  1. I have the Hummingbird 110 and it works great. Does a very good job of marking structure, fish and schools of bait along with depth and temp. This is just the base model so i am sure the higher end units are even better. I've had mine for a year and a half and still using the original batteries I put in it and it has been used a fair amount. The only precaution is to be careful not to hit submerged objects and break the mount. Seems to be the only complaint I have ever read on these units.
  2. Spinnerbaits use to be my go to bait of choice. Learned to always use a trailer hook and probably 50% plus of my catches would be on it. Due to a bad arm I mainly use soft plastics now since my arm can't take the constant strain of casting and retrieveing heavier baits.
  3. All year long here in West Tn. Sauger starting about Nov thru early spring. 72 degrees here this past New Years eve!!! Bass all year with whatever else I can get to bite. 30 degrees and below I stay home knowing a warmer day won't be to far around the corner.
  4. 20 year bad back sufferer here. Herniated L4-L5 with 5 bulging disc currently. I looked at yaks and ultimately went with the boat in my profile due to the fact I can easily install whatever seat I need. I have purchased highback Tempress seats (not pictured) and must say they give great support and are by far the most comfortable boat seats I have ever used. My little boat has wheels made into the rear to easily roll it to where ever without the need to lift the entire boat at one time.
  5. Just a little glamour shot of my little boat on Reelfoot lake this past weekend. Thank God the winds were calm for once!!!!
  6. I just bought 2 Elite 4 dsi gps units from Cabelas and they did include a Trolling motor mount even though it didn't show in the description.
  7. Get him down to $4000 or less on the price and use the savings to upgrade trolling motors. Very good boat and that motor will work fine as long as you aren't in a strong current or wind.
  8. So glad I didn't buy that new Tracker TXW I was looking at!!!!! Dry storage should be just that. I have owned many many boats and never had storage compartments get wet like that even after fishing tournaments all day in pouring blowing rain where the auto bilge would run nearly nonstop.
  9. In my part of Tenn everything seems about normal for this time of year. Some smaller ponds are low but that isn't unusual for this time of year. The heat is the main factor keeping me off the water right now. Much cooler weekend coming up so the fish better hide!
  10. Sounds like I made a decent choice. Thanks for the replies. The newest depth finder I have used was made around 1995 LOL so I will have a new learning curve with these for sure!!!!! If I ever get good with these units I would love to get a side scanning unit later because it would work great in the waters I normally fish.
  11. I just ordered two to update the electronics on my latest boat purchase. If you use one tell me your likes or dislikes. This boat currently only has a Hummingbird flasher in the dash that doesn.t work correctly and a very early Eagle Cuda up front that does a decent job but wanted something better. I would love to spend 5 grand plus but the bank acct. wouldn't allow that I tried to stay with the smaller units even though my eyesight now sucks!! These big screens just look like they would get in the way constantly.
  12. That is actually a very nice sauger from the looks of it. We normally fish for them from about Nov to early spring below Pickwick dam.
  13. Definitely Sauger! Best eating fish in Tenn.
  14. My current rides have a 50hp 2 stroke and a 20hp 4 stroke. I can fish a long time on 6 gallons. The Stratos held 50 gallons and that would last maybe 3 hours of running and gunning during tourneys. So what nearly $200 at todays prices??? I ain't made of money!!!!!! Some days runnin was a lot more fun than fishin LOL
  15. My boat has a 50 that the oiling system has been disabled and now you just mix the gas and oil the old fashion way. I believe there is a alarm if the system quits on you. My 1993 200hp Johnson did for sure. My 50 (1998) has warning lights and a buzzer.
  16. These boats won't respond to a jack plate or tilt-trim like their big brother fiberglass boats do. Just use the T/T if you have it or if not set the trim pin in whatever position works best and forget about it. I believe that boat is rated for 60hp (?) so use the 40 and upgrade after it dies!!
  17. My 201 Stratos with a 200hp Johnson would run 78-80 on a good day with quite a bit of chine walking but other than that it was very very stable. Only when pushing it to the max did it get a little quirrely. Good smooth, dry, and solid ride otherwise. I miss that boat but not the fuel bill!!!!
  18. I have a 1990 MV16 Angler which is pretty much the same hull. I am really impressed with the ride and solid feel of this boat over many other Aluminum bass boats I've owned in the past including other Alumicrafts. I hope to keep my current one until I die! These boats will last forever if taken care of with maybe a repower at some point and a little upgrading as time goes by. Enjoy your new ride. My boat runs 34 mph top with a 50 hp Johnson and stainless prop so I imagine you should get high upper 20's with that 40.
  19. Javelin, Stratos, Hydro Sport hull is just a much faster design than Rangers. The designer was Earl Bentz that now owns Tritan Boats.
  20. That is a very good price!!! I looked for over the past year and that is by far the best price i have seen on a late model Pt 175. If the boat and motor are sound I would have to jump on it. Figure at least another thousand for cosmetic repairs however. Those seats are not cheap!! Makes me wonder why he has lowered the price that much from the original unless they are desperate for $$$$. Check the floors and transom because that boat has probably been left out in the weather with that kind of damage in that few years.
  21. Cabelas Recon Fish (free)
  22. Go with as many Amps as will fit in the compartment or tray as I stated earlier unless you enjoy trying to rope start the engine once the batteries are run down. More amps means longer time before that happens. Too small a battery will also cause an early death to your starter motor by making in run hot. With automotive engines you generally want twice or more of the engines Cubic inches in cold cranking amps. With boats you want enough CCA and as much reserve capacity as you can fit or afford!!
  23. Will work fine but by law you need to put a red flag on the boat overhang. I did it with a much smaller bed and had to put a lot of weight in the transom to keep the boat from flipping out LOL. I probably had 7 feet hanging out the back!!
  24. As long as it fits bigger is always better. Look at Walmarts group 29 and see if it will go in there. Roughly $80 last time I bought one. Currently have three. (one in travel trailer and 2 in boats) Long lasting charge and recharge fairly quick compared to others I have had. My oldest is 3 years old and going like new so far!!!
  25. No these are Tempress seats that I ordered. These are the most comfortable boat seats I have ever sat in!!! I just ordered 2 more matching for the pedistals. Not cheap but well worth the money especially with my back. Wish I could afford to buy them for my other boats that I have put the usual Wallyworld seats in. Basspro had these seats at $140 each but I found another site that had them for $98 ea.
