nice to be able to.

Driving A Bass Boat In Rough Water
Just put the hammer down and see how high she can fly, and then after how deep she can submarine when you stuff it on the next wave!

1995 Spectrum. Opinions????
To the best of my knowledge they are good boats. Most were sold with Force engines however and they are not the best by any means. If powered by anything else you should be good to go.

What Happens To Soft Plastic Eaten
I got to wondering about this a few weeks ago after having a small bass take a 6in Zoom worm. Caught him about 20 minutes later on a crankbait and the worm was still in his mouth!!!

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
Don't know about that particular outboard but many years ago bought a Sears 3.5 made similar to that one for a 12ft jon I had. Worked fine and was extremly lightweight. The biggest drawback was it was very loud being air cooled. They were made by Eska and came in several different power levels. I was looking at some on Ebay recently and saw several Chineese motors like the above. Tempted to try one on my Basshunter for the price. I need a 2 hp and Honda is currently the only major brand making one. Too much $$$ for no more than I would use it. The ones one Ebay are shipped free and much lower price. I know nothing about them however so as the saying goes, buyer beware.

Older Bigger Or Newer Smaller?
20 foot boat with at least 200 hp. My vote goes to Stratos or Triton. This size boat makes it where you can fish small skinny water or very large waters without any issues. I could take my 201 pro Stratos into just about any water I could get my 14 ft flatbottom into but couldn't or wouldn't take that flatbottom out on many of the large wind blown lakes that Stratos handled with ease. Fuel bill was a whole other issue however

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
Did not know that trolling motor existed. Mighty tempted to get one as it would save me a lot of headaches in my soon to happen mods. After reading the reviews the one thing bad that stands out for my use on a jon boat is that it doesn't slide all the way up out of the way for stowage. I would have to remove it when trailering. Would be perfect on my Bass Hunter though since I remove everything anyhow!! May have to spend more money I don't have now, Thanks a lot

I Need A Boat..
I wood highly recommend something along the lines of a Kayak or Canoe. Most states don't require registration of non-powered craft. Yours may vary so check the regs. Maintenance free, and very little in required gear. Craigslist always has a lot of kayaks and canoes at good dirt cheap prices.

What's Your Comfy Non-Inflatable Jacket?
The BPS jackets that they have on sale for 19.95 most of the time are quite cool and comfortable. I bought 2 last year and have been quite pleased. For the money it's hard to go wrong and I am comfident they will do their job if needed. . Mine are the mesh jacket and just checked, they are currently $35. Not the same as the ones they have listed now for $19.95 dual fit. My recommendation now is if you can to wait until the holidays as BPS and Cabellas will always have super good specials on these items then.

Portable Fish Finders?
It shows structure fair. Enough to let you know it's there and what type of bottom you are over. I haven't played with my sensitivity settings and just let it run on auto since I usually just want to know depth and water temp anyway. I have been blown away however by the baitfish and fish ID displays. If you can spring it I would save up and get the color unit as it has more power and features. I bought mine as a temporary use for my flatbottom until I get around to my modifications and mounting my DSI-Gps unit. It will now be used exclusively on my 8 ft Baby basshunter.
-
Portable Fish Finders?
As long as you go slow!!!! As you start going faster it will start vibrating in the mount and you know you need to slow down. In my 15ft flatbottom I can troll with my 40lb minn kota up to about speed 4. The #5 setting is way to fast. Again you have to be able to watch for underwater obstackles or else you will break it off the boat potentially. 1-2 mph is probably the max speed you can use this unit as far as trolling goes.
-
Portable Fish Finders?
No the mounts are very secure. The mount is incredbly solid as far as the clamp goes. They are somewhat fragile however as far as the part the finder sits in. Not a problem as long as you are cautious around objects and pull it up before running the outboard or the trolling motor on highest speed.

Portable Fish Finders?
The 110 like I have is only about $100 at Wallyworld and very well worth the money. It is leaps and bounds better than the Hummingbird units I had on boats in the late 80's and early 90's that cost several hundred dollars back then. I do see them pop up on Craigslist on occasion for $50 or so.
